But what was the point of building a relationship with the Kaguya clan? That volatile family was bound to attack the Mist Village as soon as Yagura became the Mizukage. It was a ticking time bomb.
"Tsunade-chan, Kushina-san," Uchiha Fugaku and his companion greeted as they entered the living room.
Kushina smiled politely, but she wasn't happy at all. It was New Year's, and instead of celebrating peacefully, two unexpected guests had arrived.
And on top of that...
Why do people keep treating me like a kid? Kushina fumed internally.
"When you become the clan leader, avoid getting involved with the Land of Water. That place is cursed," Shinki said bluntly, addressing the young Uchiha leaders.
Both Fugaku and his companion froze. The ominous tone of Shinki's words was hard to ignore.
Kushina and Tsunade exchanged glances, their confusion evident.
"Why shouldn't they go to the Land of Water? What do you mean their relative might not last long?" Kushina asked, her curiosity piqued.
Shinki sighed, realizing the misunderstanding. He waved dismissively. "I'm just saying that the Mist Village isn't like Konoha. The islands are disjointed, their customs breed conflict, and the Kaguya clan is a disaster waiting to happen. They're not just crazy—they're outright suicidal."
He paused before adding, "If you get too close to the Kaguya clan, you'll end up dragged into their mess."
Fugaku and his companion nodded thoughtfully. The warning wasn't something they could ignore.
Tsunade, however, seemed unimpressed. "Why should we care about the Kaguya clan?"
Shinki smirked. "The Kaguya are like a worse version of Uchiha. Here in Konoha, Uchiha get mocked as the 'mad clan,' but it's mostly jokes and slander. The Kaguya, on the other hand, are mad—completely and utterly reckless."
He leaned back in his chair. "As soon as the Third Mizukage is out of the picture, chaos will erupt in Mist Village. Yagura will take over, and trust me, the Kaguya clan won't survive his rule."
Fugaku hesitated, sensing that Shinki's comments had a deeper purpose.
"Don't look at me," Shinki said, reading Fugaku's expression. "I don't make village policies. If you have issues, you should be speaking to Tsunade. She's right here."
Fugaku's frustration was evident. The Uchiha clan's troubles were never-ending. He had come hoping to gain insight from Shinki about softening relations between the clan and the village.
"Don't expect miracles," Shinki said firmly. "The Uchiha problem is rooted in history. It's not something that can be fixed overnight."
"But isn't there anything we can do?" Fugaku pressed, desperation creeping into his voice.
Tsunade rolled her eyes and pulled Kushina out of the room, leaving Shinki to deal with the matter. Once they were gone, Shinki faced Fugaku directly.
"Are the Uchiha willing to give up the Police Department?" he asked flatly.
Fugaku froze. The question struck a nerve. The Police Department had long been regarded as a cornerstone of Uchiha identity. To suggest abandoning it was almost unthinkable.
"That's... complicated," Fugaku stammered.
Shinki sighed and sipped his tea. "Then don't expect anything to change. The Police Department is a thankless job. As long as Uchiha controls it, the villagers will resent you. Even if the Hokage doesn't target you, the public will."
He set his cup down and leaned forward. "Let me tell you a secret. The Nidaime Hokage gave Uchiha control of the Police Department not out of trust, but to ensure your clan's bad reputation. And the Sandaime continued that strategy."
Fugaku's eyes widened in shock. "But why? We've worked hard to maintain order—"
"And yet, you've placed all your elite ninjas in a position that forces them to enforce laws and make arrests. It's not just thankless—it's self-destructive," Shinki said bluntly. "The villagers see your clan as enforcers, not protectors."
He continued, "If Uchiha truly wants change, you'll have to negotiate with the leadership. Offer to step back from the Police Department in exchange for fair treatment and integration into other aspects of village life. Otherwise, this cycle will continue."
Fugaku's companion shifted uncomfortably, feeling the weight of Shinki's words. Compared to Uchiha, his clan's internal troubles seemed trivial. At least they weren't constantly targeted by the village leadership.
Fugaku, however, looked visibly pained. The truth was hard to swallow, but Shinki wasn't done.
"Unless a Hokage with no bias against Uchiha takes power, your situation won't improve," Shinki said. "And even if that happens, the history of mistrust will still linger."
Fugaku and his companion sat in stunned silence. The implications of Shinki's words were terrifying. If they weren't careful, the Uchiha clan could be permanently alienated—or worse.
"Think about it carefully," Shinki said, his tone softer. "This isn't about pride. It's about survival."
The room fell silent, and the weight of Shinki's advice hung heavily in the air.
