**Chapter Fourteen: The Warg Chase and the Hidden Valley**The Company pushed on through the forest as the howls of the Wargs grew nearer. Taranis's heart raced, excitement and tension mingling as he glanced around for their attackers. He knew his lightning ability could fend off a few Wargs, but the sheer number he sensed was daunting."Gandalf!" Taranis called, gripping *Anguirel* tightly. "Where are we headed?""To a hidden valley," Gandalf replied, sparing a quick look back. "If we can make it past this ridge, Rivendell lies ahead. The Elves there will offer us safe refuge."Thorin scowled at the mention of Elves, his jaw clenched. "I'd sooner face these beasts than rely on Elvish hospitality," he muttered under his breath, glancing away."Really?" Taranis asked, genuinely curious. "I always thought Elves would make powerful allies."Thorin shot him a hard look. "Allies? Elves care nothing for us or our troubles. They abandoned my people when we needed them most," he said bitterly. "I trust them about as far as I can throw them."Taranis raised an eyebrow, realizing that Thorin's distrust ran deep. "Alright then," he replied, determined to keep things focused. "But for now, we have to make it out of here alive. I'll take an Elf's help over becoming Warg food."As they hurried through the woods, the underbrush rustled ominously, and suddenly, a pack of Wargs burst into the clearing, snarling and snapping. The Company formed a defensive line, weapons raised.Taranis grinned, excitement lighting up his face. "Finally, a chance to test my lightning against something that deserves it!""Focus, Taranis!" Gandalf warned, his eyes scanning the treetops. "Stand your ground, but don't get reckless."One of the Wargs lunged at Bilbo, its fangs bared. Taranis reacted instantly, stepping between the creature and the hobbit. With a quick movement, he struck out with *Anguirel*, his blade crackling with a burst of electricity that surged through the Warg, sending it stumbling back with a yelp."Thanks!" Bilbo gasped, clearly shaken."Don't mention it," Taranis replied, grinning. "And stay close—I've got more lightning where that came from."But more Wargs emerged, circling them hungrily. Taranis unleashed his second lightning strike, stunning one of the beasts long enough for Thorin to cut it down."Not bad for a lightning trick," Thorin grunted, grudgingly nodding in approval. "But they just keep coming."As the Wargs tightened their circle, Gandalf suddenly slammed his staff into the ground, his voice rising in a powerful chant. A bright light burst forth, momentarily confusing the Wargs and giving the Company a precious few seconds."This way!" Gandalf shouted, leading them toward a narrow path that wound through dense foliage. Taranis ushered Bilbo along, his adrenaline spiking. "Come on! I'll keep the beasts distracted!"Once they were through the gap in the trees, they found themselves in a serene valley, its quietness a stark contrast to the battle moments before. Taranis gazed around, awe and disbelief filling him as he took in the peaceful beauty of Rivendell."Is this...Rivendell?" he murmured, his eyes wide. "I've never seen anything like it.""Trust me, the sight isn't as welcoming as it seems," Thorin muttered, his face hard as he surveyed the Elven architecture. "Elves may look impressive, but they can't be trusted."Gandalf ignored Thorin's grumbling, his eyes alight with a quiet satisfaction. "The Elves here will protect us, Thorin, whether you like it or not."At that moment, Elrond himself appeared, his gaze calm and wise as he looked over the weary Company. "Welcome, Gandalf. Thorin Oakenshield," he said, inclining his head slightly. His gaze lingered on Taranis and *Anguirel*, noting the ancient sword at Taranis's side. Taranis offered a respectful nod. "Taranis Storm, at your service," he said. "Thank you for allowing us to stay."Elrond's eyes flickered with recognition as he took in the weapon. "An ancient blade," he noted quietly. "One I haven't seen in many years. It will serve you well on this journey.""Your praise is...appreciated," Thorin interjected stiffly, clearly uncomfortable. He shot Gandalf a look as if to say, *I'll trust them, but only because I have no choice.*Taranis glanced between them, picking up on the tension. "I guess Elves and Dwarves don't exactly get along, huh?" he asked, trying to lighten the mood."That's putting it mildly," Gandalf replied with a wry smile. "But for now, they share a common cause."Elrond nodded, his expression thoughtful. "Tonight, you are safe here. Take this time to rest."As they were led deeper into Rivendell, Taranis found himself marveling at their surroundings. He couldn't help but wonder at his luck, finding himself in such a place. Even Thorin's obvious discomfort couldn't dampen his excitement."Say what you want about Elves, Thorin," Taranis said quietly as they entered the grand hall, "but I have a feeling this place will help us in ways we can't even see yet."Thorin grunted, clearly unconvinced. "Just remember, Taranis, appearances can be deceiving. Especially when it comes to Elves."Taranis gave a small smile, wondering just what other surprises awaited them on this journey. He couldn't wait to find out.
