Ever since their camp was decimated by Konoha's airdropped puppets, Sand Village had lived in a state of perpetual fear. The possibility of Konoha replicating the same devastating attack in their home village loomed heavily over their leadership.
The Third Kazekage and Chiyo had tried to bolster their defenses by stationing more sensory ninjas to detect incoming threats. But their efforts were futile.
The Problem of Defending a Village
While deploying sensory ninjas worked reasonably well for isolated camps, it was an entirely different challenge for a village as vast as Sand Village. Covering the entire area with constant sensory scans would require exhausting manpower and resources.
Sensory ninjas were human, not machines. They couldn't operate 24/7 without collapsing from exhaustion.
Sand Village simply didn't have the capacity to maintain that level of vigilance. Even if they tried to set up barriers like Konoha's advanced systems, the cost would be astronomical.
As a result, despite their precautions, the Sand Village remained vulnerable. And that vulnerability was about to be exploited.
Airdropped Chaos
Shinki's crow puppets arrived under the cover of night, carrying their payload: over 100 disposable puppets created from the remains of enemy ninjas. The attack wasn't meant to destroy the village but to serve as a warning—a reminder that no one could limit Konoha's strategies without paying the price.
The crow puppet released its scrolls high above the village, their descent masked by the howling desert winds. The sandstorm-like conditions muffled the sound of the falling scrolls, allowing the puppets to deploy unnoticed.
Shinki had programmed the puppets with a single command: Find high-value targets and explode.
The First Explosion
The quiet of the night was shattered by a deafening boom. A three-story building in the heart of Sand Village collapsed in a cloud of dust and debris.
The first explosion woke the entire village.
The puppets, scattered throughout the village, began their chaotic mission. High-value targets like tall structures, important buildings, and the iconic Kazekage office became their focus.
The Kazekage Building, a symbol of Sand Village's leadership, bore the brunt of the attack. Puppet after puppet converged on the structure, detonating in rapid succession.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The office building crumbled in a series of spectacular explosions, leaving the stunned patrols and villagers gaping in disbelief.
Chaos Erupts
"The enemy has infiltrated the village!" shouted one patrol ninja, running toward the source of the explosions.
"Enemy attack!" another yelled, their voice carrying through the panicked streets.
Ninjas scrambled to locate the intruders, but the self-destructing puppets left them little opportunity to fight back. As soon as the puppets found suitable targets, they detonated, leaving no traces behind.
The explosions caused widespread chaos. Civilians screamed and fled, their panic spreading like wildfire. Ninjas who were supposed to protect the village were overwhelmed by the sheer unpredictability of the attack.
The Chain Reaction
Amid the chaos, a ninja from the front lines identified the enemy's tactics. "These are Konoha's self-destructing puppets! It's the same attack that hit our camp!"
This revelation triggered a chain reaction of fear among the villagers. Everyone in Sand Village had heard about the devastating puppet attack on the battlefield. Now, that same terror was unfolding in their own homes.
The panic reached a fever pitch as more buildings exploded. Sand Village, once a bastion of resilience in the harsh desert, had descended into chaos in mere minutes.
Leadership in Crisis
The Third Kazekage was away at the Five Kage Talks, and Chiyo was on the front lines. The responsibility of managing the crisis fell to Ebizo, Chiyo's brother and a veteran advisor.
"Lord Ebizo, the village is in turmoil," a panicked ninja reported. "Konoha's self-destructing puppets are targeting key buildings. The situation is out of control!"
Ebizo gritted his teeth. He knew their leadership was stretched thin. Beyond the Third Kazekage, Chiyo, and himself, Sand Village had few capable leaders to manage such crises. The lack of strong secondary leadership had left them vulnerable.
A Message Delivered
Shinki's attack wasn't designed to kill but to send a clear message. The explosions were focused on structures rather than people, aiming to cripple morale and showcase the vulnerability of the village.
The timing was deliberate. The attack coincided with the ongoing Five Kage Talks, ensuring that news of the incident would reach the summit quickly and create a ripple effect among the other villages.
The Aftermath
By dawn, Sand Village was left reeling. Iconic structures lay in ruins, and the village's sense of security was shattered. The villagers demanded answers, their anger and fear directed at their leaders.
For Shinki, the operation had achieved its purpose. Sand Village, and by extension the other villages, would think twice before trying to impose restrictions on Konoha.
Meanwhile, at the Five Kage Summit
As the Five Kage Talks resumed, news of the attack reached the Kazekage. His face paled as he learned of the destruction in his village.
Shinki, seated in the lounge, couldn't help but smirk. Let them try to negotiate now, he thought. Perhaps they'll realize the cost of targeting Konoha.
The Five Kage Talks were about to take a dramatic turn. The balance of power had shifted, and Konoha's message was loud and clear: If you threaten us, be prepared to pay the price.
