Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: "No System? No Master?"

Cangwu Continent, Southern Region. White Cloud Sect- Yinwu Forest.

....

The sound of rain and thunder resounded throughout the night. Deep within a cave was a boy in white robes that had been bloodied and torn. His black hair was disheveled and body was covered in numerous injuries. Without interference, he would soon be dead. Suddenly, lightning struck the cave the boy was residing within, and a piercing white light enveloped the cave within an instant. Slowly, the boy's eyelids began to open.

Ughh... I'm alive?

The last thing he remembered was being picked up by a taxi from the airport and getting into a car crash. His face began to contort, as a piercing headache began to attack his mind- years of memories began to flash by. He let out a self-deprecating chuckle as he thought about his current predicament.

Hahh... So I managed to transmigrate into a world that seems to be right out of a xianxia novel. I hope that taxi driver managed to survive. Who knows, maybe he transmigrated too.

My name in this world is Bai Jian, same as before. Isn't this quite typical? Whatever the case, I'll think about that all later.

The previous owner was ambushed by a group of people wearing black clothing while returning from a mission outside of the sect. Through a stroke of luck, he managed to kill one of them. Running with the man's belongings, he fled into a cave hidden out of view to seek shelter but ultimately ended up succumbing to his injuries.

No more time to sit and think about all that right now, my main priority should be to get out of this cave.

He tore a piece of his robe off and wrapped it around his arm. Slowly getting up, he found a stick to make into a makeshift cane and slowly left the cave. Following the river, Bai Jian slowly made it back to the sect. Without alerting anyone, he safely made it back to his house and fell on top of his bed.

Reminiscing about his past life's memories from Earth he clenched his fist as he thought about all the life he left behind. Back on Earth, he was a 3rd year university student, soon to graduate. He was returning to his home city as summer was approaching and the school year had ended. Who would have thought that as soon as he got into the taxi to go home, he would have been launched right into a car crash.

He struggled internally, as he knew that something larger was at play with him being sent to this world, this could be no mere coincidence. He might not be able to do anything now, but in a world where immortals and devils reigned supreme, he was sure there was an answer for his crossing over. Since the reason was currently out of reach for him, he knew there was no point in brooding over it for the time being.

Only with strength can I obtain a grasp on my own fate!

With memories of this world's Bai Jian merging with his memories from life back on Earth, he decided from now on he would live on as Bai Jian from both worlds.

....

The name of the sect was the White Cloud Sect, where he had been residing the last few years. Through the memories of this body, Bai Jian learned that he currently was an outer disciple of the sect, and he only managed to obtain this spot due to his clan.

Bai Jian was a member of the Bai Clan within the Southern Region of the Cangwu Continent. His parents were missing since his birth, leading him to be raised by his grandfather. His grandfather's name was Bai Tianlong, and was the current patriarch of the Bai Clan. Learning through the stories told by his his grandfather, he learned that his father's name was Bai Yuntian, a leading figure of his generation and was considered a heaven-defying genius.

One day, his father returned home with a baby in tow, saying that he would return one day. However, after years passed and he never returned, many people within the Bai Clan had begun to spread rumors that Bai Yuntian was dead. With no mother or father to guide him, Bai Jian could only rely on the guidance of his grandfather, Bai Tianlong.

Life as a young master within the clan wasn't always the easiest. Growing up Bai Jian did not show any talent when it came to cultivation unlike his father. Although it was disappointing, his grandfather still doted on him. Besides the fact that he was met with ridicule from others within the clan, he had led an average life so far. When Bai Jian was of age, he was sent to cultivate within the White Cloud Sect, and was allowed to become an outer disciple of the sect.

Bai Jian was considered an average disciple, reaching the 7th Level of Qi Condensation after all the years in the outer sect and began stagnating. The cultivation technique he was practicing was the signature technique of the sect, the "White Cloud Breathing Technique". While he had considerable progress at the start, he began to plateau as many others do. Cultivation was an arduous task, not many people were able to further their cultivation in their lifetime.

My first task at hand should be to assess my current situation.

My run in with the group of people in black clothing shouldn't have been a chance encounter. They seemed to have been searching for something within the Yinwu Forest.

Bai Jian looked through the belongings of the man he killed the night before. There were a few Qi Gathering Pills within, some rations, a map, and what seemed to be some sort of key.

Looks like whatever is on this map should be what they were looking for, and the key should be related to it… I'll have to take a look there the next time I leave the sect.

He knew abruptly leaving the sect without notice and going into the Yinwu Forest while there was a lot of attention on it would only lead to trouble for him. If he decided to go now, well he'd simply be courting death as they say. It'd be best to put his focus onto other matters for now. The White Cloud seemed to be conducting its quinquennial tournament soon, and the top 5 disciples would be recruited into the inner sect.

My main focus should be becoming stronger for this tournament, only by entering the inner sect I can obtain more resources and will be able to further my cultivation!

The question is, how should I go about this?

Usually all the protagonists come with some sort of cheat. Was there a hidden pagoda in his mind? Any sort of hidden family inheritance bloodline type of deal? He closed his eyes and concentrated. Didn't seem so.

"System… ACTIVATE!"

Well… seems like I don't have a system.

"Hello, are you there senior?"

No reply, seems like there was no old monster residing within my mind as well.

Damn… I really am pitiful compared to these other transmigrators from the novels…
