Su Xiao reviewed his personal stats carefully and memorized them.
He was currently at LV.1, which essentially represented his permissions within "Reincarnation Paradise." However, the world he had entered—One Piece—was at difficulty level 6, while he was only at level 1, meaning this world was incredibly dangerous for him.
Under normal circumstances, "Reincarnation Paradise" wouldn't send a contract holder to a world more than five levels higher. This anomaly was directly related to his identity as a Hunter.
What benefits did this Hunter title provide? Su Xiao wasn't sure yet, but he was already feeling the downsides—namely, the immense danger. He was in a world of LV.6, tasked with a mission of LV.3, while he was still LV.1. The "game" difficulty was clearly ramped up.
According to the information from "Reincarnation Paradise," he would also be tasked with eliminating certain "abnormal" contract holders in future worlds. This essentially meant that most other contractors were his natural enemies. Even if Su Xiao were willing to cooperate with them, the others wouldn't agree.
If they discovered his identity, they'd likely attack him en masse. After all, who could be sure their number wasn't on Su Xiao's hit list?
As for the so-called protection measures at the top of his status, Su Xiao wasn't very trusting of Reincarnation Paradise. If he didn't fully trust the place itself, why would he trust their so-called "protection"?
On the bright side, his attributes were superior to an average person's—evidence of his intense training. While this physical prowess might not mean much in the One Piece world, it gave him a better starting point.
However, Su Xiao's strength wasn't just about his attribute numbers; he had another skill: he knew how to fight and wasn't afraid to. He wasn't one of those overly calculating types, but he had the courage to risk injury or death. While not completely fearless, Su Xiao's bravery was far greater than that of an average person, allowing him to undertake dangerous tasks.
This courage was his greatest asset in navigating "Reincarnation Paradise."
Sometimes, a brave heart was more important than a strong body.
"So, let's see just how dangerous this world of pirates really is."
He sprinted forward a few steps, stepping onto a window ledge and leaping into the air. Stretching his arms upward, he grabbed the edge of the roof and, with a powerful pull, hauled his body up, peeking through a hole in the ceiling.
Just as Su Xiao was about to survey the outside, a sharp sound rang out.
Bang.
It was a gunshot—muffled, but unmistakable. Su Xiao quickly deduced it.
Pulling his body back to the wall, Su Xiao hung from the ledge, cautiously peeking out to assess the situation outside.
Bang, bang, bang...
The sound of gunfire filled the air, like popping kernels. Su Xiao quickly deduced that it was a shootout between two factions at the Gray Terminal.
There were dozens of people on both sides, engaged in mid-range combat.
Su Xiao noticed that the participants all wore ragged clothing and looked malnourished, likely refugees from the Gray Terminal.
"Toby, this territory is ours! What do you mean by this? We're all just scavengers, aren't we? Do you really want to wipe us out?"
The gunfire quieted for a moment as the two groups started shouting at each other.
"Your territory? I've got over a dozen guns now. From now on, I call the shots here! Once I've saved enough Berries, I'm heading out to sea. Then, I'll be a pirate."
"Toby," the large-bearded man sneered, "put down your weapons, and I'll give you a chance to join..."
Before he could finish his sentence, another gunshot cut him off, forcing Toby to duck behind a pile of trash.
From his position in the dilapidated building, Su Xiao could see the man clearly. Toby was a burly bearded man, grinning wickedly as he stood behind the trash heap. Clearly, he had no intention of accepting the surrender—he wanted to wipe out the other group.
This large, muscular man, Toby, was different from the other malnourished scavengers. He was tall, brawny, and heavily muscled.
Su Xiao sighed. He was finally experiencing the dangers of an LV.6 world firsthand.
Had he recklessly rushed out earlier, he would have been shot full of holes. And this was just the beginning. Things were only going to get more dangerous.
As Su Xiao waited for the shootout to end, a nimble figure suddenly leaped down from the roof into the house he was hiding in.
"Phew, that was close. Finally, a safe..." The newcomer's words trailed off as they spotted Su Xiao hanging from the wall.
"Um..."
Before they could say anything more, Su Xiao let go of the eaves, dropping to the ground.
Landing silently, he crouched low and sprang forward like a predator. The stranger tried to speak, but it was too late.
Su Xiao's first punch landed in the person's stomach, and he could feel their abdomen collapse under the impact.
The stranger bent over in pain, just about to scream, but Su Xiao clamped his hand over their mouth, muffling the sound.
It wasn't over yet. Su Xiao kept one hand on their mouth while his other hand, flat like a blade, struck the person's chest.
Thud. The dull sound of a blow to the chest reverberated.
Su Xiao felt the person's body go limp, their eyes wide with fear as they collapsed, able only to let out faint murmurs.
"A woman?"
He had attacked because he couldn't tell whether the person was friend or foe—better to neutralize them first.
"Please… don't hurt me." came a tiny, mosquito-like voice.
Su Xiao looked the stranger over. Their hair was black and uneven, their face smeared with dust, but beneath the grime, their skin was pale. The oversized clothes they wore suggested a frail, young figure.
"Who are you?"
Su Xiao guessed that the person had likely come here to hide.
"My name is Mia. I really mean no harm. Please don't hurt me." Mia said softly.
Although her heart had taken a heavy blow, Mia hadn't passed out, which suggested a surprisingly strong constitution. Still, she wouldn't be able to move freely for a while.
"Don't make a sound, or I'll kill you." Su Xiao threatened.
When it came to life-threatening situations, Su Xiao wouldn't hesitate to kill. He still had a deep grudge to settle.
Gulp.
The fifteen or sixteen-year-old girl named Mia swallowed nervously.
"Okay, I just want to hide. I won't make a sound."
She suddenly felt that staying with this man might not be any safer than being outside.
The gunfire outside gradually subsided, signaling that the chaotic battle was coming to an end.
Su Xiao remained patient. Once the fighting outside stopped, he would make his move. It was risky, but also an opportunity—he desperately needed a weapon.
Starting with nothing, not even a proper stick nearby, Su Xiao knew his situation was dire.
