The United States is undoubtedly the undisputed hegemon of the Americas, a position beyond question. Its unique geographical advantages have allowed for rapid development, and following the conclusion of the Civil War, the nation's industrial growth has been nothing short of meteoric. Today, the entire continent of the Americas has essentially become the backyard of the United States.
Of course, in South America, Germany's influence is also formidable. Long before the outbreak of the Great War, Germany had already begun to compete with the United States, though the latter enjoyed a distinct advantage due to its geographical position.
"If the Empire were to launch an assault on Canada, would the United States be prepared to engage in combat with us?" Qin Tian asked coldly with a sneer.
"Your Majesty, the Republic of the United States will not become an enemy of the German Empire. However, I hope Your Majesty does not underestimate our determination to defend American interests," Brian responded.
Though Germany is now the global hegemon with the most powerful army and navy in the world, the United States is not to be dismissed. The American navy is still building new warships, but its army has already grown significantly. The United States now boasts a standing army of over a million soldiers, far more formidable than before. While perhaps not as elite as the German military, in a domestic defense scenario, the United States could certainly hold its own against a German assault across the Atlantic. With a powerful industrial base and a vast population of over eighty million, the United States could easily muster millions of soldiers. The American government is confident that, with such a vast force, defending its homeland would be well within reach.
Qin Tian narrowed his eyes. The arrogance and presumption of the Americans displeased him greatly. Were it not for the current circumstances, he might have sent Brian away immediately. However, this would not help resolve the issue at hand.
Germany's current plan does not involve launching an immediate war with the United States. The Empire has gained far too many benefits from the Great War, which must be consolidated before further expansion can occur. While Germany is powerful, to attempt to defeat a nation as strong as the United States so soon after a world war would be extremely difficult, and could even lead to the collapse of the Empire. The German people, too, are not eager to enter another prolonged conflict; they believe the war is won, and it is now time to enjoy the fruits of victory. Any further war would surely lead to their disillusionment, and public support for both Qin Tian and the government would inevitably decline.
"Unless absolutely necessary, the Imperial Army will not launch an attack on Canada," Qin Tian mused, then added, "At this time, it is unwise to break relations with the United States. We will spare the British for now. Once Germany has fully consolidated the gains from this war, we will be able to reclaim our honor at any time."
Brian nodded, a smile spreading across his face. The fact that the mighty German Empire had actually made a concession was unexpected, but it was certainly a cause for his optimism. This proved that, despite Germany's power, it was not invincible. With enough resolve, even a nation as strong as Germany could be made to yield.
"However, the Empire will certainly occupy all British colonies outside of Canada. Any attempts to resist will be crushed without mercy!" Qin Tian emphasized.
Brian did not offer a response. While the United States, too, coveted Britain's colonies, he knew there was no way they could compete with Germany. The Germans had set their sights firmly on those colonies, and if the United States intervened, it would undoubtedly lead to a full-scale war. America, for all its strength, was not yet in a position to challenge Germany.
"Furthermore, I do not wish for the British to engage in any underhanded actions, such as dispatching fleets to attack the Empire's merchant vessels. Should such actions be detected, the Empire will respond with a direct invasion of Canada. If the United States dares to interfere, let war begin!" Qin Tian warned. He was certain that the British, having fled to Canada, would not be content. They would undoubtedly continue with their petty tactics. While these actions might not pose a significant threat to Germany, they would certainly be irritating.
"Your Majesty, I will convey your message to the Canadian authorities. I am confident they will make the right decision," Brian said.
Qin Tian nodded, offering no further words. After a few more formalities, Brian took his leave.
That afternoon, during a meeting, Qin Tian relayed the American demands to the Imperial ministers. The response was one of righteous indignation and fervor.
"What do the Americans think they are? How dare they threaten the Empire?" Army Minister and Chief of Staff, von Falkenhayn, exclaimed in fury.
"Indeed, Your Majesty! The American navy now only has two battleships in active service. Although they are constructing more, these take time. If you order it, the Imperial Navy could destroy every coastal city on America's East Coast!" Count Tirpitz, the Admiral of the Navy, added.
Germany is now the undisputed world leader with the strongest military force. How could the Americans possibly dare to threaten them?
"The Empire can no longer afford to engage in another large-scale war. That is why the Americans are so emboldened," Prime Minister Bülow said.
Qin Tian nodded, "While the Imperial Navy certainly has the power to decimate every coastal city on America's East Coast, defeating the United States outright is unrealistic. For one, the Americans can arm millions of soldiers to defend their homeland. The Empire, on the other hand, would have to cross the vast Atlantic to attack America, a huge disadvantage. At least for now, it would be extremely difficult for the Empire to defeat the United States."
Qin Tian had a clear understanding of the reality, and his level-headedness brought comfort to the ministers. They knew that it was easy for a young man who suddenly held immense power to become blinded by his authority, as seen in the case of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
"Ministers, we will avoid conflict with the British who have fled to Canada for the time being. Of course, we will not sign any peace treaties or ceasefire agreements with them. Our campaign to take the colonies that once belonged to Britain will not cease. If the British dare to engage in petty provocations, we will respond decisively! Let them understand that the Empire is not one to be disrespected!" Qin Tian stated solemnly.
"Yes, Your Majesty!" the ministers replied in unison.
