Chapter 29 - Camping To The Night

He glanced from left to right, and once he confirmed the surroundings were safe, he made the Pathfinder into a waiting position and had it on a mobile ghoul radar. Upon seeing the Pathfinder follow his order, Quagmire was delighted that such a thing was possible.

A few days had passed, and he was thankful he could find such a function. On the first day he camped once again in the open forest, and he was ambushed numerous times by ghouls. Thankfully, after the crimson night, the ghouls were much easier to deal with, but many were crafty.

It also became much more manageable that he now possessed firearms and a Mark Two variable silencer. So much noise was reduced, and the firing now only traveled a few dozen meters out. This was a gigantic boost, as in the past, it would reach so far that it might bring the entire legion of ghouls onto him.

With that in mind, he rested his hands on his pistol as if trying to pet it, knowing he could rely on it if things came to shove. It was such a good thing to have a reliable partner.

He was proud and delighted, but none of those things mattered in the current situation; what matters is the need to secure the surroundings. With that in mind, he pushed the ones bothering him at the back of his mind and started to think up a strategy. He thought long and hard but ended up using the ghoul radar.

He moved closer to the pathfinder and brought up his hands, after which a window appeared, and he started typing. He could mentally do it, but he wanted to practice it using his hands as he would be required to do so in the future, especially those others could use. He cannot do it through the system window but the machine window.

Fortunately, he was now getting used to it, including the machine's parameters. The technology was foreign to him. However, even so he was rather able to adjust well, which he means could now rapidly use and adapt to it.

After all, there was no point in dwelling on old things. One must be able to change with time even in the form of technologies and how he view things around him. It would be a lousy presentation for the emperor if it were not.

His fingers danced into the keyboard as if it was dancing in a waltz. It was precise and proper; even though it was a bit slow, like ancient slow, he was getting the hang of it; the better, the faster he could type and make commands.

Furthermore, he believes this would be important in the future as he thought there would come a time when he would use his mind to do and solve commands in the head while managing logistics and other things in the window panel. Which is why he needs to use his hands for something that he could touch like the common working man who works nine to five at a corporation.

After he pressed his desire function and confirmed it, the pathfinder once again sent out a pulse into the surrounding area at a three-hundred-sixty angle. He felt his skin vibrate as the waves came back to the instrument. He saw the entire map around him with red dots surrounding it; it ran from hundreds to dozens of ghouls and into isolated cases.

He stared at the screen and saw a few isolated ghouls around him, but it was a few kilometers out, and the largest and numerous ones were too far for him to care; unless an explosion came and echoed through the area, he would be relatively safe.

With that in mind, he brought out his tent and started to assemble it. Occasionally, he moved closer to the pathfinder and checked once again. The ghouls moved a few meters, but it mostly remained the same. They were too far from him.

Now feeling slightly tired, he brought out his sleeping bag and entered it. He lay down with his pistol at the side and drifted into the wonderland of ultimate dreams.

There, he saw his silhouette. He could not make out the details but could tell from the shadow. The shadow stared at him, smiled and turned back once more. It started to move, and after a few moments, the shadow was far away. He felt a tingling sensation in his chest, he was confused and tried to reach out, but suddenly the scenery rapidly changes. Unfortunately, that was when the dream ended.

Quagmire woke up with tears on his cheeks. Beside him was an alarm that was ringing. It was the radar's alarm that there were ghouls nearby. Realizing the situation, he grabbed the pistol from his side and got out of the sleeping bag.

With the pistol firmly in his hands, he moved closer to the radar and looked closely at the monitor. There are approximately a dozen ghouls near him; thus, knowing that he looked in each direction. There, he saw that they were coming from a single direction. There were also more coming into the range of the radar.

Realizing his current situation, he could not help but curse the night away as it disrupted his sweet sleep. Now, he would be all groggily in the morning. With a slight annoyance, he brought his pistol closer to his face.

Thankfully, it was now midnight, and the moon gave a clear illumination of the surroundings. So, he aimed his pistol, and the eagle's eye activated almost automatically, and he could adjust it to his desired magnification.

When he saw the ghoul, he adjusted his body and aim, then pulled the trigger. The shot echoed a few dozen meters; the shot hit the head of the ghoul, and a rose blossomed in the middle of the night. The ghoul fell to the ground lifelessly.

Unfortunately for him, the other ghouls seemed to get enraged and started to charge at him with a ferocious speed.
