Chapter 8 - Chapter 08

After hanging up the phone, David just sat there, silent and contemplative. When the distant rumble of cars and ambulances shattered the silence, his heart didn't skip a beat. He felt... empty, like something was missing inside him. There should be a sense of victory or satisfaction, but all he felt was indifference, like the world was moving on without him.

David stared at his slightly trembling right hand, still feeling the sensation of unlimited power flowing through his body. But there was something weird. Every time he pressed that control button, every time he used that power, there was a part of him that felt more isolated, further from reality. Even though he could control everything, he felt like nothing was truly under control within him.

The world out there, once filled with rules and boundaries, now seemed fragile, easily manipulated to his will. But why did his heart still feel empty? What was truly lost after all this power?

He stood up and walked to the window, gazing at the sparkling city under the night lights. His mind drifted back to that woman—every endless complaint, all the unreasonable demands that made his life feel more like a prison. But after what happened tonight, after he could control everything, what more was there to desire?

Maybe this is what freedom is called. But limitless freedom only made him feel more trapped than ever. There was something broken inside him, something darker emerging as time passed.

David took a deep breath, trying to relax his tense body. Just then, the system's voice waiting for orders sounded again, cold and powerful.

[Body Control System: Alert. System waiting for orders.]

David looked at his phone screen still lying on the table. He checked the client numbers that came into his contact list, the woman's face still vivid in his mind. A wild urge surged within him—to test further, to push further beyond limits, to see how far he could control others.

"Can I control a body without consciousness? like a corpse?"

The Body Control System responded,

[Body Control System: Warning. Controlling an actively unconscious body, like a corpse, is very difficult and risky. The dead nervous system cannot be accessed in the same way. Motor functions and body responses cannot be programmed or controlled as with a living body. Accessing a dead nervous system can result in system failure or body destruction. This process is not recommended.]

David fell silent for a moment, digesting the warning that just appeared on the screen. The system's voice sounded more serious this time, weighed down. He realized that even with his immense power, there were limits that could not be breached easily. A deep curiosity inside him tried to push away that fear, but something stood in the way.

"So, I can't just control a corpse like that..." he murmured softly, his eyes fixed on the phone screen still emitting cold light. "But if that body still has some consciousness left, is that possible?"

The system's voice sounded again, this time without further warning.

[Body Control System: Controlling a body with minimal or almost no consciousness can still be done, but the results are very limited. A damaged nervous system will add difficulty in sending commands with high precision. The risk of losing control or permanent damage to the body is significant.]

David sighed deeply, realizing that even with his nearly limitless power, there were still constraints binding him. He felt trapped, as if the world that once seemed full of possibilities now was full of warnings and insurmountable obstacles. Nevertheless, the thirst for control still burned within him.

He decided to postpone the experiment with the corpse, at least for now. Maybe there was another way to surpass these limitations. But something else grabbed his attention: what if he tested the limits of this system's abilities with a living body, but with minimal consciousness?

"In that case, I must find another way," David thought, as the feeling of dissatisfaction enveloped him more and more.
