During his second week at the academy, Lucian was wandering through the academy grounds when he heard a commotion by the palace gate nearby. Curiosity piqued, he made his way over, finding a royal carriage surrounded by soldiers and townspeople.
Then he saw her: the princess of Arlanor, Princess Elise. She was a vision of grace and beauty, with her delicate features and a regal air that commanded respect. But her serene expression quickly shifted as a dark figure leapt out from the shadows—a demon, its twisted form and dark aura unmistakable.
The crowd gasped, backing away in terror as the demon advanced. Soldiers unsheathed their swords, but the creature was far too powerful for mere steel. Lucian sensed its strength, realizing it was a high-ranking demon from his own realm.
Princess Elise stumbled back, her eyes wide with fear, and the soldiers faltered, unsure of what to do.
Lucian stepped forward, calm and composed, catching the demon's attention. The creature's eyes locked onto him, and it paused, sniffing the air as if recognizing something.
"My… my king?" it whispered, its voice trembling.
Lucian narrowed his eyes, his voice low and commanding. "Leave now, or suffer the consequences."
The demon's eyes widened in terror. Recognizing the authority of the former Demon King, it dropped to its knees, its fear palpable.
"Forgive me, my king," it murmured, before dissolving into smoke and disappearing.
The crowd watched, stunned and silent, unsure of what had just happened. Princess Elise's eyes met Lucian's, filled with gratitude and disbelief.
"You… saved me," she said, her voice trembling slightly.
Lucian gave a respectful bow. "It was my duty, Your Highness. Are you unharmed?"
She nodded, a slight blush coloring her cheeks. "Thank you… I owe you my life."
As the princess was escorted back to the palace, Lucian felt the System prompt him.
