Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: Speculations on Awakening the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan

"Haha…"

Akira laughed heartily, watching Obito's lifeless face, frozen in disbelief. After a while, Akira exhaled deeply, finally feeling a sense of satisfaction.

"At last… things are finally taking a different turn."

This was the biggest change he had influenced so far—one of the masterminds in the shadows was now dead by his hand.

"With Obito gone, a hidden threat has been neutralized!" Akira was in a great mood as he reached down to take both of Obito's eyes.

Yes, Obito had both eyes, though only the right one was his Mangekyō Sharingan. His left eye had merely been used as fodder for casting Izanagi. Caught off guard during Akira's ambush within the Kamui dimension, Obito had no chance to weave signs or activate Izanagi in time.

Akira placed the left eye in a container and then replaced his own eye with Obito's right Mangekyō.

"What a shame," he muttered as he finished the procedure, a tinge of disappointment in his voice.

"The experiment to transplant Hashirama's cells hasn't yielded any breakthrough yet. Without those cells, I can't use Kamui as freely as Obito did."

Without Hashirama's cells, Akira knew he couldn't use Kamui extensively. If he tried to rely on it like Obito had, he'd go blind in no time.

"Oh well, better save it for emergencies," Akira thought, glancing back at Obito's corpse. An idea sparked. "Half of Obito's body is made up of Hashirama's cells… I should take it back to the research team and see if they can glean anything useful from it."

Akira unsealed a scroll, placing Obito's headless corpse inside. As for the head, he incinerated it on the spot.

"With Obito out of the way, my next objective is to awaken my own Mangekyō Sharingan." Within the Kamui dimension, Akira fell into deep thought.

To acquire the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, one must first awaken a Mangekyō Sharingan of their own. Even if he transplanted another pair, he could never gain the Eternal Mangekyō without his own base.

Only by using his own Mangekyō as a foundation could he merge it with another and gain the eternal light. So Obito's Mangekyō would only serve as material for the fusion process, much like how Sasuke had merged his with Itachi's.

This understanding had come from the sacred stone tablet he'd read in the Uchiha shrine. Interestingly, the tablet specified that the Eternal Mangekyō didn't require the eyes of a blood relative—any Mangekyō pair could theoretically be used.

However, achieving the Eternal Mangekyō was a perilous process. In Uchiha history, many had attempted it, but only Madara had succeeded. According to the original story, only Madara and Sasuke had managed it.

The two successful cases shared notable similarities: they each transplanted a sibling's Mangekyō and were reincarnations of Indra.

The tablet suggested that the key to awakening the Eternal Mangekyō lay not in the blood relation of the donor but in the presence of Indra's chakra. Akira speculated that only Indra's reincarnations could truly awaken it, which meant he would need Indra's power to succeed.

Of course, it was possible that the sharing of blood did matter or that both conditions were required. Still, Akira trusted the information on the tablet—if the tablet didn't specify the need for a blood relation, then it likely wasn't crucial.

Despite Black Zetsu's tampering, Akira believed the tablet contained vital truths about the Rinnegan's awakening, so he doubted Black Zetsu would fabricate information here. After all, Black Zetsu was aware of the requirements for awakening the Rinnegan, he likely expected the Eternal Mangekyō to be unlocked only by Indra's reincarnation.

For Akira, achieving the Eternal Mangekyō was one of his most crucial goals. Once successful, he'd be able to handle most of Konoha's threats with ease.

"The Eternal Mangekyō can wait for now. My first priority is figuring out how to awaken my own Mangekyō Sharingan," Akira reminded himself.

He knew that awakening a Mangekyō required intense emotional trauma, either positive or negative. But as a transmigrator, Akira couldn't think of anything in this world capable of stirring him so deeply.

Frankly, Akira didn't feel that anyone's loss or any event could bring him to the emotional threshold necessary for the Sharingan's evolution.

"Still… perhaps there's a way around it." He mused. "With the Spiritual Transformation Technique, I can split off a blank mental entity… I could implant memories into it, stage a realistic tragedy…"

After pondering for a while, Akira decided on a plan involving the Spiritual Transformation Technique. This technique allowed the splitting of one's spirit, a task he could manage with relative ease.

To gain the Mangekyō, Akira was willing to endure some spiritual damage. Plus, the damage was reversible, once he reabsorbed the spirit fragment, he'd be restored.

"I'll have to plan this carefully. The Sharingan reflects the spirit, and the dojutsu it grants mirrors the emotions felt at its awakening. I need to be cautious with the memories and scenario I create—otherwise, I might end up with something useless like Amaterasu or Tsukuyomi."

He shuddered at the thought of awakening Amaterasu or Kagutsuchi. Amaterasu was a simple attack—if his target wore enough armor, they could just shed it and escape. And Kagutsuchi? It was little more than a fire show, controlling Amaterasu's shape. Not even worth looking at.

Tsukuyomi was somewhat better, but it was still limited. Later in battles, it was mostly useful for flashy displays rather than serious combat.

To Akira, Amaterasu wasn't fit for battle at all—it was far more suited for teaching. Being able to control the time flow in an illusionary world at will… using it for combat would just be a waste.
