Chapter 1 - The Void

- It hurts....

- it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts it hurts.....

He felt the warmth surrounding his abdomen, a cavity peering into his body - causing his mind to frenzy.

- Crap this is seriously bad, I'm going to die - quite literally and for what!? … all of this...

He raises his hand from his stomach and peers at it. soaked in a crimson red - reflecting the boys loss of vitality by the second.

- Is... mine?

Images flashing through his mind, all the conversations he's had with people, strangers on the street, friends from work, mates from school all slamming into his thoughts repeatedly, non stop.

If he had to guess this would be his life flashing through his eyes, something he thought that him of all people would have a whole lifetime before they experienced this

Not even knowing how, why or what caused him to end up in this situation - all the boy had the time to do was ponder as the haze began to creep in until.

Darkness

-the boy was dead-

*…*

*…*

*…*

*…*

*…Bzzt..*

*..Bzzt..Bzzt..*

The sound of static, starting as a small buzz but growing increasingly louder.

- ….

- w-what ..

-What is that noise

A boy of unknown origin awoke within void, he couldn't see, perceive nor feel anything. All other 5 senses apart from hearing were apparently null.

Panic soon overtook the boy as he tried to scramble around, not able to cling on to anything tangible.

"Someone! Please... HELP ME!"

He shouted but received no reply, for there was nothing there but himself. Trying to make sense of it all the boy brainstormed. How.. - How am I here, I was on the street... walking around until - … oh god . Eventually having reached the same conclusion as he eventually did when coming to terms with it on the street - he had died.

The static now becoming a siren which the boy could no longer think over

*BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTTT*

"GOD CAN SOMEONE STOP THAT, PLEASE, JUST MAKE IT ALL STOP"

*click*

Something had changed, a click, akin to that of the pausing of a tape - the static was gone and silence filled the air once more, but something had changed. Distant sounds began to emerge, a breeze creeped around the boy and those once distant sounds started to sound like foot steps. As if the world was forming around him - then all of a sudden the boy was hit by light.

Shocked by this sudden change he fell backwards. he could feel again. Rubbing his eyes and slowly adjusting them to peer at the world Infront of him, shock would be an understatement for what he felt.

Dozens upon dozens of figures where passing by him, some stopping to look at the state of the crazed kid in the alleyway peering at them with bugeyes.

This wasn't the reasoning for his state of awe - well that's at least one way to put it - one could argue immense disgust would also take priority in describing this series of events.

what the fu...

Having gazed long and hard, sweat beginning to drip off the side of his face and down his brow. He was at a loss for words, this wasn't the street he supposedly died on, nor did this look like any place near where he lived. The streets were grimey - litter and waste filling up all cracks lining the 2 walls of the alley, the ground was wet and had an ominous sludge that the boy would not rather touch and the sky had a green hue. green huh, The boy thought to himself - but returning to the source of his initial shock, it wasn't this grotesque environment or this "supposed" green sky he thinks he sees it was the denizens of this area that were his greatest source of discomfort.

Their appearance was *almost* human if he had to make sense of it, but everything else was definitely not. Their bodies were, to put it bluntly mauled, savaged by machinery, robotic prosthesis' replacing their limbs, the lower half of peoples jaws were mechanical and "grotesque-looking" - they were hunched over, disproportionate and whatever remained of their flesh was unsightly.

The boy - shaken by what he was looking at decided to stand up, look around and begin to gather his bearings.

"just where the hell am I?" the boy muttered as he looked at his reflection in a nearby puddle.

To put this into comparison our protagonist - he who shan't be named - is of average looks, aged 18 and is of an average build, maybe leaning towards the skinnier end of things. Has short hair (a fringe, short in the sides and sort of medium length in the back) possibly in need of a trim and stands at a height of around 5'7 and comes from an origin which definitely doesnt entail the common use of prosthesis nor the apparent experimentation on their own flesh.

The boy, hesitant to go onto the main street where his assumptions of what the civilians of this place are - he instead opts to instead turn tail and promptly run the opposite direction down the dark alleyway, well that was until he instantly went face first into a fat figure and promptly fell over.

oww.., The boy thought, gazing haphazardly upwards to meet the slack jawed figure standing 9 feet tall over him. Terror. That's the first thing that immediately entered his mind.

"Aaa, fu, sor.."

The boy began crawling backwards away from the figure.

"No need to run boy"

The abhorrent figure spoke and slowly started making his way over, other shapes beginning to loom out of the shadows behind it.

"Well uh.. on the contrare my friend I think the situation dictates that I should! And well with that I will be going!"

The boy stood up, spanned towards the direction of the street but was immediately met with with another impassable greaseball of a being.

Feeling trapped he stopped in his tracks and tried to analyse the situation, but to no avail he was being closed in on from both sides, a tense feeling slowly started to creep up on him.

"We just want to talk to you"

The voice echoed out from behind the 9 foot man.

"I think we can all just sit down and talk about this... I'm not looking to get hurt just trying to mind my business okay?"

"Oh we can work this out, just for the right price"

This time it was the fat grotesque ball behind him. He watched as he slowly unsheathed a cleaver from his hip. Panic hit the boy as he began to hyperventilate.

"gentlemen plea-"

In an instant he was jumped on, pinned down and limbs spread apart on the cold concrete. Fuck I'm going to die, I'm going to die holy shit,  the boy thought on repeat

"For the price of survival all we need is to tax some of your limbs and you will be dandy pal"

The boy listened in horror and started shouting incessantly to try and reason with them. He felt his stomach plummet as the cleaver was raised.

"WAIT PLEASE STOP, PLEASE!"

*SQQQQUEEELCH*

Screams of agony soon followed.

Just like that he had lost his left arm.
