Chapter 19 - Endings

The Demon King gave off a overwhelming evil aura. Berry and the others were pressed down like gravity had increased. He wore a black and red suit of armor that resembled blood and shadows. His helmet was lined with horns making up a crown. In his hands he welded a scythe that matched his armor. When Berry saw this he was instantly reminded of the destruction of Mistrun. The Demon King swung his weapon faster than the eye could see. Everything in its path was destroyed, most of the remaining human army had died in less than a second. The Hero rushed the Demon King with a clashing of weapons. It was only due to Berry's enhanced perception that he was able to follow any of their movements. The sky erupted with explosion as they flew back and forth. Berry and the others huddled together completely useless. The only thing they could do was pray for their survival. Hours passed as the two continued with no signs of stopping until a well timed strike sent the Demon King hurtling to the ground not far from them. The Demon King stood to his feet uninjured and began charging a strong spell. The Hero divided at the Demon King with his sword held out infount of him attempting to skewer his foe. Just before the Demon King was about to unleash his attack Berry sent out his little light orb right into the Demon King face. He challenged all the mana he could force into the spell trying to make it as bright as he could. Two seconds was all he was able to do before the Demon King dispelled the light with the flick of his hand. It wasn't long but it was enough because in the next second the Hero's sword impaled the Demon King. Berry watched as he screamed in pain falling to his knees. The Hero pulled his sword from his defeated foe and let out a shout of victory. He removed his helmet wiping blood, sweet and tears from his eyes. He turned to the survivors shouting the battle was over. Berry face turned from a smile of joy to one of fear as he seen the Demon King swing his scythe. With his last breath the Demon King decapitated the Hero sending his head rolling down the hill made up of corpses.

Years passed since that fateful day and Berry had settled in a good sized town far away from the grizzly scene of the last battle between the Hero and the Demon King. He wasn't able to continue his life as an adventure after all the death he had witnessed. Only five people had survived the horrible event and they were all charged by it. Berry had used his remaining money to purchase some land. He built himself a nice sturdy home and spent his days farming his land. It had taken years before he was able to sleep through the night without waking up from the nightmares. Berry had avoided going into town as much as possible and preferred his solitude. He had gotten a bit of a reputation as being scary or crazy or what ever else small town minds could thing of. Berry grabbed his old traveling cloke and pulled his hood up. As he made his way past the fountain in the middle of town he overheard some kids bad mouthing the Hero. He had planned on ignoring it but couldn't help himself. They had no idea how much he had sacrifice for them, for everyone. After a short tirade he got ahold of himself and rushed off. Berry new the years had taken there toll on him but didn't realize how badly. Berry made his way to the postoffice, he received a message saying he had a package waiting for him. Apon arriving there he was greeted by a large cart full of crates. "What's all this?" He asked the boy working there. "I was told you would pick it up. I'm not sure it just said to deliver to Mr Hardfall." Berry dragged the cart back home pulling it with ease. Even though he no longer was an adventurer he still trained daily. He pulled the cart into his barn and as he stepped out he heard a voice call to him "so you're just going to shove all my stuff into the barn and leave it there." He turned to see a beautiful lady with bright red hair standing there with her hands on her hips. "Casey!" He exclaimed as he ran to her sweeping her up in his arms. "I thought you were dead." He said as a tear ran down his cheek. "It took me so long to find you." She said not even trying to hold back her tears. "I left a few weeks after you did. I was always to late to catch up." Berry had aways regretted leaving and that regret only got worse when he heard the demons had killed everyone. However now it seemed like his bad luck had finally run out. The two were married shortly after and spent the rest of their lives in peace on their farm.
