Chapter 3 - Chapter 3 - Pet Store

After collecting himself, Leo followed his memory to the side of the house where the garage was located to retrieve his bike.

His family's house was a Cape Cod-style home and relatively small, but it was spacious enough for a family of three.

From his memories, Leo learned that when his father was still alive, they had actually been living in the urban area of the city. However, after he passed away, they had to relocate to a location that was more favourable for the family's finances.

The family store was still in its original place, though.

Following his memory again and placing his right palm on the scanner on the wall to gain access to the garage, Leo watched as the garage gate opened like a seal.

The process was fascinating to Leo, even though it was commonplace to people of this world.

To Leo from Earth, though, unlocking something with his palm print was a captivating process.

This level of technology might have existed back in his world, but Leo had never come into contact with it. He did, however, know about unlocking with one's fingerprint, so there was a high chance this level of technology also existed on Earth.

Based on the original body's memories, Leo knew that the technology level of this world was significantly more advanced than Earth's, but at the same time, it wasn't overly extravagant. This was because of the presence of pets, which diverted the world's attention toward them rather than focusing solely on scientific advancements.

The technology in this world still outpaced Earth's due to the existence of magic. However, this meant that Leo could still relate to the technology level of this world, much like its residents, even without the memory of the original Leo.

After the garage gate opened, Leo spotted a black bike in the relatively empty space of the garage.

It was a sports motorcycle.

Given the original Leo's frugal mindset, as if preparing for the last days, having any kind of bike was considered a luxury. It was only because of his mother and sister's insistence that he should start taking better care of himself, now that they had finally acquired the beast egg they had been saving for, that Leo decided to treat himself and get a sports motorcycle.

It wasn't the latest model, of course, nor was it following the current trend, but it still looked very cool, and that was more than enough for Leo.

Excited at the prospect of riding a bike, something he couldn't do back on Earth, Leo immediately hopped on the bike and started it with his fingerprint.

The motorcycle also had a stylish dashboard to display the bike's current status.

With the brakes engaged, Leo revved the bike's exhaust, and the vibrations from the bike's rear tire, roaring to move forward, sent his adrenaline surging.

The loud sound emanating from the bike was like music to his ears.

"This is amazing!" Leo muttered and released the bike's brakes as he sped out of the garage onto the road, accelerating away as the garage door closed after he left.

Leo wasn't worried about falling off the bike, as the memories of the original Leo guided him. Though he had never ridden a bike in his life, the original Leo had, and taking over his body felt like second nature. Riding felt like a muscle memory, and all he had to do was go with the flow.

After leaving his street, Leo slowed down.

Although they went by different names, the police were also a presence in this world.

On a bike, the family store wasn't far. It was only a 10-minute journey at most. On foot, it would take longer and could extend to 30 minutes.

Since it was his first time seeing the world outside himself and not from the memories of the body he took control of, Leo took his time to observe his surroundings.

On both sides of the road, people were going about their daily lives.

Leo observed some kids and teenagers dressed in uniforms, on their way to school, and adults in formal attire heading to work.

As he continued to ride, the low-rise buildings gradually transitioned into taller structures and skyscrapers.

However, what dominated the scene was the presence of pets.

At the early stages of their power, not all pets were big in size, and although they were beasts, they still appeared quite 'petite' at the beginning.

For instance, Isabella's phantom ice beast looked like a regular cat on the outside, but that was because it was still in its infant state. The smallest matured phantom ice beast stood at three metres tall, at the very least.

In this world, pets have four states and nine recognized known stages.

The four states are the infant state, adolescent state, adult state, and matured state. The nine power stages are as follows: Class 1 Soldier Level, Class 2 Elite Level, Class 3 General Level, Class 4 Commander Level, Class 5 Champion Level, Class 6 Lord Level, Class 7 Noble Level, Class 8 King Level, and Class 9 Emperor Level.

The power ranking for beast tamers closely mirrors the pet power ranking, with designations such as Soldier Level Beast Tamer, Elite Level Beast Tamer, General Level Beast Tamer, and so on.

Each beast undergoes various states of growth, and their progression through these states aligns with their power levels.

A beast might be in its infant state in Class 1, adolescent state in Class 2, adult state in Class 3, and matured state in Class 4.

Conversely, another beast could have all states in Class 1, while a different beast might remain in its infant state until Class 4 due to it belonging to a strong race.

The pets Leo saw on the road were all in their infant state.

One of the pedestrians had a Songbird perched on their shoulder.

Songbirds belonged to the Avian family of pets. It had no combat abilities, and its growth potential was limited to the peak stage of class one. It was a weak creature with relatively high intelligence, and it possessed the unique ability to communicate and soothe the mind with whispers that resembled a song. Due to this, it was a popular choice among the general population as a pet.

Although it lacked combat power, its eggs were still expensive, as it still offered a way to gain even a bit of strength in the long run.

As Leo drove to the store, he couldn't help but be awestruck by the sights he passed.

'I'm really in another world,' he thought to himself, and the notion felt surreal, even though it was his new reality.

A few minutes later, Leo finally arrived at the pet store.

The store was situated at the end of a once-popular commercial street that still saw traffic, keeping businesses in the area alive.

Parking his bike near the store, Leo made his way toward the entrance.

The entrance was locked, and to open it, Leo had to press his thumb on the doorknob before turning it.

After doing so, he entered the door, and a bell-like sound rang, caused by a small bell located behind the door, announcing the arrival of someone in the store.

The interior of the store was quite dark, so Leo went ahead and raised the curtains that covered the front glass walls of the store.

The store immediately filled with natural light as the morning sun's reflection poured in.

Leo turned to glance out of the glass window and saw that he could keep an eye on his bike from inside the store, which gave him a sense of relief.

Leo had been aware of this from his memories, but he wasn't the original Leo of this world. This bike was his new prized possession, so he couldn't completely relax. However, now that he could at least see it, he felt more at ease, even though no one could steal a bike that required the owner's fingerprint to start.

Taking his attention away from the bike, Leo turned to survey his surroundings.

Since it was a store, it was a place to acquire items, but as he looked at the nearly empty shelves that were supposed to hold pet food, Leo could already discern the challenging state of the family business.

It appeared that he had a lot of work ahead of him.

"Even the harmoniaberry is about to run out," Leo muttered when he noticed the relatively sparse section on the side of the shelf.

The fact that even a common pet food like harmoniaberry was nearly out of stock made Leo realise that he would need to start making purchases soon.

The Harmoniaberry is known for its gentle and balanced properties. It's rich in essential nutrients and is considered a staple in the diets of various pet families. The berry is easy to cultivate and widely available, making it a common choice for pet owners to provide their companions with a healthy and well-balanced diet.

Perhaps it was due to the memories he inherited from the original body, but the idea of managing a business in another world didn't intimidate Leo.

After flipping the sign on the glass wall to indicate that the store was open, Leo settled behind the counter.

It was still quite early, and it was unlikely for customers to arrive promptly on this street, so Leo decided he might as well do something else – something he had been quite curious about ever since he learned he had transmigrated into a magical world.

In this world, people awakened their taming space at the age of 16, enabling them to contract and bond with pets.

Leo had long surpassed the age of 16 and naturally had a taming space, even if he hadn't tamed a pet yet.

Despite having the original body's memories, Leo was eager to see for himself what made the inhabitants of this world unique.

He wanted to see his taming space.
