Chapter 90: The Spirit Transformation Technique

Moonlit Island.

Central Peak.

Inside the training chamber, Baishi sat cross-legged, his breathing slow and steady, as if he were in a deep sleep.

However, anyone observing with a Byakugan would immediately notice the chakra coursing through his body at high speed.

He wasn't sleeping—he was practicing the Spirit Transformation Technique.

It had been over a month since Baishi began studying this powerful S-Rank jutsu. Each night, he devoted one to two hours to mastering it.

Progress was slow. The Spirit Transformation Technique, renowned for its complexity, was challenging even for someone with Baishi's enhanced abilities.

Still, tonight felt different. Baishi could sense he was on the brink of a breakthrough.

---

As time passed, the training chamber remained eerily silent.

Gradually, Baishi's heartbeat slowed, and his breathing became shallower. His life force seemed to dwindle, akin to a candle flickering out.

Then—

Rip!

An ethereal tearing sound echoed, and Baishi felt an indescribable weightlessness as his consciousness floated upward.

He opened his eyes and looked down. Below him sat his physical body, still cross-legged and motionless.

Looking at his translucent form, Baishi realized:

"I've done it!"

Excitement surged through him. But almost as quickly as it came, the emotion faded, replaced by a peculiar calm.

"Hm... this isn't right."

Baishi's excitement had been unnaturally brief, his emotional highs and lows dampened.

It didn't take him long to figure out why. "Without my physical body influencing my mind, my emotions are barely moving. Is this the absence of hormones?"

The realization left Baishi uneasy. He imagined the long-term effects of existing in this form—eventually, he might become a cold, emotionless shell.

Shaking off the thought, he reassured himself. "I'm overthinking this. I can control when I use this technique. There's no need to worry."

With that concern addressed, Baishi began testing the Spirit Transformation Technique.

---

The technique was every bit as extraordinary as its reputation suggested.

First, its sensory enhancement was unparalleled. Baishi could now perceive every living soul within a hundred kilometers. Ninja, in particular, stood out as distinct blips of chakra.

Moreover, if Baishi had prior knowledge of someone's chakra signature, the distance he could sense them increased significantly—potentially spanning hundreds of kilometers.

At that moment, he could pinpoint individuals like Orochimaru, Danzo, and Kisame with ease.

This sensory precision surpassed other renowned techniques like the Third Hokage's Telescope Jutsu or the Uzumaki clan's Kagura Mind's Eye.

Beyond sensory capabilities, the Spirit Transformation Technique's most striking feature was its incredible speed. While it felt like teleportation, Baishi deduced that it was actually the result of his spirit's rapid flight.

Still, the technique wasn't without limitations. Maintaining his spiritual form consumed a significant amount of chakra, and the farther he traveled from his body, the higher the energy expenditure.

There was also a risk of overextending and running out of chakra while too far from his body. In such a scenario, his spirit would be left vulnerable, unable to defend itself.

Even with sufficient chakra, invading another's mind could backfire if the target's mental defenses were stronger than his.

Given these drawbacks, Baishi decided the technique was best reserved for reconnaissance or carefully planned attacks, not reckless long-range assassination attempts.

---

Testing complete, Baishi drifted through the training chamber window, looking down at a forested area of the island.

He smirked. "You'll do."

Several days earlier, Baishi had noticed unfamiliar shinobi lurking on the island. He had chosen not to confront them immediately, opting instead to use them as live targets for his experiments.

This wasn't the first time. Over the past month, Baishi had eliminated three separate assassination squads sent by Kirigakure.

Thanks to his mind-reading abilities, Baishi knew these ninja were dispatched to kill him.

But the constant cycle of attacks was growing tedious. Rather than waste time eliminating yet another group, he intended to use them to refine his newfound skill.

---

Moonlit Island.

Forest Area.

Four Kirigakure Anbu gathered in the shadows, reviewing the information they had collected that day.

Suddenly, a streak of white light zipped through the trees and struck one of them.

"What was that?" one of the Anbu demanded, drawing his short sword and leaping backward.

The others followed suit, spreading out defensively.

The figure hit by the light—a ninja codenamed Red Shark—stood motionless.

"Red Shark!" another called out cautiously.

Red Shark's eyes snapped open. His pupils dilated, and his face twisted into an expression of pure agony. His mouth gaped as if screaming, but no sound escaped.

A cold wind blew through the clearing, sending shivers down the spines of the remaining Anbu.

Before they could react, the white light emerged again, streaking into another Anbu.

"What the—!"

Their instincts screamed danger, but they had no idea how to counter this bizarre attack.

From the shadows, Baishi observed, his ethereal form glowing faintly.

"Let's see how well this works."
