Chapter 2 - 2.

Kaito stared at his phone in bewilderedment." Dude...dude." he muttered barely able to process the text.

Jim glanced up from his game ." What? You won the lottery or something?"

Kaito shook his head, showing Jim the screen. "Not the text. It's who sent it."

Jim raised an eyebrow. "Who? Mr. Six-Pack?" he asked, unimpressed.

Kaito ignored the nickname, his mind racing as he continued staring at the screen.

Jim blinked, slowly processing what he saw. "Wait... you're serious?" He snatched the phone from Kaito's hands, reading it for himself. "How the hell did he even get your number?"

Kaito shrugged. "Beats me."

Jim looked up, curious. "So… what did you say to him?"

"Nothing. And I don't plan to," Kaito replied firmly.

"Why not?" Jim asked, slightly annoyed.

Kaito just shook his head. "What's the point? It's not like we're friends."

This led to a small argument, with Jim insisting the guy had probably been trying to be friendly.

Kaito scoffed. Friendly? Who in their right mind walks into a studio, picks the most seductive line from the script, and says it flawlessly to a random stranger?

After some back-and-forth, Jim sighed, defeated. "Fine. At least reply. I mean, the text is read, so it's only right you reply. Then we'll know if it's just friendly or… something else."

Kaito smirked. "Or… we could find out by beating him at his own game." He raised an eyebrow mischievously. "By out-flirting him."

Jim rolled his eyes. "I should've seen that coming."

"Relax. A little flirting never kills anyone. Now pass me my phone, and watch the magic work."

Jim handed over the phone without protest. "Don't say I didn't warn you."

Text Conversation:

Kaito: Your dear prince is doing as great as ever. 😜

Unknown: Finally decided to reply, I see.

Kaito: Sorry about that. My roommate had my phone earlier, so I didn't know about the text till now.

Jim glanced over his shoulder. "Oh, and now we're putting the blame on each other."

Unknown: Roommate?

Kaito: Yep. Been living together since high school. But enough about me—I want to know more about you, sir.

Unknown: Me? I doubt there's much to tell.

Jim raised an eyebrow. "You call this flirting?"

Kaito grinned. "Just wait for it."

Kaito: Great acting, by the way. It felt like we were actually living the lives of our two characters.

Unknown typing...

Kaito sipped his soda, eyes glued to the screen.

Unknown: Who said I was acting?

Kaito sprayed out his drink and nearly choked from surprise as Jim burst out laughing.

Kaito: Well, you sure had me fooled. I've never had so chemistry with a co-star before.

Unknown: Chemistry, huh?

Kaito: Yep. It's one of the times I wish the play was actually real, don't you think?

Jim snickered. "Playing innocent now, are we?"

"Just trying to work some magic here"

Kaito: Having someone as amazing as Gabrielle as a lover is definitely a dream to both the single guys and girls out there.

Unknown: So you're single?

Kaito: unfortunately yes. Just never found the right person yet.

Unknown: Maybe we can change that.

Kaito: How? 🧐

Unknown: Maybe I could be the Gabriel to his Highness.

Kaito inhaled deeply, steadying himself.

Kaito: But you're a busy man. I doubt you'd ever find the time.

Unknown: Time is limitless when I'm with my prince. For he's the only one I need to watch.

Kaito switched off his phone abruptly. Jim stared at him, confused. "What's with the cold feet?"

Kaito shrugged it off as just one conversation and decided to leave it at that.

Jim sighed. "So who are you gonna save him as? Cause I personally prefer Mr. Six-Pack."

" First of all, never say that to my face again. And secondly, who said I'm gonna talk to him again?" He paused before continuing," it was just one conversation and I just wanna leave it at that.

Before Jim could respond, Kaito's phone buzzed with an incoming call. The two stared at each other, stunned into silence.

The phone buzzed in his hand, the caller ID lighting up with Alex's name. He froze, his heart pounding. Why is he calling now?

A smirk appeared beside him, but he didn't move, staring at the screen as the ringing continued. He couldn't answer. Not now. Not like this.

The buzzing stopped, but only for a moment. It started again. He clenched his jaw, struggling to keep his resolve.

Without warning, the phone was snatched from his hand and answered. He shot a look at the one beside him, but the phone was pressed to his ear before he could protest.

For a moment, there was silence. Then Alex's voice came through, calm but somehow teasing, as if the conversation had already been expected. Kaito's chest tightened, but he forced himself to respond, pretending to be casual.

He didn't want to sound desperate. But as the conversation continued, an idea sparked in his mind. He tilted the phone, making sure Alex could hear the static as he shook it, tapping at the screen to make the signal worse.

"Hello? Can you hear me?" The words barely made it through the crackling noise. He let the static drag on for several moments, letting Alex's voice fade in and out.

Then, without warning, he hung up, slipping the phone back into his pocket with a sigh of relief. He pretended to be disappointed, though a part of him felt strangely triumphant.

Before he could even process the moment, the phone buzzed again. But this time, it wasn't Alex—it was a different friend,Lee, asking him to hang out to a club. Without thinking twice, he answered, his nerves gone as he accepted. A quick goodbye, and he was out the door, leaving the room behind. The sound of a defeated sigh echoed as the door clicked shut.

And that's just how a day in my life is,with my dear beloved assistant slash best bud, always ready to take the fall for me.

Life's been pretty good actually. Despite being a well-known actor,I still prefer to live my as simple as can be. Which is probably one of the reasons why I decided to live in average neighborhood in just a detached two-storey building rather than some snooty rich people's neighborhood .

Not to mention, I've got some pretty awesome neighbors.

First, there's Miss Myoga—a sweet 50-year-old granny who runs Myoga Bake, the best bakery in the neighborhood. And when I say the best, I mean THE best. Her brownies are legendary. She's also my first stop every morning on my way to work—can't start the day without them.

As I passed by the bakery, I waved at Miss Myoga. She'd greet me like I was family, as she always did.

"Miss Myoga! Long time, no see," I called out, flashing a grin.

She looked up, wiping her hands on her apron, a smile creasing her slightly wrinkled face. "Kaito, heading to set I see."

"Yep, finishing up the Christmas sequel," I said, eyeing the counter. The smell of fresh baked goods was too tempting. "Are those brownies I smell?"

She nodded, chuckling softly. I didn't need to ask twice. I grabbed a piece, taking a bite as I waved goodbye.

Then there's Mr. Andrews, a tall, middle-aged, dark-skinned guy who owns the local manga shop. If you're looking for a good manga to get lost in for the weekend, he's your guy. And his son Isaac? Well, he's my gaming and manga buddy. We get along pretty damn well.

Of course, we can't forget the town's basketball team. They're always out there, playing on the court like they practically live there. I swear, who plays basketball on a Friday night? But hey, their words, not mine.

And there's the sweet mailman, who's basically the neighborhood's entertainment, always getting chased by the neighbor's dogs.

And that's just scratching the surface. There's a whole bunch of great people around here, but I don't have time to list them all. Just know, they rock.

But the one thing I'm sure of is that I've always been the star of the show. And I'm not kidding. Whether it's being the lead or behind the camera, it's my world, they just live in it.
