Betrayed by Blood
Kendra sat in front of the vanity, brushing her long, red hair, her eyes narrowed as she mentally went through a list of what she was to do for the day. But before she could voice her thoughts, the door swung open with a sharp creak.
Maris, her maid, rushed in, her footsteps heavy. The sudden intrusion startled Kendra, causing her to drop the brush clumsily.
With a swift motion, Maris fell to her knees before Kendra. "My Lady, I have something important to tell you," she said, her voice panicked.
Kendra froze, her gaze sharp as a blade. She let out a short, irritated laugh, the insult already on her tongue. But something about the frantic look in Maris's eyes made her pause.
"What is it?" Kendra asked, her voice cold but tinged with curiosity. The irritation in her tone was unmistakable.
