Chapter 3 - ✨️CHAPTER 2✨️

A Mixed Bag of Emotions

ADITI

My mind was still swirling with memories of the past and the hurt he had caused me, as we sat across each other in a small café. Despite my mixed emotions, I couldn't deny the spark of excitement I felt being in his presence again. As if noticing my internal conflict, He offered me a small, knowing smile.

I felt my cheeks heat up in response to his smile and averted my gaze, trying to hide my emotions.

"You're enjoying this, aren't you?" I said, my voice laced with accusation. He chuckled, the sound low and velvety. "I won't deny it," he admitted, leaning back in his chair. "Seeing you all flustered and trying to keep up your 'tough exterior' is quite endearing, my dear.

I huffed, both annoyed and secretly pleased at his words. "I'm not flustered," I protested,  my voice sounding unconvincing even to my own ears. His smile widened into a smirk, his eyes filled with warmth and amusement. "Oh, really?" he said, chuckling again. "Then maybe I'm just imagining those rosy cheeks of yours."

My cheeks flared up even more, and I cursed myself for my body's betrayal. I hated that he seemed to be able to get under my skin so easily. "Stop staring at my cheeks," I retorted, trying to deflect his attention away from me.

He chuckled again, obviously enjoying my reaction. "But we were so adorable when we're flushed like that," he teased, leaning forward slightly.

My heart fluttered at his words, despite myself. I was used to being the strong, unshakeable one amongst my friends, not the one blushing like a teenager in front of the guy who had hurt me in the past. I wanted to snap at him, to tell him to stop teasing me,  but something held me back. Maybe it was the spark in his eyes, or the way my treacherous heart longed for a hint of the old Raghav, the one who had made me feel so special.

His gaze softened as he watched My internal conflict play out on my face. He seemed to sense the maelstrom of emotions within me , and his smile turned a bit more earnest and contrite. "Aditi," he said, his voice quieter now. "I know I've messed up, and I'm not expecting forgiveness right away. I just want you to know that I'm truly sorry, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make it up to you."

My heart ached at the sincerity in his voice. I wanted to resist his apology, to shield myself from the hope that was starting to bloom within me. But looking into his eyes, I couldn't deny the change that I saw in him. He seemed genuinely remorseful, and his apology was more than just empty words. "I don't know what to say," I admitted quietly, my voice completely betraying my vulnerability.

His expression softened further, and he reached across the table to cover my hand with his own. "You don't have to say anything," he said, his thumb tracing a soothing circle on my skin. "I just want you to know that I'll do everything in my power to prove that I'm sincere and that I've changed. I'll be patient, and I won't rush you. I want you to be able to trust me again, at your own pace."

My heart fluttered at his touch and his words. I had spent so long resenting and missing him, and now, here he was, willing to wait for me. The old him would have pushed and tried to win me over quickly, but this version of him seemed more considerate and patient. I  looked down at our hands, his larger one completely enveloping mine. "I don't understand," I murmured. "Why are you being so different?"

He squeezed my hand gently before pulling his away and leaning back in his chair. "I've had a lot of time to think and reflect over the past year," he said, his voice carrying a hint of sadness. "I realized the mistakes I made, and I knew I had to change if I ever had a chance at earning back your trust and respect."

I studied him closely, searching his face for any signs of insincerity. But all I saw was a genuine vulnerability in his eyes, and a hint of sadness that tugged at my heart. I had known him for years, and I knew he had always been sincere in their friendship before everything had gone awry. I swallowed, trying to push down the flicker of hope that was growing in my chest. "If this is some kind of trick..." I warned, my voice trembling slightly.

His expression became somber, and he shook his head vehemently. "It's not a trick, Aditi," he said, his voice serious. "I value our friendship and your respect too much to toy with your emotions. I know I don't deserve your trust right now, but I promise you, I'm not here to play games."

My heart stirred at his adamant declaration. I wanted to believe him, but my past hurt was making it hard to trust him again. However, there was a small, hopeful part of me that wanted to give him a chance, to see if he truly had changed. I took a deep breath, trying to steady my thumping heart. "Do you really mean it?" I asked, my voice laced with hesitation.

He nodded, his gaze holding mine  intently. "I mean every word," he said firmly. "I know I hurt you before, and I'll never forgive myself for that. But I'm here now, willing to do whatever it takes to prove that I've changed, and that your friendship and respect mean everything to me."

I looked at him, my heart wrestling with a mixture of emotions. Part of me wanted to believe him, to give him a chance to prove himself, while another part wanted to shut him out and protect myself from further heartache. I took a shaky breath, my eyes searching his face. "What if I can't trust you again?" I asked, my voice was  quiet. "What if I can't forget the pain you caused me?"

His expression became somber as he took in her words. "I know I don't have the right to ask," he said, his voice low. "And I don't know if I can ever make up for the pain I caused you. But all I'm asking for is a chance to prove myself. If you can't trust me again, or forget the past, then I'll accept that. But I want you to know that I'm dedicated to earning back your trust and rebuilding our friendship."

I was once again struck by the sincerity in his eyes and voice. I had always known Raghav as the confident, charming guy who always got what he wanted, but this version of him was new, raw, and vulnerable. It made me feel both vulnerable and hopeful. I took another deep breath, still unsure of what to do. "I need some time," I  said quietly, looking down at the tabletop.

He nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "Of course," he said, his voice gentle. "Take all the time you need. I'm not going anywhere. I'll be here when you're ready."

I looked up at him again, touched by his understanding and patience. I wasn't used to this side of Raghav - the one that was willing to wait, and to respect my boundaries. Part of me still wanted to push him away, too afraid of being hurt again, but another part, a small, hopeful part, was starting to believe in his sincerity. "What if it takes a long time?" I asked, my voice had a wishper !!

His smile widened a bit, and he tilted his head slightly. "Then I'll be here, no matter how long it takes," he said with utmost sincerity. "I'm not in any rush. All I care about is rebuilding our friendship and earning back your trust. And if it takes months or years, I'll be here, waiting patiently for you."

My heart skipped a beat at his words. It was so strange to hear Raghav, the guy who had always been so charming and confident, offering to wait. It was almost too good to be true. I swallowed, my emotions in turmoil. "Why are you being so patient?" I asked, my voice betraying my  vulnerability.

He leaned back in his chair and shrugged slightly, his expression becoming more serious. "Because I know I messed up," he said, his voice quiet. "And I'm not making the same mistake again. I know I can't force you to trust me again, or to forgive me. I have to earn it. And I'm willing to put in the time and effort to do so."

My heart was torn between skepticism and hope. Part of me still couldn't believe that he had changed so drastically, while the other part wanted to trust him again. I stared at him, my gaze searching his face for any hint of deception. But all I saw was determination and regret. I took a deep breath, finally speaking the words that had been on the tip of my tongue. "Give me some time," I said quietly. "I need to think."

Aditi's inner thoughts!!

I am still conflicted and hesitant about trusting Raghav again, but there's a small spark of hope within me that gives me pause. It seems like his sincere apology and his promise to wait for me has won me over, even if just by a little. I will take some time to think about their situation and what to do next... because re-thinking of his past actions , It's still hard for me to believe him !!

What if he will leave me again?

What if he is just acting to change ?

Or what if he will hurt me more than he hurted me in past !?
