He remembered when he was the leader of a mercenary association, the Brotherhood of Arcadia. Later known as the Brotherhood of the Buttercup, it gained considerable notoriety throughout the kingdom. It was also there that he met his future wife, Maemi.
Maemi was a beautiful woman known in the kingdom for her almond-shaped eyes. Her ancestors presumably came from a distant archipelago. Another relic of her past was an old sword that had belonged to a caste of warriors. She eventually gave it to her future husband as a token of her gratitude for his services. Ogai and his wife loved each other with a pure, passionate love. They took care of each other with a devotion that was both admired and envied. They never suspected that one day tragic events would shatter their peaceful life forever.
