Chapter 14 - The shadow wyrm's defeat

Ethan took a deep breath as the system's warning echoed in his mind. He had just defeated the two goblin scouts and was preparing for the next phase of his journey. But now, with a sudden surge of red dots on his map, the situation was about to change.

[ Monsters detected, Host please be cautious ]

Ethan's gaze sharpened as the map flickered with more red dots, rapidly multiplying. His senses were heightened as the creatures closed in, and his pulse quickened. Just as he was about to move, a massive shadow descended from above, blocking out the sunlight.

The creature, a towering monstrosity, landed with a force that shook the ground beneath Ethan's feet. Dark, scale-like armor covered its form, glinting with a sinister, metallic sheen. Its glowing red eyes pierced the darkness, and jagged teeth filled its wide, gaping maw. Twisted horns curled from its head, while its spiked wings pulsed with fiery veins, casting a menacing shadow that seemed to consume everything around it.

A feeling of dread washed over Ethan as the beast's immense presence filled the air.

He immediately activated his Appraisal Skill.

Ethan's mind raced. The Shadow Wyrm, a creature of immense power, appeared far beyond what he had faced before. Its strength was overwhelming, and it radiated an aura of dominance.

Just as he was about to make his move, the wyrm lunged with terrifying speed, its jagged teeth snapping at him. Ethan dodged the attack with quick reflexes, narrowly escaping the deadly maw. His thoughts were a whirlwind of strategy and calculation as he considered his next move.

[ Host, you have survived for the time being until I find its weakness. ]

Ethan clenched his sword tightly, trying to keep his focus while the wyrm circled him in the air. How can I defeat something like this? he thought. In that moment, his mind flashed to a tactic he had seen used in mobile games: fight-and-run. It was a strategy where the player would attack, retreat, and repeat, especially when the enemy was of a much higher level.

With his mind made up, Ethan acted. He stomped the ground, summoning Earth Spikes to rise from the earth beneath him, creating barriers and delays to buy himself time.

[ Earth Spike Activated ]

The spikes erupted from the ground, forcing the wyrm to land and momentarily stall its assault. But Ethan knew this wouldn't be enough. He needed to find the creature's weakness.

As he continued to dodge the wyrm's attacks, an idea began to form. Light magic. He remembered the strike that had slightly wounded the wyrm's right leg. Could it be the key to victory?

[ Ding... ]

[ Weakness detection successful. ]

[ Weakness: Vulnerable to light magic, holy magic, ray of sunlight. Wyrm has a deep wound on its left wing, preventing long-term flight. ]

Ethan's heart skipped a beat as the system provided this crucial information. It seemed the wyrm wasn't invincible after all.

[ Detected: Host has used basic job skill "Skill Creation." Permanent unlocking of skill "Skill Creation" due to host knowledge. ]

Ethan's eyes widened. I've unlocked a new ability, he realized.

He quickly focused his thoughts and commanded the system. "Activate skill 'Skill Creation' to create a magic that can teleport."

[ Detecting Host command... Activating "Skill Creation"... ]

[ Skill Creation successful. ]

[ Host, you have acquired a new skill: Teleport ]

Teleport — as long as Ethan had a clear image of his destination, he could teleport there instantly. The mana required was high, but it was the perfect tool to outmaneuver the wyrm.

Without hesitation, Ethan focused on the left wing of the wyrm, where the deep wound had been inflicted. He teleported directly to the creature's side and drew his sword. He activated Light Blade, a lesser version of Holy Blade, and struck the wound.

[ Health - 800 ]

The wyrm roared in pain, thrashing violently as it tried to shake him off. But Ethan was already moving again, teleporting to the ground to avoid its retaliatory strike.

As the wyrm ascended into the sky, preparing to strike, Ethan's mind worked furiously. I need something stronger, something that will pierce its defenses.

Then it hit him. What if I combine special magic with light magic? It was risky, but the wyrm's strength demanded something extraordinary.

He called upon the Skill Creation once again.

[ Skill created successfully. ]

[ Host, you have learned a new skill: "Light's Special Strike" ]

Light's Special Strike — a devastating attack that could target an enemy anywhere, no matter the distance, as long as Ethan had a clear image of the target. It would be a risky move, consuming a significant amount of mana, but it could be the key to ending this fight.

[ Skill - Light's Special Strike ]

The attack only works when the host has a clear image of the target.

Mana required: 10,000 per use (for a single target; mana will increase if multiple targets are involved).

Ethan stood tall, his determination resolute. He concentrated, visualizing the wyrm in the sky. With the image clear in his mind, he summoned all his energy into the spell.

"Light's Special Strike!"

A beam of concentrated light shot from his sword, streaking through the sky with immense speed. The wyrm, sensing the attack too late, tried to maneuver but couldn't escape in time.

The beam collided with the creature's chest, piercing its armor and sending shockwaves through its body. The wyrm screeched in agony as its health plummeted.

[ Health - 3000 ]

The creature was weakened, but not defeated. Its rage was palpable as it attempted to retaliate, but Ethan wasn't about to give it another chance.

"Light's Special Strike!" He shouted once again, this time focusing his magic on the wyrm's heart.

The beam of light tore through the air, and with a final roar, the Shadow Wyrm crumbled to the ground, defeated.

As the creature fell, Ethan sighed in relief, his body drained from the immense use of mana. He approached the wyrm's carcass, his expression solemn yet satisfied.

With the creature defeated, the path ahead was clear. Ethan had conquered a mighty foe, and his journey continued
