Chapter 1 - SIDELINED HEART (part 1)

*Title:* "Sidelined Heart

*Chapter 1:

Ethan walked down the hallway, his eyes scanning the crowded corridors. He was lost in thought, replaying the previous night's soccer game in his mind.

As he turned a corner, he collided with a girl, scattering her books and papers everywhere.

"Hey, watch where you're going!" Ethan exclaimed, as he bent to help gather her belongings.

The girl looked up, her bright brown eyes locking onto his. Ethan's heart skipped a beat.

"I'm so sorry," he said, handing her a book.

"It's okay," she replied, smiling faintly. "I'm Ava."

"Ethan," he introduced himself, still holding her gaze.

As they stood up, Ethan noticed Ava's camera slung over her shoulder.

"You're a photographer?" he asked.

Ava nodded. "Yeah, I love capturing moments."

Ethan felt an inexplicable connection to her. "I'd love to see your work sometime."

Ava's cheeks flushed. "Maybe."

Chapter 2:

Ethan's friends, Tyler and Alex, burst into the scene, shouting his name.

"Hey, Ethan! Come on, man! Soccer training awaits!" Tyler yelled.

Ethan hesitated, reluctant to leave Ava's side.

"Just a minute, guys," Ethan replied, turning back to Ava. "It was nice meeting you."

Ava smiled. "You too, Ethan."

As Ethan turned to leave, Ava called out.

"Hey, Ethan?"

He spun around. "Yeah?"

"Good luck with soccer," Ava said, her eyes sparkling.

Ethan grinned. "Thanks. Maybe I'll see you around?"

Ava nodded, and Ethan jogged off to join his friends.

"Who's the mystery girl?" Tyler asked, raising an eyebrow.

Ethan shrugged. "Just someone I bumped into. Ava Morales."

Alex whistled. "Morales? Isn't she that quiet, artsy girl?"

Ethan nodded, feeling a pang of defensiveness.

"Yeah, that's her. What's it to you?"

Tyler chuckled. "Nothing, man. Just wondering what caught your attention."

Ethan's mind lingered on Ava as they headed to soccer training.

Chapter 3:

Ethan limped into the school's first aid office, clutching his injured knee. The soccer match had been intense.

Nurse Thompson examined his knee, shaking her head. "Looks like a minor sprain. You'll need to rest and ice it."

As Ethan settled onto the examination table, he noticed a familiar face – Ava Morales, sitting in the corner, reading a book.

"Ava?" Ethan called out, surprised.

Ava looked up, her eyes widening. "Ethan! What happened?"

"Soccer injury," Ethan replied, wincing.

Ava closed her book and walked over. "Let me help."

Nurse Thompson handed Ava an ice pack. "Help Ethan with this, please."

As Ava gently applied the ice pack to Ethan's knee, their hands touched. Ethan felt a spark.

"Thanks," Ethan said softly.

Ava smiled. "No problem."

Their conversation flowed easily – school, soccer, and shared interests.

Nurse Thompson interrupted, "Ethan, you need to rest. Ava, can you make sure he gets home safely?"

Ava nodded. "I'll walk him."

As they left the office, Ethan leaned on Ava, his injured knee throbbing.

"I'm glad I bumped into you again," Ethan said.

Ava's cheeks flushed. "Me too."

Their eyes locked, and Ethan realized his feelings for Ava went beyond friendship.

Chapter 4:

As Ava walked back home, Ethan's smile lingered in her mind. She couldn't believe how natural it felt to be around him.

"Why do I feel this way?" Ava wondered. "We've only talked twice."

She replayed their conversations, analyzing every word, every gesture.

"Ethan's not just a soccer star; he's kind, genuine, and vulnerable," Ava thought.

Ava's heart skipped a beat as she recalled their hands touching while applying the ice pack.

"Was that electricity just my imagination?"

She pictured Ethan's eyes, warm and gentle, and his effortless charm.

"I feel seen when he looks at me," Ava realized.

Ava's doubts crept in:

"Is this just a crush? Can I really trust him?"

But her instincts whispered:

"Ethan's different. He truly cares."

As Ava entered her home, she couldn't shake off the feeling that her life had changed.

"Maybe this is the start of something special," Ava thought, a smile spreading across her face.

Chapter 5:

Ethan and Ava's relationship blossomed over the next few weeks. They explored the town, attended school events, and studied together. Ethan introduced Ava to his love of soccer, and she cheered him on at games.

Ava's photography skills improved, and Ethan became her favorite subject. They laughed, teased, and supported each other.

As the semester progressed, their connection strengthened. Ethan confided in Ava about his soccer pressures and family expectations. Ava shared her passion for photography and her dreams of traveling.

Their friends noticed the change in them. Tyler and Alex teased Ethan about being "whipped," but Ethan didn't mind.

*Chapter 6:

Six weeks into their relationship, Ethan started to feel overwhelmed. Soccer playoffs loomed, and his coach demanded more practice time. Ethan's grades slipped, and his parents grew concerned.

Ava sensed Ethan's stress and tried to be supportive. However, Ethan began to withdraw, canceling plans and avoiding deep conversations.

Ava felt frustrated and hurt. "Ethan, what's going on? You're distant, and I feel like I'm losing you."

Ethan reassured her, "I'm just stressed, Ava. I need some space."

Ava gave him space, but the distance grew.

*Chapter 7:

Two months into their relationship, Ethan's soccer team made it to the state championships. The pressure mounted, and Ethan's priorities shifted.

At the championship game, Ethan's team won, but he barely acknowledged Ava's congratulations.

That night, at a celebratory party, Ethan's behavior changed. He flirted with other girls, ignoring Ava's attempts to talk.

Ava felt betrayed and hurt. "Ethan, what's going on? You're acting like you're single."

Ethan shrugged. "I'm just celebrating, Ava. Don't be so possessive."

Ava's eyes welled up with tears. "I think we need to take a break."

Ethan agreed, and they parted ways.

*Chapter 8:

Ava struggled to cope with the breakup. Tyler, Ethan's friend, noticed her distress and offered support.

Over coffee, Tyler listened to Ava's tears and frustrations. "You deserve better than someone who doesn't appreciate you," Tyler said.

Ava smiled weakly. "Thanks, Tyler. You're a true friend."
