"You're not a servant anymore," Lydia's voice echoed in her head, but the habit, the need to move, to be useful, was hard to silence. Almost without thinking, Avery reached for the cleaning supplies tucked neatly under the bathroom sink. She was ready to lose herself in the comfort of routine when the door creaked open.

Lydia stepped in with a bright smile on her face. Her gaze fell on the cleaning supplies Avery held, and she frowned, her eyebrows arched.
