Cain stood by the bed, his gaze fixed on Avery's pale, sweat-slicked face. The doctor's words echoed in his mind, louder than they should.
Pre-heat.
How was this even possible? She hasn't gotten her wolf yet, so how? How could her sub-gender already show? It wasn't two months yet, so how? These thoughts remained through his head as the doctor continued his check-up on her. As though the man could sense his thoughts, he straightened, grabbing his suitcase, ready to leave.
