[...]

I was stunned, the same soft gentle voice kept reverberating within my head, floating windows of alert kept flashing before my eyes.

I stumbled backwards, almost losing my balance. I closed my eyes but I could still see the notification flashes, it made me feel dizzy.

But at the same time, even though I was filled with nausea, I could also feel my heartbeat pounding in my heart.

I didn't need to ask to know what was happening, I have unlocked a system, my goldfinger that will make my life fun!

It was like my wish for the shooting star came to pass.

'I can't believe I've unlocked my own cheat system, hopefully, it's not as disappointing as this world.'

No, even if it is, as long as it can make my life interesting, I'll welcome it with open hands.

"Young master, are you feeling okay?"

I looked behind me, although my vision was blurry, I could vaguely make out a masculine figure. Although it was vague, I knew it was Reid, my butler.

"It's fine, I'm just a bit dizzy…." I replied.

"It's already past midnight, young master. Should I begin sending off the guests?"

In this world, a butler was synonymous to the status of their master. Old butlers were seen as wise while young butlers were the opposite.

Hence, for the son of a marquis to have an eighteen year old as his butler, it was nothing short of basically announcing to the world that,

'I'm the reject of my household and I am useless.'

But I don't mind Reid, in fact, I picked him up myself when I was younger. He used to be a commoner who lived on the streets.

He was pretty skilled, a bit talented in swordsmanship. Hence, I took him in.

Moreover, at the time, I felt like a stranger like him wouldn't notice the change between the former Emris and me who had just taken over his body not long ago.

Because of this, Reid was pretty smart and he knew what I liked and didn't. This was why he suggested sending off the guests, he knew I loathed them all.

"Yes please. I'll retreat to my chambers soon."

"I'll bring you a cup of tea."

Reid bowed before walking away. The sounds had stopped and the windows weren't pouring in anymore.

'The fact that Reid didn't notice it means only I can see it. As expected.' I already guessed as much but it was better to be safe than sorry.

I began to read through the information and soon, I got the basic gist of it. To make things even easier, the system possessed a soul.

'Although I want to speak to it, I don't want to seem mad. Until everyone leaves, I'll just check out other things.'

If people noticed me standing in the balcony, lonely while talking to myself, I was pretty sure I would be one of the headlines for the news tomorrow.

In this empire, nothing traveled faster than gossip.

'So the requirement for awakening and bonding with the system was to come of age… that explains it.'

I've wondered quite a few times why I didn't have a cheat like most transmigrators or reincarnators, in fact, it seemed like I even had the opposite of a cheat in that I had a broken core.

It made me wonder if maybe I was being too hopeful. But alas, this is a fantasy world with magical beasts and humans soaring into the sky, a cheat wasn't too much to ask.

Now, I have finally Awakened my cheat. I don't care about any other thing, as long as this system could help me find a way to heal my broken core.

Although it was said to be impossible, it was called a cheat for a reason. Moreover, barely thirty percent of this world has been explored.

Almost a thousand years ago, this world underwent a sudden 'mutation'. Many guessed it fused with a different world of beasts and ancient ruins, turning this world into a new one.

This fusion brought about mana, as well as magical abilities, knights and imperial censors.

'As long as I fix my core and become either a warlock or a knight, I will be able to explore!'

It was my life long dream to explore this world and because of my situation, I wasn't able to.

I turned around and began to head for my room. I needed to check this system out properly.

'But a gacha though,... Isn't that like a lottery game system where you roll for cards with money?'

A few of the guests called out to me but I directly ignored them. The moment I arrived at my room, I closed the door behind me and bolted it.

"Esfyn, is there a status window?" I asked the moment I made sure the room was locked.

For a moment, I was scared that my question would be met with silence.

'Maybe this was just a hallucination caused by me slowly losing my mind.' I couldn't help but think.

My heart beat sped up and I felt a bit sick.

But my heart immediately calmed down when I heard the familiar voice,

[Yes, Lord Emris.]

'Wow, Lord? That's nice.

"Show me." I said. Immediately, a card appeared before my eyes. It was black and gold and on it was a young lad with grayish-silver hair, hazel eyes and a slender build.

I recognised him, he was me after all.

I turned the card, and on the back was a list of information. I proceeded to read through,

[Host's Exclusive Card]

Host: [Emris Leonis]

Race: [Human]

Bloodline: [None]

Potential: [One star]

Combat Strength: [None]

Skill: [None]

Talent: [Spearmanship(N)(basic)]

Summon Authority: [Activated]

Available Number of Summons: [1]

Achievement points: [10]

Available rewards: Random draw x3, mission card x2, advance card x2.

"Wow, I'm pretty weak."

[It is to be expected, after all, you have a broken core.]

"That's true…" I looked at the card once again, it was just as I thought, this was a card based system. Not that I mind, any cheat was better than no cheat.

"Is there a way to heal my broken core?" I immediately asked.

[There is.] Esfyn replied.

[Lord Emris can heal his core using a flawless healing function card.]

"And how do I get cards?" I asked.

[You can get cards through random draws, or by receiving them as rewards for completing tasks. You can also purchase certain cards using achievement points.]

[You can get a flawless healing card by combining x10 healing cards.]

"I'm guessing I can only gain achievement points by completing missions or tasks."

[That's right, Lord Emris.]

'Hmmm, seems simple enough. Except for the fact that I need a lot of luck for the draws, I can just work my ass off to complete missions and buy the cards I might need….'

Although I have a broken core, ever since I arrived in this world, I've been training. Although it wasn't great at combat and I couldn't even defeat a Tier 1 knight, I knew I could at least stall when push came to shove.

Basically, I wasn't as weak as many thought I was.

'As far as the missions aren't too hard, I should be able to complete them.'

"Well, let's proceed with the card draws." I said.

[The card drawing process will now begin.]

[Drawing twenty seven random cards.]

There was a short pause before black cards suddenly began to appear all around me. They formed a large circle.

[Please proceed to select three cards from the ones available.]

I looked around, all of the cards looked the same no matter where I looked.

'I guess there's no way around it, now I'm truly left to luck…'

My luck has never been my strong point. Or maybe it was, after all, twice on my sixteenth birthday, my wish came true.

I closed my eyes for a moment before randomly selecting the card.

"I'll go with this… this and this…" I tapped three random cards.

The rest of the cards vanished, leaving behind only the three cards. Then, the first card on the left suddenly sets ablaze to reveal the true nature of the card.

[Congratulations, you've gain Equipment card x1]

Before me was a white card with an unusual bronze spear on it. The spear looked like a cross between a spear and a halberd, with three jagged extra teeths close to the head and a pointed end at the bottom.

[Equipment card]

Equipment rarity: [Normal]

Equipment type: [Bronze spear]

Equipment grade: [Basic]

Skills: [None]

I felt the corner of my lip twitch. Even the sword I used for training was a normal weapon of superior grade.

In this world, everything has a grade. Apart from the normal ranking, there is a universal sub ranking system used to determine the quality of something or someone within their level; basic, intermediate, advanced, superior and top-tier.

It was used even among human ranks. Julien was an advanced tier 3 knight while Ayva was a basic tier 3 knight. For someone like Ayva to defeat someone like julien, she would need an obscene amount of skills.

It didn't mean it was impossible though, the tier of a knight is determined based on how developed their core is, not their fighting experience. Although, the amount of one's mana and how developed their core is, plays a significant role in battle.

'I guess it can be useful. I can use it for training, I think I saw a Spearmanship talent.'

Although the talent was of the lowest level, it was better than the non existent swordsmanship talent. This meant that I've been wasting my time practicing using the sword.

If I had used a spear instead, I would have seen better progress.

I tapped the second card and a similar scene occurred. Esfyn's voice sounded in my ears once again,

[Congratulations, you've gained Talent card x1]

'Woah!'

This time, I was quite happy even before checking out the card. The reason was simple, a talent, no matter how useless it may seem, was still a talent.

Take my newly found Spearmanship talent for example, I have been practicing the Leonis martial art scripture since I was seven and the improvements I've seen were very little.

This had nothing to do with my broken core, instead, it was because I had no talent for the sword.

If I didn't have any talents at all, it would have been better, but because I had a talent for a polearm and yet used a sword which is so different, I ended up stalling whatever little growth I should have experienced.

The difference between having talent and not is pretty big. Hence, I was eager to check which talent I received.

This time, the card was green in color. I only just noticed the 'R' symbol at the upper part and I could tell, it was definitely of a higher rank.

'Rare?.....' I felt my heart beat speed up at the prospect. The thrill was intoxicating.

[Talent card]

Talent rarity: [Rare]

Talent type: [Ice jade constitution]

Talent grade: [Basic]

Skills: [Perfect body][Mana resonance]

[Perfect Body]: [You have a perfectly ambidextrous body. Your general physique is also enhanced, tending towards perfection.]

[Mana resonance]: [You have higher Mana affinity.]

'Wow, this seems cool…'

"Esfyn, have I automatically gained this constitution?" I asked.

[No, Lord Emris. You only possess a dormant card. You have to activate the card to gain whatever it contains. Should I activate the card?]

"No, I'll do it later. I don't know the side effects of using it."

[Noted.]

"Then let's reveal the final card."

As usual, the card immediately caught fire and its true form was revealed. This time, I felt a smile bloom on my face as I noticed that this was another rare card.

[Congratulations, you've gained function card x1]

Finally! A function card. I hope it's one that can heal my core. I immediately proceeded to check the information.

[Function card]

Card rarity: [Rare]

Card type: [Third eye awakening]

Use: [This card helps its user awaken their third eye granting them the sixth sense and in rare cases, awakening their mind world]

"This…."

'This can only be described as a jackpot!'
