Chapter 12 - Horror of the Gods!

"Eh!"

Arohan exclaimed in shock after hearing the sudden announcement.

"When did I apply to join you?"

He couldn't help but blurt out maintaining the shocked expression.

"You have three days of time to think over this decision. I will summon you after that."

The captain stated and then gestured for him to leave.

Arohan could only leave the room with a confused expression. He didn't want to join that group at all because he didn't like fighting, but for some reason, he suddenly had a gut feeling that joining them wouldn't be a bad decision.

"You are the first one whom the captain had personally chosen, so think deeply about it!"

The soldier said after leaving the captain's tent. His tone was no longer superior, but instead, it was as if he was talking to his equal.

Arohan might not know the status of the captain, but he did. The captain personally trying to hire someone to join the group showed Arohan's talent. Since he respected the captain, he also respected the latter's decision.

"What is the casualty ratio in this job?"

Arohan asked after a long pause. The more time he spent thinking about that invite, the greater he felt that it might be a good decision to join. Now that he had learned about the power system of the world, he couldn't accept living like an ordinary person.

He knew he wasn't ordinary after the scenes he saw that day and the power of the orb. In no way, those things could be explained as ordinary things.

Since he was feeling good about the invite, he decided to give a deep thought to it. But at the same time, Arohan didn't want to die, so he asked the soldier about the casualty ratio.

Despite his gut feeling, he wouldn't join if it were too high. After going through all that, he didn't want to die in some battle against an enemy he didn't even know.

The soldier seemed to have expected that question, so he instantly answered, surprising Arohan.

"We had had 0 casualties in the last three hundred years."

"How can you have 0 casualty of you don't join conflicts at all?"

Arohan asked with a shocked expression since that was clearly unbelievable after all the boasting the captain had done for his group.

They could only have 0 casualties if they weren't fighting at all or the soldier was lying about it.

Arohan looked at the book with a curious expression. It was a thick book with the thickness of his thighs. Its cover seemed to be made from some soft skin, while there were signs of teeth marks embedded as if someone had tried to bite through the skin cover.

This book was suggested to Arohan by the soldier as he felt Arohan reading about what their group does would be better than him telling it.

For no reason, Arohan felt a heavy feeling in his heart as soon as he tried to open the cover. It was only an instant feeling, so he forgot about it and opened the cover.

"World is hidden behind a veil. Those who can see that are the most unfortunate for they become privy to the horror of the Gods."

"The Gods aren't kind entities that look over the living, but they are beings of the highest order with unlimited power at their disposal."

"Gods are kind yet barbaric. They are caring yet indifferent."

"Good and Evil are distinctions only for mortals. For the Gods, it is just their normal deeds."

"May The One Spark Eldrain vanquish our enemies."

Content in bold red appeared before Arohan's eyes. With a glance, the content didn't seem that heavy, but as he began to read, his body began to tremble.

When he read the part about Gods being kind, he felt a warm feeling, but in the next sentence, he felt as if he was in hell ready to get devoured.

When it was 'caring', he felt as if his mother and father were there looking at him with their gentle smiles, but as soon as 'indifferent' appeared, he felt his entire body turning cold from fear.

It was still nothing compared to the chill when he read the next sentence about Good and Evil.

He seemed to have found himself in an illusion, where two groups of people were there. One group was beating themselves with barbed wire sticks while singing praise to the glory of Gods, while the other side was banging their heads repeatedly on the ground, doing the same.

But as soon as he read the last sentence, all that feeling disappeared.

Arohan had heard about Eldrain, the One Spark as it was the deity that was being worshipped across the planet Yavar. It was a very powerful God that controlled the power of life and creation.

There were some small religious sects across the planet, but Eldrain was the most worshipped deity across the border.

For some reason, Arohan felt a heavy and hurried feeling as soon as he thought of Eldrain. The next moment, he felt a gaze looking at him from an unknown amount of distance.

His entire body began to tremble as a subconscious fear rose in his heart, but the gaze didn't linger for even the trillionth of a second, so everything became normal in around ten minutes.

And that too was done by the orb. if not for it, it would have taken even longer for him to return to normal.

Arohan had read that even the names of the Gods are sentient and all-powerful. The moment anyone utters them, the specific Deity notices them. Some might be lucky enough to get a gaze directed at them, while some might be unlucky as some Gods don't take weak non-worshippers speaking their names.

Since Eldrain was a popular deity and was worshipped by countless beings, Arohan only felt some pressure when the gaze was directed at him.
