Chapter 2 - The Persistent Cuddlefluff

The grand library of Becktham stood as a testament to centuries of knowledge and secrets, its towering shelves filled with ancient tomes and mystical artifacts. The air was thick with the scent of old parchment, and the dim light filtering through stained glass windows cast long shadows across the polished wooden floors.

Quinn moved silently through the aisles, her keen eyes scanning the spines of books in search of any information that could lead her to the lost silencer relic. Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and strategies, each one meticulously considered as she navigated the labyrinthine library.

She paused in front of a particularly dusty section, her fingers tracing the titles of volumes on ancient magic and forgotten spells. It was then that she noticed a small, seemingly ordinary teddy bear perched on a nearby shelf. With its fluffy fur and big, bright eyes that sparkled with mischief, the teddy bear was no larger than the size of Quinn's boots, making it irresistibly cute.

"A spirit controlling a teddy bear?" Quinn wondered, raising an eyebrow at the odd sight. She sighed, dismissing the thought. "Not important."

Ignoring the bear, Quinn pulled out a thick, leather-bound book and began to flip through its pages. The faint sound of tiny footsteps reached her ears, but she dismissed it, focusing instead on the arcane symbols and incantations before her.

"Blood magic... labeled as a myth..." she muttered under her breath, her brow furrowing in concentration.

A soft thud interrupted her thoughts, and she glanced up to see the teddy bear had moved closer, now sitting at the edge of her table. Its stitched mouth curled into what could almost be described as a mischievous smile.

"Go away," Quinn said sharply, her tone icy and impatient. She returned her attention to the book, determined to ignore the persistent plush toy.

But Cuddlefluff had other plans. The tiny bear hopped onto the table, knocking over a stack of books with a surprisingly agile leap. Quinn sighed in exasperation, scooping up the bear and placing it back on the shelf.

"Stay there," she commanded, her voice firm and brooking no argument, though she had little hope it would obey.

Resuming her research, Quinn found herself continually distracted by the bear's antics. It knocked over more books, climbed onto her shoulder, and even performed little magical tricks, like conjuring tiny sparks of light that danced around her head. Each interruption was met with a sharp glance and an exasperated mutter.

Finally, Cuddlefluff sat in front of her, tilting its head curiously. "You're not human, are you?" the bear asked, its tiny voice laced with curiosity.

Quinn's eyes widened, and before she knew it, she grabbed the teddy bear by the neck and pinned it against the wall. "Do not ever utter those words again," she hissed, her eyes blazing with anger.

Cuddlefluff's eyes widened in surprise. "Jeez, calm down! No need for violence. I'm just curious," it squeaked, trying to free itself from her grip.

Quinn realized what she was doing and let go, the bear dropping to the floor with a soft thud. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart. "I don't need you prying into my business," she muttered, more to herself than to the bear.

The bear dusted itself off and looked up at her with a mix of irritation and amusement. "Well, it's not every day you meet someone like you. And besides, I'm here to help," it said, its eyes twinkling with mischief.

"I doubt you can help," Quinn replied curtly, turning back to her book.

"Suit yourself," Cuddlefluff said with a shrug, but made no move to leave.

As Quinn continued her search, she finally found a book titled "Blood Magic of Destruction" emblazoned with a slightly red stamp displaying a garden and a castle—the Evergarden symbol. She felt a surge of excitement; this could be what she was looking for. She picked up the book and started looking for a quiet place to sit and read.

Cuddlefluff, sensing Quinn's shift in focus, followed her at a distance, observing quietly. The bear's usual antics were replaced with a keen interest, its eyes never leaving Quinn.

Settling down in a secluded corner, Quinn began to delve into the ancient text. Cuddlefluff found a spot nearby, watching intently, ready to offer help—or simply continue being a persistent companion.

Throughout the day, Cuddlefluff also welcomed new visitors into the library, entertaining them with charming tricks and humorous antics. All were impressed and left with light hearts, their spirits lifted by the delightful teddy bear. After each performance, Cuddlefluff would glance over at Quinn, as if seeking approval or acknowledgment, before returning to its usual place nearby.

After a few hours of reading, Quinn noticed a strange person entering the library. Weirdly enough, Cuddlefluff didn't entertain him, which caught Quinn's attention.

"What's wrong?" Quinn asked, noticing Cuddlefluff's behavior.

"I feel something is off about him," Cuddlefluff replied, its eyes narrowing as it watched the stranger.

Quinn got up and began to spy on the man, keeping a careful distance. She observed the man closely and noticed that he was also looking for magic books, dressed in black clothing that gave off an air of suspicion. He spoke to the cashier, asking for the tiniest details about the building.

'A terrorist? No. That'd be too dumb, what's to gain in a free library?' Quinn thought to herself, her mind racing with possibilities.

Cuddlefluff, sensing her thoughts, entered her wavelength. 'It would seem like he is off to do something bad to hurt people, potentially a gang member.'

This shocked Quinn, but she kept her cool. 'Don't tell me this little brat can enter my thoughts,' she thought.

'Hey! I can hear you still,' Cuddlefluff responded, sounding mildly offended.

Quinn and Cuddlefluff followed the suspicious man, keeping a safe distance. Their eyes never left him as he exited the library. Once he was out of sight, Quinn turned to Cuddlefluff, who nodded in agreement. They quickly made their way back to the cashier.

"We need to talk," Quinn said urgently to the cashier, who looked puzzled.

"There's a man who just left," Quinn continued, "He's been asking suspicious questions about the building. We think he might be planning something. Be prepared for any possibilities."

The cashier's eyes widened in alarm. "Thank you for the warning. I'll notify security and keep an eye out for anything unusual."

As the night wore on, Quinn and Cuddlefluff remained on high alert, their senses heightened by the looming threat.
