The puppets Shinki had created were horrifyingly effective, and it was only a matter of time before their infamy spread throughout the ninja world. Everyone would soon have to prepare to defend against Shinki's devastating creations.
The true terror of these puppets lay not just in their attack power but in their self-destruction capabilities. What made it worse was their apparent ability to be mass-produced. The implications were chilling—if such puppets infiltrated a village in large numbers, it would spell utter disaster.
Shinki, however, paid no attention to the chaos he had left behind in the Sand Village camp. The puppets had completed their mission. The once-formidable camp was now riddled with scars, panic, and confusion.
"Kill!"
Amid the turmoil, Konoha launched a fierce assault on the retreating Sand Village forces, capitalizing on their disarray.
At Konoha's headquarters, Orochimaru exuded excitement, issuing rapid orders to coordinate the attack. Meanwhile, Shinki yawned, unconcerned by the urgency.
"I'm heading back," Shinki announced. "Once the battle starts, the medical department will be flooded with wounded. I'll need to oversee the situation there."
Full-scale assaults affected everyone, even the medics. Injured soldiers would pour into the medical department from the front lines, so Shinki had to prepare for the influx. The command of the battlefield was better left in Orochimaru's capable hands.
"If Orochimaru can't win with everything in his favor, he should just step down and let someone else handle it," Shinki thought with a smirk.
In the Sand Village camp, chaos reigned. Reports of Konoha's coordinated attack came streaming in, adding fuel to the fire. A frazzled messenger burst into Chiyo's tent.
"Lady Chiyo, Konoha has launched a massive assault! They've attacked several strongholds, and their ninjas are shouting that our camp is under siege!"
Chiyo's face turned pale as her frustration boiled over. The timing of Konoha's attack was too perfect—striking them while their morale and defenses were already in shambles. She clenched her fists, suppressing the urge to lash out.
"Send word to the front lines: retreat gradually and regroup at the rear," Chiyo ordered. The losses were already staggering, and further resistance would only lead to more devastation. She needed to pull back to minimize damage and regroup for a counter-strategy.
The retreat was inevitable. Konoha's dual-pronged assault was designed to force them out of the River Country and push them back into the Wind Country. Chiyo hated the thought of retreating, but preserving their strength was her only viable option.
Chiyo's orders rippled through the camp. Ninja scrambled to collect supplies, treat the wounded, and prepare for evacuation. For many, it was a grim task—severely injured comrades and broken bodies had to be left behind. They could only retrieve what they could carry.
Morale had taken a severe blow. The terror of the self-destructing puppets lingered in everyone's minds, shattering their confidence. Chiyo knew that without morale, even the strongest shinobi would falter. The retreat was not just about preserving manpower but about salvaging what remained of their shattered spirit.
Back at Konoha's camp, Orochimaru was calm and collected, orchestrating the final stages of the assault.
"Our mission is to drive them out of the River Country, not to annihilate them," Orochimaru reminded his subordinates. "We will chase them, but we won't corner them to the point of desperation. It's not worth the losses."
Despite his orders, he knew some overzealous shinobi might let their emotions get the better of them. Orochimaru made sure his commands were clear and repeated to ensure no one went rogue.
Konoha's forces pursued the retreating Sand Village shinobi, forcing them to abandon supplies and retreat hastily. Any resources that couldn't be carried were destroyed to prevent them from falling into Konoha's hands. Explosions and fires dotted the battlefield as supplies were deliberately obliterated.
Chiyo's retreat was swift but grueling. The wounded suffered the most during the retreat to the Wind Country, with many succumbing to their injuries along the way. For Chiyo, the retreat was a bitter pill to swallow. Still, she clung to the hope of rebuilding their strength and morale once they regrouped.
Meanwhile, Konoha celebrated a hard-won victory. However, the aftermath was anything but easy. Shinki and Orochimaru bore the brunt of the workload as the wounded poured into the medical department.
The once-relaxed Shinki was now swamped with patients, leaving no time for rest. Orochimaru, on the other hand, had to plan the logistics of relocating Konoha's camp closer to the new front lines in the Wind Country.
Victory came with its own set of challenges, but for now, Konoha had the upper hand. The Sand Village had been forced back to their homeland, leaving them vulnerable and demoralized. Still, the war was far from over, and both sides braced for the battles to come.
