Chapter 1 - Run

"We have to move My Queen" my guard said fear shadowing his facial features.

He was just a young man who I had shamelessly given the duty of protecting me. Meanwhile I could hear the horses behind us while the arrows flew past us, we were lucky that none had shot us.

I wasn't even scared for myself, I was scared for Luke, the guard, I couldn't watch another of my men die again. The pain was already too much to bear.

All this pain and everything happening was nothing but my fault, all I had to do was avoid the influence of a man but I indulged, like a fool.

The horses behind us were getting too close, Luke's grip on my wrist remained firm and as a first timer in this forest, he didn't know what lay ahead.

He paused at the exact time I thought about it.

"N-no" his voice almost broke into a sob.

I looked at him and I knew what had to be done and because this was all my fault, I knew who and what had to be sacrificed.

Me and my freedom.

"You'll have to jump Luke" I said trying to loosen my hand from his grip.

"I can't leave you behind, they will kill you" he turned to look at me both his hands going to my neck. For a minute I forgot what trouble we were in and everything happening around us.

Did he forget that I was his Queen and he wasn't supposed to touch me this way but while also contemplating this, his face had come too close to mine and his eyes too glued to mine.

He had pretty eyes honestly but this wasn't the time and place to think about how pretty his eyes were and how warm his hands were against my neck.

"Are you listening to me?" he asked, I was short of breath due to this sudden contact and interaction. The ruffle of leaves behind us is what brought me back to reality.

I removed his hands from the nape of my neck and took a step back.

"You Have To Jump" I said and this wasn't just a sentence, it was an order and this he had to follow.

"No!"

"This is an order from your Queen, jump right this minute or you shall die"

"No!"

And again he defied my order. He wasn't gonna move, I could see it in his eyes. The loyalty and something else I didn't want to dwell on as of this moment.

I took a step closer getting almost to eye level with him, "JUMP!"

Before he could even say no, I took the liberty of pushing him down the waterfall. I didn't see him fall but I sure as hell did just save his life.

An arrow shot right into my shoulder hindering any sort of movement I might have wanted to make.

"My Queen?" he said mockingly.

I didn't need to turn to know whose voice that was. Two days ago he was the love of my life. He was the man who I would have given my all just to be with but today, he was my enemy.

My shoulder didn't ease the pain I felt in my heart either. I had forgotten that we are all human and you'll never truly know a person until they show you who they truly are.

I had to give it to him though, he played me well and if I did get a chance to payback in the future I would make him suffer more than I have.

"My sweet and naive Queen, you know it was sweet when it lasted but your time is over" he chuckled. He must've been the happiest man on the planet right now.

I didn't turn to look but I could see the smile of triumph on his face.

"One last shot and you're gone" he said and I could hear the pull of the bow's string aimed right for my heart.

I didn't want to die but I guess this was it, guess it was time to meet my mom and dad in h-

Before I could finish the thought I felt something tighten on my legs and the next minute I was falling. Someone held me around my waist and the last thing I could remember was water everywhere all around me.

The first face or faces I saw when I opened my eyes were children's faces all around me. They chuckled then run away and I was left disheveled.

My body hurt almost everywhere, my head, my back, my legs but mostly my shoulder. The arrow was out, but the pain was unbearable honestly.

I could hear people speak outside the tent I was in but I wasn't actually interested in what happening outside, I was interested in Luke.

Where was he and how did he save me?

He could have saved me but how did he survive the fall, I'd pushed him with all the strength I'd garnered over the years yet he still managed to save me.

I could hear a couple of footsteps coming towards the tent. So I faked to be asleep and actually ended sleeping. Again.
