Chapter 145 - Chapter 145: The Struggle for the Eight-Tails

"You're not using that shuriken formed from spacetime power to counter my attacks? Could it be that your ocular power is already too drained?" Nagato's eyes narrowed as the colossal wooden figure beneath him stepped forward, its enormous fists swinging toward Uchiha Akira.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The clash of the two titanic figures sent tremors rippling across the battlefield. Even the Konoha shinobi several kilometers away could feel the earth quake beneath their feet.

Their view was obstructed by the thick barrier of trees conjured by the Wood Release Secret Technique: Nativity of a World of Trees technique, leaving them unable to see the fierce battle raging inside.

Sarutobi Hiruzen turned toward Hyūga Kaori. Despite his frailty, his tone was firm as he asked,

"Kaori, what's happening over there?"

Hyūga Kaori's face was etched with shock as she replied, "That man called Nagato has turned against Kumogakure. The Two-Tails, Matatabi, was devoured by one of his summoned beasts! The Eight-Tails is gravely injured and appears to have lost consciousness."

"And now? What's happening now?" a Uchiha Jōnin asked anxiously.

Earlier, they had witnessed two fully realized Susanoo figures soaring through the air. One had suddenly shattered, and the other descended heavily to the ground.

"Nagato is using the legendary Wood Release: Wood Human Technique of the First Hokage to fight Akira!" Kaori said, still struggling to believe her own words.

"What? Are you certain?" Sarutobi Hiruzen pressed, his expression grave.

"According to the records of the Hyūga Clan, it matches the description of the Wood Release: Wood Human Technique—a monstrous construct clad in a wooden dragon, with a terrifying visage and a size rivaling that of a complete Susanoo," Kaori explained.

"Akira isn't at a disadvantage, is he?" the Uchiha clan members asked, their voices filled with worry.

The appearance of the Wood Human Technique brought back unpleasant memories. Long ago, Uchiha Madara had used his complete Susanoo to battle Senju Hashirama's Wood Human Technique, only to fall short.

Now, history seemed to be repeating itself, and the Uchiha couldn't help but fear the outcome.

"No, he isn't," Kaori reassured them, shaking her head. "That Nagato seems highly wary of Akira's ocular techniques and is avoiding close combat with his complete Susanoo."

Hearing her words, everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief.

For them, Akira was their unshakable pillar of strength. As long as he was unharmed, victory for Konoha was within reach.

As Kaori had noted, Nagato indeed tread cautiously while battling Akira's complete Susanoo.

Spacetime techniques were the pinnacle of offensive power in the shinobi world, capable of bypassing nearly any defense—even the Wood Human.

Thus, every move Nagato made was calculated and precise.

"Wood Style: Advent of a World of Flowering Trees!"

Standing atop the Wood Human, Nagato clasped his hands together. Massive tree roots erupted from the ground, spreading in all directions and quickly covering the battlefield.

These roots moved like living creatures, relentlessly attacking Akira's complete Susanoo.

However, under the effect of Kamui's intangibility, Akira's Susanoo seemed to phase out of existence, rendering all of Nagato's attacks futile.

"As expected, he can still use that ocular technique known as Kamui," Nagato thought grimly. His eyes flicked briefly toward Tendo Hanzo in the distance.

Under his cover, Hanzo was already moving toward the Eight-Tails.

Nagato's true objective wasn't the destruction of Konoha—it was to capture as many Tailed Beasts as possible.

"So the Eight-Tails is your target?" Akira had already noticed Hanzo's actions. Without hesitation, he directed his Susanoo toward the Eight-Tails.

While Kamui's activation speed was formidable, it wasn't instantaneous. Against someone of Hanzo's caliber, it left room for escape via Body Flicker.

"You're not getting past me!" Nagato's eyes blazed as he manipulated the battlefield. The tree roots writhed like massive serpents, coiling toward Akira's Susanoo to bind it.

But the intangible Susanoo allowed the roots to pass harmlessly through.

"Damn it… If it's come to this, I'll see it through to the end!" Nagato's resolve hardened as he directed the Wood Human to close in, launching relentless physical attacks against the Susanoo.

Meanwhile, Hanzo reached the Eight-Tails and pressed a hand to the ground.

"Summoning Jutsu: Gedo Statue!"

With a thunderous roar, the Gedo Statue—towering even over the Eight-Tails—materialized on the battlefield.

The moment it appeared, ethereal chains shot from its mouth, wrapping around the Eight-Tails and dragging it toward the statue's maw.

Akira wouldn't stand by and let the Eight-Tails be taken.

His Susanoo spread its wings and soared into the sky. In its hands, spiraling shuriken forged from spacetime energy began to manifest.

With a motion as swift as it was deadly, the Kamui Shuriken rained down like a storm upon the battlefield, targeting both the Gedo Statue and the Eight-Tails.

"Banshō Ten'in!"

"Shinra Tensei!"

Nagato and Hanzo moved simultaneously.

Nagato's Banshō Ten'in tried to drag Akira, while Hanzo's Shinra Tensei created a repelling force to deflect the shuriken.

However, Akira's intangibility nullified Banshō Ten'in, leaving him unaffected.

The Kamui Shuriken struck Hanzo's repelling barrier, creating countless swirling vortexes in the air.

Nagato's eyes widened. The shuriken hadn't all arrived at once—some were deliberately staggered.

As he feared, moments later, another wave of shuriken pierced through, severing the chains binding the Eight-Tails.

The Gedo Statue's grip weakened, and the Eight-Tails let out a defiant roar, thrashing violently.

Nagato quickly performed hand seals.

"Wood Style...!"

With a resounding crash, massive wooden hands erupted from the ground, encircling the Eight-Tails and the Gedo Statue. These hands reached skyward, attempting to swat down Akira's Susanoo.

High above, Akira wielded his Susanoo's blade, slashing through the wooden appendages while phasing through others with Kamui.

Once again, the Gedo Statue spewed chains, tightening its grip on the Eight-Tails as it pulled the beast closer to its maw.
