Chapter 16 - Repeated Loss

"How many times does that thing need to happen before you have enough, LUEL?!"

"Ugh... I'm sorry, Rammie..."

"Mom is mad!.."

"Mom is angry!..."

Right now, Luel is kneeling on the floor and being scolded by his older cousin while the twin girls, Luel's nieces, are running around the living room acting and playing scared of their mother.

It's already been two weeks since the first Boss Raid against the Rank A Ragnarok Beast Cerberus. Within those two weeks, another seven more Raids were done against the Rank A Ragnarok Beast, in which Cerberus came out victorious. That's to be expected. After all, the Boss Raid only goal is to study Cerberus, not to defeat the Rank A Ragnarok Beast.

At the end of those repeated losses against Cerberus, Luel would always wake up having anxiety and panic attacks. That's why Rammie is scolding Luel for his repeated anxiety and panic attacks that would happen every other night.

"Mom is scary!..."

"Run away, Fluffy Hair Uncle!..."

"Quiet, both of you!"

Rammie scolded her daughters, making them stop running around the living room and kneel right beside Luel.

...Sniff!...Sob!...

As Ram and Mie began to cry after getting scolded by their mother, Rammie continued scolding Luel.

"Are you planning to kill yourself, Luel?... Is that why you came back here and decided to live alone?"

Of course, that wasn't Luel's intention, and Rammie knows it. It just that Rammie can't comprehend why Luel is making himself suffer continuously. That's why she said those words.

"If that game is causing you to have anxiety and panic attacks, then stop playing it already!"

Rammie has a point, and Luel indeed considers doing what Rammie said. In fact, Luel wanted to quit his agreement with SilverPup about being used as the bait at the Boss Raid against Cerberus. However, Luel's personality gave him a hard time deciding to quit.

At his past jobs two years ago, Luel tried to meet everyone's expectations. He tries to give what his clients want, provide what his employees need, and support his co-workers to the point that Luel is already doing the work that his co-workers are supposed to do.

Luel is a good person or rather a pushover one. He tries his best to help those around him, only to be taken advantage of by others. In the end, Luel got overwhelmed by everyone's disappointment as he failed to meet their expectations. He runs away, driving his car, only to meet an accident on the road that turns his life upside down.

Luel wants to quit fighting Cerberus after experiencing how it feels to die by being digested within Cerberus's belly, but his pushover personality, wanting not to disappoint SilverPup and the Orion Guild's players and meet their expectations, makes Luel unable to quit.

Luel endured the pain of his anxiety and panic attacks at the expanse of 8 Raids against Cerberus until the 9th Raid when Cerberus didn't arrive to hunt him, making the Boss Raid against Cerberus officially end.

"If this happens again, I'm calling Aunt and Uncle. I'm even telling your brothers!"

"Wait... Please stop, Rammie... I don't want to bother them, especially Mom and Dad."

"And you're fine bothering me?"

"... ... ..."

Rammie's last remark made Luel unable to answer. He just stays silent, looking down on the floor, depressed at the thought that he's causing unnecessary trouble to his cousin.

At the end of the scolding, right after eating breakfast at Luel's house, Rammie and her twin girls say goodbye...

"Bye-bye..."

"Bye Fluffy Hair Uncle..."

"Listen to what I said and don't make yourself suffer anymore, Luel."

"I know. Thanks, Rammie..."

...leaving Luel alone once again.

The repeated loss against the Rank A Ragnarok Beast Cerberus is what Luel can describe as repeating torture. However, if there's one silver lining to all of his suffering, it is that Luel and SilverPup, along with the Orion Guild's players, manage to learn and confirm a lot of things about Cerberus.

Aside from the known fact that Cerberus has three Attributes, Lightning, Flame, and Ice, the suspicion that Cerberus also has a Dark Attribute has been officially confirmed during the Boss Raid.

Another thing that was confirmed about the Rank A Ragnarok Beast Cerberus is its resistance and weakness.

Considering its Lightning and Flame Attribute, it's obvious that Cerberus will have resistance to attacks from Devour Classes of Lighting Beast Saber that have the same Lightning Attribute and Nine-tailed Beast Fiamma that has Flame Attribute as well. During the Boss Raid, the Orion Guild calculated that Cerberus has around 75 percent resistance against attacks from Saber and Fiamma Devour Classes.

On the other hand, Cerberus Ice Attribute gives it 50 percent resistance against attacks from the Devour Class of Azure Beast Asherah and 25 percent resistance against attacks from the Devour Class of White Beast Alpha.

The remaining two Devour Classes of Vermilion Beast Aurora and Moonlight Beast Orion are the only ones that Cerberus doesn't have resistance, which also seems to be the Rank A Ragnarok Beast weakness as SilverPup's Devour Skill, Orion's Fangs, were able to cause some damage to Cerberus.

Another thing that was confirmed when it comes to fighting not only Cerberus but other high-ranking Ragnarok Beasts is the fact that they are capable of healing their wounds and injuries by absorbing the Link Force of the players they hunted and killed as Cerberus heals its injuries that SilverPup caused by absorbing the Link Force of the players it has killed.

This information confirms that the strategy of fighting high-ranking Ragnarok Beasts with multiple unskilled players is only a disadvantage when it comes to the Boss Raid event.

When it comes to Cerberus's fighting style or pattern of attacks, the Orion Guild failed to learn anything new from what they already knew about Cerberus. After all, none of the players who have gathered for the Boss Raid against Cerberus are strong enough to push the Rank A Ragnarok Beast to its limit and make it use any of its hidden abilities.

However, the information they have gathered gives some hope that Luel and the Orion Guild, which is made up mostly of players from the Devour Orion Class, have a chance of defeating and devouring the Rank A Ragnarok Beast Cerberus someday.
