Isabella's POV
I said, "You're lying," my voice shaking as I turned to face Enzo in the poorly lighted room. Tension and hidden facts weighted the oppressive air between us. Tell me, Enzo, you're lying!
His jaw tightened, and for a few seconds his eye softened—the Enzo I once trusted flaring to life. But then, as rapidly as it surfaced, that fragility disappeared.
"Isabella," he replied, his voice firm but tinged with a warning, "now isn't the time for uncertainty. You have to trust me if we are going to make it.
" Trust you?" I repeated, astounded. After all you have concealed from me? Based on what you just acknowledged? How am I expected to believe you now?
Enzo moved forward, and my breath stopped even with my resentment. His enormous presence was seductive even among turmoil.
