Chapter 12 - Contingency

Luvre Village was a small settlement.

The village had no local hospital, only having a market, a tavern, a brothel, and an administrative building which also served as Chief Rarluk's office.

The administrative building was a prominent wooden building at the center of the village. It was where delegates from other villages enter, and it was also where tax in Luvre Village was paid to the chief.

That morning, leaving his home in an angry mood, Chief Rarluk stormed to his office in the same mood but here, he had effective bootlickers who were ready to go to any means to please him.

Noting that he was in a bad mood, the greedy workers just like the chief in the administrative building managed to distract him, offering dubious solutions for him to forget about his anger.

And the first solution that they brought was of course the brothel.

In a world of cultivators, the importance of a brothel could not be overstated. After fighting deadly battles against not just other humans, but against monsters in the wild, cultivators are often times left with pent up energy that they needed to release.

Most of this energy was usually released in the brothels, and it was why brothels were so popular.

Brutus just missed the chief. As soon as he left, Chief Rarluk and his bootlickers who were ever ready to fawn over him introduced him to the brightest star of the brothel, a mature woman with a nice round ass and voluptuous breasts.

Once Chief Rarluk laid his eyes on her, he chuckled like a fool as he was led deeper into the pleasure rooms where he let up all his pent-up frustration on her.

The chief was violent and abusive during the activity but the star was used to such treatment, she was patient. So long he paid, no one cared.

After releasing some of his pent-up emotions, more sober now, Chief Rarluk was finally ready to face the problems facing his village but his bootlickers didn't let him, luring him away with a quote.

"In this life, there is time for everything".

"There is a time to eat, a time to live, a time to die, a time to have sex, and a time to drink and enjoy. Now is the time to drink and enjoy".

They led him to the tavern in the village where Chief Rarluk got drunk.

Cultivators had higher vitality and resistance to vices than mortals. For the chief to get drunk, it meant he took the alcohol in truly dizzying quantities.

By afternoon, drunk already, Chief Rarluk forgot completely about the call he got in the morning including its implications to his village as he slept.

While all that happened, immediately after leaving the brothel, Brutus rode the horse to the market with the money he got from his first work in the brothel.

Cultivators naturally pay for the stars of brothels when they visit, and since Brutus was an even bigger star, Leah was forced to pay a silver coin for his service.

Just like their deal entailed, Brutus got 50 bronze coins from the transaction.

At this moment, he took all 50 bronze coins with him to the market where he splurged half of the money to get ingredients that he wrote down on a list.

In a small-time village like Luvre Village, 50 bronze coins was a lot of money but Brutus managed to spend half of it on the market.

It was not because he got a lot of things, rather, it was because some of the things he bought were incredibly rare while the others were common.

Among the common ingredients, there was a potent aphrodisiac.

Brutus already started his contingency plan.

By the time he was done in the market, it was already getting late and yet he didn't go home yet, leaving Luvre Village with the horse and riding into the mountains where he remembered an alchemist to live.

Everything was still the same as in his future life, he met the alchemist in a cave in the mountain.

The alchemist was a cultivator, and not just any cultivator.

Qi Gathering Realm cultivators could not become alchemists. To handle the stringent requirements of alchemy, a cultivator first needed the qi-body reinforcement of the Foundation Realm, the 2nd realm of cultivation.

Yes, the alchemist that Brutus met was a Foundation Realm cultivator.

The old man was pleasantly surprised. "It's been more than 5 decades since anyone visited me here, young man, how did you find me?"

Brutus bowed respectfully. "I just know a lot of things".

"Fair enough," the old man nodded, standing up from the cross-legged meditation spot he had been for years. "What do you want?"

"I need a potion to be forged".

"I have a blueprint for it, including detailed step by step process on how to forge the potion".

The old man threw him a second glance. "Not only do you know my hiding place, you want a potion forged, and you even have the blueprint for it, what an unusual request".

The old man took the blueprint written on a paper from the young man and looking through it, his eyes widened. "T-this…!"

He stared at Brutus with sharp eyes. "Young man, where did you get this blueprint? What sect are you from?"

"This blueprint, I-it's revolutionary!"

Brutus smiled modestly, not answering. "Can you forge it?"

"Yes, I can, I think". The old man looked at him again. "Do you know what the name of the potion is called?"

Brutus smiled again. "I hear it's called the Ultimate Pleasure Potion".

"What an unusual name".

"Unusual indeed". Brutus agreed. 'That's because I only give unusual names to the potions I create, it's what make them unique'.

Yes, Brutus created the Ultimate Pleasure Potion himself from the future.

While the old man went to work, Brutus walked back to the entrance of the cave, looking as the sun slowly disappeared in the west.

He clenched his fists. 'Can I make it in time?'
