Inside the laboratory, the dim lights flickered overhead, casting shadows over a sterile glass container filled with a glowing blue liquid that seemed to emit an eternal essence of longing, fear, sadness, hope and love.
Dr. Boris stood beside the container, observing it with a mixture of fascination and pride. "Look at this, Clara," he said. "Have you ever seen anything like this before? It's the reward for all our hard work over the past 15 years. Everything I've done for this project, I've given my whole life to it," Dr. Boris said, mesmerized by his own creation.
"She has exceeded our expectations and has the potential to be our greatest soldier," Dr. Clara replied, her voice a blend of fear and guilt.
"What happened, Clara? Is something wrong ?" asked Dr. Boris.
The emergency alarm sprang into action before Dr. Clara could reply.
*EMERGENCY, EMERGENCY,* a robotic voice announced. "Failed subjects are attacking security personnel and other scientists," it continued. "Please proceed immediately to the forbidden section I 0f the lab; it's the only safe place right now."
"What? Section I of the lab? Isn't that a forbidden place to go?" a junior scientist breathed out slowly in section C of the lab, while trying to hide from the subjects going berserk like zombies all over the lab. The person beside him clenched his fist around the fabric, grabbing his collar with anger and fear in his eyes. He raised his voice, "We are going to die even if we stay here. Do you want to wait here for death or try to go to the forbidden area?" He lowered his voice and added, "Even if there is a one percent chance to survive."
There was nothing else to say. They both hurried down the corridor towards section I of the lab, their hearts racing as they fled from the approaching zombie-like creatures. Along the way, they passed lifeless bodies of their colleagues and security personnel, scattered all over the floor in silence. The air was heavy with the metallic scent of blood, which stained the walls and floors throughout the entire lab, explaining the haunting chaos that had just unfolded.
When they reached Section I of the lab, there was already chaos outside the gate. Scientists were fighting and shouting, desperate to gain entry, but the doors remained closed. Section I was where Dr. Boris and were from the start; only they were allowed inside.
"Sir, should we let them enter this place? They're all going to die out there," Dr. Clara asked Dr. Boris. But when she looked at his face, it was one of the most horrific expressions she had ever seen. There was no sign of fear; instead, a scary sense of pride and ego radiated from him. He looked at his creation with a chilling smile, as if nothing else mattered in the world.
Clara shouted again, "Dr. Boris, are you even listening? What should we do about all the people dying outside?"
"This world is bigger than you think, Clara. There are many things you don't know about," he replied calmly. "All the screams outside are just a small part of it. If you're so worried about them, then open the door. I won't say a single word to you."
"But... they will see the VOID," Clara replied hesitantly.
"Let them see my creation. All these years I've hidden her because she wasn't ready, but now there's no need," Dr. Boris said with pride.
As soon as Dr. Boris spoke, Clara rushed to the door. With trembling hands, she scanned her fingerprint and opened it.
The crowd, covered in blood, flooded into the room, scrambling over each other in urgency.
"The subjects are already here! Move quickly!" Clara screamed, but it was too late; she had to close the door before half of them could enter. The rest were left outside, now part of the massacre unfolding there
Those who managed to enter the room breathed heavily, having witnessed death up close. Before they could relax, Dr. Boris began lecturing them, "What were you all doing when this happened? Use the special bullets designed to kill those subjects."
"Sir, we tried, but those bullets aren't working on them. They keep moving no matter what," one of them shouted. "What were you doing, Dr. Boris? Hiding in this room, leaving us to die out there?"
"Lower your voice, Raffaele. She is sleeping," Dr. Boris replied calmly, still fixated on the container, his eyes locked on his creation.
"What? Who is sleeping?" Dr. Raffaele asked, following Boris's gaze to the glowing bluish container. As he approached, it emitted an enormous amount of life force. Wiping his glasses and peering closer, he saw a beautiful girl inside the container.
Before he could say anything
*EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY!* The robotic voices began to cry out again.
"What now? What's happening? Are we all going to die?" The crowd started to panic, their emotions running high, unease etched on their faces.
"Everyone, please calm down. It's safe here. No one else is going to die," Clara tried to reassure everyone, though her eyes betrayed herself.
"INTRUDERS! INTRUDERS! The king's army is here! We are under attack!" the voice announced.
The news left everyone in shock. Amid the chaos, a little girl inside a container opened her eyes for the first time. Void opened her eyes. As she did, every drop of liquid touching her turned dark. She saw the world for the first time, seeing through the darkness. A man in a white shirt and glasses tried to speak to her, but his words were muffled. "Run, Void," he said with concern. Around him were people running to save themselves.
"Void, it's me, your mom. I'm sorry for everything you've faced, and everything you will face. I know you can't understand now, but it's okay. One day, when everything falls into place, you'll understand how selfish I was. Always remember, Void, there is nothing true in this world." A voice whispered gently in her ear. The voice was familiar, comforting, making her feel weightless, yet she couldn't see anyone. Just people cutting through metal walls with lasers to get into the room. She heard nothing but screams, and then suddenly, silence. Her eyes grew heavy, and she could only hear voices.
"Look, we've found the girl."
"What happened to her eyes? Get her to the doctor, quickly."
"Hey kid, can you hear us?"
"Open your eyes."
That was the last thing she remembered
