Chereads / Craving Scarecrow / Chapter 4 - Treachery

Chapter 4 - Treachery

Time starts flowing again, and he sees people surrounding him. Before he can speak, they begin punching and kicking him.

"Are you okay? Should we call an ambulance?" A woman hugs the girl.

"Please save me! He brought me here forcefully. He tried to assault me, even though I told him I don't like him." Another woman gives her water.

"Poor girl, don't cry. You must be scared. We are here with you." Another woman hugs her.

All the mothers present there were taking their children out of the park.

"Mom, what's happening there?" A little kid looks at his mother with curious eyes.

"There is a monster there. Don't be like him, okay?" The mother says while moving faster.

All the other children are also trying to look in that direction, but the mothers are trying their best not to show it to them. They are also moving away.

"No, everything is a lie. Please! I am begging you. I could never do something like that. Please listen to me, please!" Livio cries and begs people to at least listen to him.

"How dare you! I think he's making excuses." One adult man kicks Livio in the face, and Livio starts bleeding from his lips.

"I think he was planning to play the victim!" While people are beating Livio like an animal, someone is recording videos.

"I got his wallet, damn it! He's a student." Then he kicks Livio in the head, and Livio's head crashes on the bench, starting to bleed from there as well.

The girl drinks water from the bottle.

"Please! I think he's going to kill me."

"Don't worry, nothing will happen to a princess like you!" The woman hugs her again to comfort her.

"The university shouldn't take students like this!" Someone stomps on Livio's back.

"Call his parents, I can't believe they gave birth to a freak like him." The person starts kicking Livio again.

After hearing that, Livio starts remembering his parents and their sacrifices.

Everything flashes right before his eyes.....his mother's crying face, his father's proud smile, and all their sacrifices for him.

"No, please! Don't call my parents, please. If you want to punish someone, punish me. My parents have not done anything. So, please, I am begging you, don't involve them." Livio gathers his strength and kneels before them.

"Ahn! Why should we listen to a monster like you? You piece of shit." Then everyone starts beating him again.

The pain is too much. Livio feels it intensely. His vision blurs, and the world around him begins to fade.

He slowly begins to lose strength. When he looks at the girl through the gaps between people's legs, she gives a grin while looking at Livio. All the women comforting her are also watching the crowd beat him. After smiling, she hugs the woman again and resumes crying.

As Livio feels hazy, the voices around him slowly fade.

He slowly stops feeling the beating as well, a soft cold thing touching his wrist. After some time, he feels like he is flying. Then he feels little comfort, as if sleeping in the middle of a park, on beautiful grass, and under a beautiful sky.

When he opens his eyes, he is unable to see anything.

After his eyes adjust, he sees a flickering bulb. When he looks around, he finds himself between walls with an iron gate in front of him. He wakes up and sits on his bed, then realizes that he is inside a lockup.

He feels really guilty and starts cursing himself again.

"What happened? Why am I so miserable? Is my life continuing in hell? How can I face my mother and father? Sigh! I think a loser like me doesn't even deserve a second chance." Tears come out of his eyes.

Livio sleeps on the bed again and looks at the ceiling.

"Come to think of it, my life has been nothing but a failure. When my friends were enjoying their lives, I was just watching. I was too scared to do anything. I was not afraid of the result, I was afraid of the people. What would they think? I let them manipulate me. The thing I was most afraid of finally happened to me. Even though I am innocent, nobody listened to me. Why did the girl do that? Is my life nothing but a toy to her? Is she that heartless, or am I just getting what I deserve? I never helped anyone, though I had the opportunity. But I was afraid of what people would think of me. I was just a coward. No, I am still a coward. I am too fixated on the result, but I am afraid of the struggle. In the end, what is happening to me now is nothing but karma. Please! Just don't involve my parents, I am begging you. God! If you are there, just listen to my request this one time!"

Then Livio wipes his tears away. While deep in regret, Livio hears footsteps approaching.

Livio wakes up from the bed as the footsteps get closer and heavier. He feels scared and nervous. He looks outside the gate, and the person's shadow gets bigger.

He feels like there is a devil coming inside a human mask.

Then an officer appears and stops in front of Livio's cell.

"Livio! Is that correct?" The officer speaks with a calm voice.

Livio slowly goes to the gate.

"Yes, I am Livio."

"How are you feeling? Is your pain gone?" The officer takes out a bunch of keys.

"Feeling a little better after the rest!" Livio looks at the officer with tears in his eyes.

"We need to talk. Let's go!" The officer opens Livio's gate.

"Okay!" Livio leaves his cell and follows the officer.

Livio is scared. He can't believe anyone anymore, but he doesn't have a choice.

They travel through a tunnel, which looks like a road from World War bunkers. There is light on both sides of the tunnel.

"These are made of a special material that absorbs Prabhavali," the officer's voice becomes heavy as he walks forward.

"Prabhavali? What is that?" Livio speaks in a calm but nervous voice.

"Sigh! You will know soon enough." The officer opens the door to a room and enters inside.

The room is a little shady. The hanging light from the ceiling catches Livio's attention. Livio gets more nervous. A small but beautiful sound resonates in Livio's ears.

The sound pulls his attention, momentarily distracting him from the tension building in the room.

He then turns his face toward the wall, where there is a laptop with a pendrive.

Livio watches the pendrive for some time because it produces a beautiful pattern of light.

"Come in!" The officer invites Livio inside.

After entering the room, Livio stands there.

"Sit!" The officer orders him.

Livio then sits in front of the officer, with a table separating them.

Livio feels a little uncomfortable, then slowly gathers courage and starts talking.

"Sir, I didn't do anything to her. Please! Believe me. She is framing...." Livio talks quickly.

Before he completes his sentence, the cop puts his hand on Livio's shoulder.

"Calm down. You are safe here. Take a deep breath and try to relax."

Livio takes a deep breath and feels a little comfortable.

"I know your story. In the modern age, many girls frame the innocent. Some do this for money, some do this for fun, and some do this to blackmail," the officer says while looking at his phone.

"But I don't have money. Why would she want to blackmail me? It's not like I can do something for her." Livio stands up from his seat.

"I am sorry! I got excited." Livio takes his seat again.

"It's alright." The officer looks away.

Livio then feels really happy because someone there understands that he is not a criminal.

"Thank you!" Livio then bows over the table.

He looks really happy.

"Everything is ready. Please, ma'am, come in," the officer stands up from his seat.

Livio then turns around to see who it is. The door slowly opens, and the light now glows perfectly. A woman enters the room wearing a knee-high skirt and a black top. She is none other than the girl who framed Livio.

"Welcome, ma'am." The officer says this with a polite voice.

The woman gives a warm smile with closed eyes and tilts her head to the right. Livio tries to figure out what is going on. He is scared.

The woman then takes a step and vanishes behind the officer.

"I told you, behave properly, you idiot!" She slams the officer's head onto the table.

A woman stands at the edge of the building, sunlight highlighting the deep green coat. Crimson and black patterns, with bold squares and intricate lines, wrap around the sleeves and hem, inspired by tribal craft. The geometric borders flow like rivers along the front, blending tradition with the coat's sharp structure. Her matching cap mirrors the design, with red and black motifs framing the brim. Blonde eyes narrowed against the sun, she gazes ahead, ready to move forward. "She's going too far," The woman murmurs, as she steps on without hesitation while looking at the prison in which Livio is kept.

She looks away. "I will let you think everything is going according to your plan."
