"Do you have a floor plan of the library?"
Dark took out his House Card and infused it with magic.
The House Card sensed his thoughts and displayed the library's floor plan on its surface.
The library of St. Marian Academy has only one floor, but each bookshelf is terrifyingly tall.
The academy uses physical isolation to place more profound books higher up.
Without the ability to fly, one simply cannot reach those profound books.
But Dark's familiar has wings—that's an advantage!
Although familiars are meant to replace "owls," most students' familiars do not have wings and cannot fly, which is quite embarrassing.
Dark found the area marked with [Familiar] on the library's floor plan and immediately walked over.
The difference between familiars and ordinary magic spirits is that they can exist outside the Magic Card for a long time without consuming the owner's magic.
Magic spirits, on the other hand, have a time limit on their existence, no matter how powerful they are.
Once this time limit is exceeded, they start consuming their own magic until it reaches zero, at which point they disappear.
Moreover, the intelligence level of magic spirits is 2, half a level lower than that of familiars, belonging to the inferior golem level.
Due to the sheer size of the library, even with the floor plan, it took Dark nearly ten minutes to find the bookshelf labeled [Familiar].
This entire bookshelf is filled with materials related to familiars!
"Do I have to start searching on my own from here?"
Dark couldn't help but look up.
The bookshelf was so high it seemed to reach the clouds.
He even wanted to describe it as "towering into the clouds"!
Just this one bookshelf alone holds an unknown number of books!
"How am I supposed to find anything? Do I have to go back and ask the librarian?"
"Do I really have to risk a grade penalty just to do homework?"
Dark was determined not to suffer this loss!
So he calmed down and prepared to search from the bottom up.
The Little Demon Beast belongs to the demon species, so he only needed to look for books related to demon species.
But he quickly realized that the books on this shelf were all titles like "Special Magic Spirits—Familiars," "Stories of Familiars and Spirits," "Beginner's Guide to Creating Familiars," and "0 Key Points to Learn for Creating Familiars"!
"Could it be that I'm looking in the wrong place?"
Dark realized that his thinking might have fallen into a trap.
Information about the Little Demon Beast shouldn't be found in the [Familiar] section but rather in the Magic Card or Magic Spirit section!
And it's best to find something with a comprehensive index like "Spirit Compendium"!
Once he figured this out, Dark was decisive and immediately opened his House Card to search for the Magic Spirit section!
The bookshelves labeled [Magic Spirit] stretched for dozens of rows!
"Great, now I can't see the top or the end..."
Dark sighed and began the long search.
...
After spending a full half-hour, Dark found a book titled "Into the Abyss" tucked away in a corner among thousands of books!
His almost despairing heart suddenly came alive, and he quickly pulled out this two-finger-thick book and flipped through it.
There was an index!
Starting from the second page was the index, recording thousands of demons!
Dark didn't take the book to the reading room but stood right in front of the bookshelf to read it.
Flipping back to the first page, a short sentence caught his eye.
"Into the abyss, gaze into the abyss."
Dark intended to skip it, but suddenly his vision blurred, and the line of text began to shake and then transformed into another language he had never seen but could understand.
"This method... is it Ancient Script?"
Ancient Script is a type of encrypted magic text used by ancient demons to pass down knowledge.
This magic text is very special, with encryption levels from -2, requiring a corresponding sequence of demon bloodlines to understand.
In this world, it is a unique encryption method!
Dark didn't know which sequence his bloodline ranked in, nor did he know the encryption level of this magic text.
But that didn't stop him from understanding the line.
"Clear the fog, see the truth, the full moon will guide you."
...
Dark blinked, then chuckled and turned directly to the index page.
He then found the demon species compendium named [Little Demon Beast] according to the alphabetical order.
After all, it was just a first-year, first-class assignment, and Dark suspected that Professor Silf just wanted them to learn how to find information in the library.
Because this compendium clearly detailed the information about the Little Demon Beast, just copying it would complete the assignment.
He took out paper and pen and quickly took notes.
The Little Demon Beast belongs to the demon species, dark attribute, and in the demon sequence, it is part of the [Twelfth Sequence: Familiar], the lowest sequence of inferior demons.
The compendium describes it as trash among demons, a vile imp, with no power but fond of scheming, adept at flattering higher demons, surviving in the demon world by groveling.
No higher species!
If it were a magic spirit.
The Little Demon Beast's level is one star, magic power 00, attack and defense stats are both 00, and its special move is a [Small Dart] that projects a giant syringe to draw the opponent's blood, consuming 50 magic power.
[Little Demon Beast]
As a familiar, the Little Demon Beast's attack and defense stats are fixed at double 00, magic power 00, no special move, but it has a speed bonus for flying and comes with the familiar-exclusive skill [Tracking].
Basically, most familiars have these stats, excelling at sending and receiving letters, able to replace owls or cuckoo birds.
Dark quickly finished taking notes and nonchalantly returned the book "Into the Abyss" to the shelf.
Then he picked up a "Magic Spirit Anthology" nearby and walked into the reading room.
There were no assignments for Magic Class or Potion Class, so the time from this afternoon until bedtime was free.
Freshmen liked to wander around the academy after finishing their homework or play some games in the common room.
Some preferred to rush their homework after having fun.
Dark had no interest in exploring the castle or socializing too much, so the library was probably the most suitable place for him.
He used the teapot in the corner to pour a cup of specially blended tea with a neutralized aroma, placed it on a table in the corner, and then opened the "Magic Spirit Anthology," flipping through it with the mindset of reading an entertainment magazine.
Dark deeply felt that this laid-back lifestyle suited him best.
In the vast St. Marian Academy, there was only this small corner that could give him some peace.
Very nice.
The Sin Index not only didn't increase but also reduced a bit of [Wrath] and [Sloth].
