Chapter 130: Huang Xueyang Comes to Visit
As soon as Yun Zijin and Qin Sitong stepped out of the dorm, Ling Er was already waiting for them. Qin Sitong glanced at Zijin, who didn't seem surprised at all. She had grown used to one bodyguard at a time following her. Although she didn't want to stand out, she wouldn't dismiss the bodyguards entirely—they were there to protect her, after all.
Since Qin Sitong owned a bicycle on campus, Zijin got on the back seat, and they rode together to Cafeteria No. 1. Yet, upon arrival, they found Ling Er had somehow reached the cafeteria ahead of them. Qin Sitong was stunned.
"He…how could he beat us here?" she asked, voice hushed.
Zijin shook her head. "Don't ask me. I have no idea. They're just that fast."
Qin Sitong shrugged. "Well, alright." Then, her face brightened upon seeing xiaolongbao in the cafeteria window. The dumplings here were famously delicious and often sold out quickly. "Yes! Xiaolongbao!" she cheered, promptly buying a basket for herself. Zijin bought one as well—and one for Ling Er.
Ever since Ling Yi mentioned that buying breakfast for the bodyguards was okay, none of them hesitated to accept the gesture, viewing it as a small reward for their 24-hour service.
Because neither Zijin nor Qin Sitong had classes that morning, they ate leisurely. Other students were rushing to early lectures, so the two stood out by their relaxed pace.
At about eight o'clock, the system's usual voice rang in Zijin's mind:
[Consumption Task: Spend 5,000,000.00 yuan before midnight tonight. Task Reward: To be unlocked.]
Five million? That was the highest daily spending total so far. Luckily, there were no conditions attached—if she couldn't spend it by day's end, she could just have Meilin transfer the amount to the charity foundation. That would satisfy the system.
Suddenly, a scathing voice cut into her thoughts.
"Yun Zijin!"
Zijin had just finished her last xiaolongbao. She turned—and saw Huang Xueyang, face bruised and battered, rushing over, only to be stopped in his tracks by Ling Er.
Zijin eyed him calmly. He looked worse for wear, but still had that hostile glare. "Huang," she said, "what do you want from me?"
Ling Er remained there, restricting his movement, until Zijin decided otherwise. By now, curious onlookers were glancing their way.
"You—did you do this? Did you tell those girls something?!" Huang demanded, apparently referencing his black-and-blue face. He'd assumed he could handle any fallout from being exposed, but the three furious girls he'd conned refused to listen to his excuses—and apparently had friends who pinned him in a sack and beat him. He had no solid proof, so he couldn't sue them for assault.
"I told them the truth," Zijin replied, "but what they chose to do is none of my business. Rather than confronting me here, you might focus on how the school's going to handle you." Word of Huang's con artistry had spread across campus; the administration was surely aware by now. "If the school does nothing, its credibility suffers."
"You—" The mention of school authorities rattled Huang. As scorned as he was, the last thing he needed was a disciplinary record to derail graduation. Realizing time was of the essence, he blurted, "Tell him to let me go!" He glowered at Ling Er, who was still holding him by the arm.
Zijin nodded. "Let him go."
Ling Er released his grip, allowing Huang to scuttle away. He cast one last resentful stare at Zijin, but seeing Ling Er standing protectively, he dared not lash out. Moments later, he fled.
Qin Sitong exhaled in relief. "Is that okay? You think he'll cause trouble for you now?"
Zijin shook her head. "He doesn't have that power. All he does is cheat girls out of money. He'll be too busy saving himself, if the school chooses to act."
"Guess so." Qin Sitong grimaced at Huang's scummy behavior. She was disgusted by how he exploited his decent looks to scam multiple women.
Finished with breakfast, they decided against returning to the dorm. With no classes, they chose to visit the library and gather references for their upcoming senior thesis. They were halfway there when Zijin's phone rang. A glance at the caller ID told her it was Lu Yunque.
She blinked, puzzled. They'd parted ways after the orphanage expansion matter—what could he want now? Nonetheless, she tapped the answer button. "Hello, Lu…um, Lu Yunque?" She nearly called him "Mr. Lu," but remembered they'd agreed to a less formal address.
His tone sounded friendly. "Morning, Ms. Yun. Have you eaten yet?"
Zijin felt a flicker of embarrassment, as though they were old friends. "I have, just now. I'm on the way to the library…why call me? Need something?" she asked, direct as usual.
"I happened to come to Dijing University on some business and thought to invite you for lunch—if you're free. If not, we can pick another day."
"You're at Dijing University for business? Doesn't the Lu Corporation mainly do hotels and large malls?"
He chuckled. "I told you, I studied undergrad at Dijing University, so I'm an alumnus, a senior, if you will."
"That's news to me. But what does being an alumnus have to do with coming today?"
