Chapter 5 - team hunting

Upon receiving his allowance, Li Ang also received the basic martial art technique.

The Xia government teaches its warriors the Iron Fist, a martial art focused on strengthening skin and bone.

Although the Iron Fist he received is incomplete, by getting merits points from the task, he can exchange them for the following missing parts.

Despite its incompleteness, this technique, with its richer details, should surpass his old, nameless practice method.

After receiving his items, the receptionist informed him he'd join a team and start work after a week. After a week, he's scheduled to work six days a week, only being able to take leave by using his merit points, or for special circumstances such as injury or family matters.

There were two reasons to explain Li Ang's past reluctance to serve the government. Li Ang's initial reason was a desire to avoid restricting his freedom. His fear of the strange anomalies was the second reason.

During his free time, Li Ang practiced the Iron Fist martial arts in the training field.

Qing Yunzi, the instructor, intervened to correct his form after he practiced some moves.

Li Ang has grasped the fundamentals of his technique, but hasn't mastered it yet.

His martial art practice is lacking; his form is flawed.

Years of self-taught practice left him with many bad habits.

after fixing his form, he experienced increased muscle engagement, enhancing the efficacy of his training.

No doubt, the Iron Fist technique was superior. Its techniques were precise, polished, each movement perfected through generations. His old practice was nothing compared to this.

Li Ang thanked the instructor for his corrections, acknowledging the instructor's significant help. Li Ang planned to repay the instructor in the future. It's rare to find people who work sincerely in this society.

He spent an hour practicing Iron Fist, then ate at a restaurant for a 15 yuan meal and finally took a medicinal bath at home.

Since it was still early, he went to the market to buy 40 more arrows for 60 yuan. Then bought cooking utensils for 25 yuan and 10kg of rice for 60 yuan and 5kg of sweet potatos 22 yuan.

Li Ang checked his pocket, discovered he only had 18 yuan, and facepalmed. He must manage his spending better.

After returning home, he spent another hour practicing Iron Fist, prepared dinner, and then enjoyed a medicinal bath before bed.

The next evening, having done his usual morning routine, he summoned the mirror, estimating that the void portal takes half an hour to close. He opened the portal to move his belongings from the inn to his new home.

After returning the inn key and settling his room bill, Li Ang discovered that only 7 hours had passed in the immortal world, despite spending 3 days in the martial arts world.

Upon his return from the immortal world, Li Ang went to sleep.

Li Ang's daily routine for the following days consisted of morning practice, lunch, a medicinal bath, evening practice, dinner, and a second medicinal bath.

Until the day of going on a job with his new team.

There were 4 people in the team, 3 men and 1 woman.

A person who seemed to be the team leader spoke to Li Ang.

"My name is Huang Wei. I'm a first rate warrior. Welcome to our team. We are tasked to clear the city outskirts from the strange anomalies."

Then he introduced his team.

"The short one is Fu Cheng and the big guy is called Yu Zexi. Both are second rate warriors. and the woman is Xi Ming. She is a third rate warrior."

Huang Wei seems to be the oldest, around his mid-30s, while Fu Cheng and Yu Zexi are in their late 20s and Xi Ming is in her early 20s.

Li Ang introduced himself.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Li A... I mean Lin Mu, a third rate warrior and I can use a crossbow."

"You will be a burden if you get involved in close combat. Just stay back while we handle the anomalies."

Li Ang ignored his contempt and kept himself calm.

They arrived at the outskirt of the city and encountered a werewolf anomaly.

A humanoid monster standing 190-200cm tall, and 700 pounds, with twice the strength of a normal person, and running speed about 50-55km/h, and great stamina. Its fur is silver-gray.

Li Ang stayed back and shot the werewolf from a distance.

Huang Wei confronted him directly, matching the anomaly speed and strength. As expected of a warrior who practiced his body refinement to the extreme.

Fu Cheng and Yu Zexi joined the battle and distracted the werewolf, giving Huang Wei a chance to attack its vulnerable back.

After the werewolf sustained damage from Huang Wei, it started running toward Li Ang.

The werewolf, hit by a single arrow, stumbled, its enraged roars shaking the air as it zig-zagged away. The werewolf shows a level of intelligence that surpasses other anomalies in combat.

Hitting a moving target with an arrow was something Li Ang wasn't used to, leaving him unprepared.

After 4 missed attempts, the werewolf finally came close enough for Li Ang to hit its chest and head, killing it.

The team went deeper into the forest, encountering the ghoul anomaly twice.

Each time, they killed them easily, and then returned to the city.

Fourteen merit points were earned for the anomalies hunted, with six awarded for the werewolf and eight for the two ghoul anomalies.

They distributed the points, Huang Wei taken 4 points, both Fu Cheng and Yu Zexi taken 3 points, both Xi Ming and Li Ang taken 2 points.

For Li Ang to get the following part of Iron Fist he needs 40 merit point.

Over the next few days, Li Ang completes his tasks in the morning, practices the Iron Fist at night, and takes a medicinal bath before bed. After a week of intense training, he's reached an advanced stage in bone refinement, becoming a second-rate warrior.

He has the confidence to defend himself effectively in close combat. He's decided to dedicate time to improving his archery skills.
