Akosua Adjei woke up and didn't know what to do today. Her grandfather Mr. Osei Adjei is going to send her to the supernatural testing center today to check if she has spiritual energy in her body .
It's not that she has not checked it before. She has checked it for two times and the results are all the same. No spiritual energy in her body so she will not have supernatural power in her life and is waste but grandfather don't want to believe it at all.
Their Adjei family has always produced supernatural power in their offspring since the apocalypse started hundred years ago.
An uncontrollable virus broke out on earth hundred years ago. Some of the infected mutated in a negative way and became zombies and some few in positive direction and produced supernatural power.
There are eight major supernatural power categories. They are wood,fire,water,earth, darkness,light, space and psychic power. Under these seven powers there are mutation differences from person to person
For instance, some wood supernatural power can make crop grow fast, some can detect what plants needs, some can tame mutant plants to fight and a whole lot more.
Some people may ask, what about those with enhanced physical abilities. Like strength, speed, vision,and hearing. My dear, after the virus outbreak, all survivors have enhanced strength and speed. Supernaturals has got all the four enhancement.Â
So strength and speed is a boost that the virus brought to all human kind. If it weren't for the other aspect of the virus, scientists would have been happy and would just mark that day the natural selection day instead of the apocalypse.
The virus affected animals and plants but they all mutated in positive direction without any zombie animals or zombie plants.
The mutated animals grew bigger, smarter and aggressive. The plants were not left behind.
Some could be eaten and some well known edible plants became extremely poisonous.
Example is rice which can no more be eaten at all. Th whole rice plant is like a tree now. But the most funny aspect is that, the four meters tall plant is reddish in color telling everyone how poisonous it is.
Let's forget about the history and talk about Akosuah Adjei. Akosuah's father, Patrick Adjei,married Felicia Oteng as the main wife and have five concubines. He has four children of which one is boy and three are girls. But only Akosuah is from the main wife. Felicia Oteng just couldn't conceive again after Akosuah.
The children are ; Dominic, Penelope, Rosemary and Akosuah.
They have all been tested and have spiritual energy but only her still don't have it.
Dominic is fire supernatural person, Penelope and Rosemary are earth and water supernatural respectively.
There are no more zombies after the thirty eighth year of the apocalypse but we are still battling with mutant plants and animals so having supernatural power is very important.
No matter what, she has to go with her grandfather again. I don't know how far the privileges she is enjoying now is going to be reduced again.
She knows today is the limit Mr Adjei snr patience is going to last but there is nothing she can do.
She got up from the bed and went to the washroom to clean herself. She wore her dress nicely with minimal makeup.
She watched her gorgeous self in the full length mirror and couldn't help but sigh again.
It's not easy. Without supernatural power, there is a high probability she is going to be exchanged to the highest bidder for resources and marry someone the family deem more favorable to the Adjei family.
She is only sixteen now. she will probably marry by eighteen if she has no spiritual energy in her body.
Akosuah came out and asked Mr. Adjei senior when we are leaving. We took the electric car to the center of the base where most of the offices and stores are located.
There are only six bases in Ghana right now. The are named after the region it is located. We are in the Kumasi base.
She got to the center and checked again, the answer is still negative. Her mood becomes more unbearable. What should she do? She doesn't know anymore.
Hey, life is not easy. "What are you doing standing there for?" Asked Mr. Adjei senior harshly.
Akosuah quickly answered,"grandpa I'm coming "
She got into the car and met her grandfather's gloomy face.
Akosuah shrank her neck in fear and didn't dare to meet her grandfather's eyes.
When they got home, her grandfather opened the door and said to Patrick Adjei that there was going to be a family meeting in an hour.
Akosuah hung her head down with tears streaming down her face. She knew that this meeting was probably about her.
She went to her room and didn't come out until it was time for the meeting. The whole family were warned not to go anywhere today.
When everyone sat down, Mr. Adjei senior said straight to the point that , Akosuah can't be the young lady of the family so her mother has to be demoted from main wife to concubine.
Felicia Oteng was so shocked that she fainted when she heard what Mr. Adjei senior said.
The first concubine, Jessie Antwi, pinched Mrs.Felicia Oteng . She woke up and asked hoarsely whether what Mr. Adjei senior said is true.
Mr. Adjei senior said yes, she can only be a concubine. The first concubine is having two children of which one is the only boy so she will be made main wife.
Felicia Oteng said then she wants divorce. Mr. Adjei senior said no, divorce is impossible.
According to the law after the apocalypse, no matter what, the property of couple will be divided into two equals if they divorce.
So most people will rather take concubine than marry.
Felicia Oteng also knew the reason so she she told them she just wants her daughter and her own personal property.
Mr. Adjei senior said it can be done but the shops can't be given to her. They were bought with the family money.
Felicia Oteng is an orphan so if not of her special supernatural power, she wouldn't be able to be married as the main wife.
Felicia Oteng is a wood supernatural power who can detect whether a mutant plants is edible or not. She can also determine the medicinal parts of plants.
She has helped the family alot in discovering new edible plants so that the family can use it in their special dishes in their restaurant.
Mutant plants contain energy which improve and also improve the quality of supernatural power. So no matter how it tastes, it is going to be sold at high prices if they are edible plants without any negative side effects.
Felicia Oteng gasped in astonishment of the old man's greedy nature that he is showing right now.
Felicia Oteng then said "ok, then let's go according to your wish, but don't forget you still need me to sign divorce papers before you can change the main lady"
Felicia Oteng has also decided to be tough. She only bowed her head before because she thought Patrick loved her, but now she thinks it's just her wishful thinking.
