Konohagakure Village.
Hokage Office.
Mirai stood in the Hokage's office, gazing at Yakushi Nono's hopeful expression. With a slight shake of his head, he said calmly, "Nono, the village is dealing with some very important matters right now. I'm afraid we'll have to postpone our meal for a little while."
Hearing this, Nono's shoulders drooped slightly, and she forced a small smile.
"I understand, Mirai-sama. I won't disturb you further."
With that, she turned and left the room.
Once she was gone, Mirai set the scroll he'd been holding aside and chuckled to himself.
Those words he just said? All excuses.
Sure, Kushina was about to give birth, but finding the time for a meal wouldn't have been a problem. However, if one wants to maintain control in a relationship, they can't always cater to the other's every whim.
A balance of 70% warmth and 30% detachment works far better than tirelessly playing the doting puppy.
As for why Yakushi Nono invited him to dine with her…
Ever since their discussion about funding for the orphanage, Mirai had tasked Uchiha Tetsuka with overseeing the matter. Through a series of deliberately imposed difficulties, Tetsuka had pushed Nono into seeking Mirai's help directly.
Through their interactions, Mirai had keenly observed a subtle shift in Nono's attitude toward him.
It wouldn't be long now. Soon enough, Nono would fully fall into his grasp.
Once that happened, securing Yakushi Kabuto's loyalty would no longer be an issue.
After a moment, Uchiha Shisui entered the room, bowing respectfully before reporting, "Mirai-sama, Uzumaki Kushina's birthing location has been finalized. The medical team responsible for her delivery is in place, and the expected time is tonight."
"Do you not think we should assign additional personnel for her protection?"
Mirai responded coolly, "There's no need. Focus on maintaining the village's security. I will personally oversee Kushina's safety."
Shisui nodded. "Understood, Mirai-sama. There's one more thing—Sarutobi Biwako has requested to personally assist in Kushina's delivery."
"Let her."
"Yes, sir!"
After Shisui left, Mirai closed his eyes, sinking into meditation.
Everything was ready.
Obito, you'd better not disappoint me.
...
Amegakure Village.
Inside a dimly lit cave.
Uchiha Obito, wearing his tiger-patterned mask, suddenly opened his eyes. Gazing at Zetsu emerging from the ground, he asked coldly, "Do you have news?"
White Zetsu nodded. "Based on our surveillance, Uzumaki Kushina will give birth tonight. That'll be the moment when her control over the Nine-Tails is at its weakest."
Black Zetsu continued, "If timed perfectly, you can easily extract the Nine-Tails from her."
"But keep in mind, Konoha's security will be extremely tight tonight. Taking action won't be easy," Black Zetsu cautioned.
Obito sneered, "With my eyes, nothing can stand in my way."
White Zetsu's curiosity piqued. "Obito, isn't the Nine-Tails Jinchūriki your sensei's wife? Are you really okay attacking her?"
For a moment, Obito paused. Then, with a grim tone, he replied, "In the world I'll create, everyone will live their dreams. I'm merely sparing her from this painful reality a little earlier."
White Zetsu chuckled, "Then she should thank you, shouldn't she?"
Obito shot him a sharp glare, prompting Black Zetsu to quickly interject, "Obito, are you confident you can handle Uchiha Mirai?"
"Uchiha Mirai?" Obito smirked disdainfully. "He's just a fool who doesn't understand anything. I stopped taking him seriously a long time ago."
After all, Obito was a man who had uncovered the ultimate truth—everything about the shinobi world, the Sage of Six Paths, and the secrets of the Rinnegan.
Compared to him, what could Mirai possibly know? The man likely didn't even fully grasp the powers of the Mangekyō Sharingan.
Black Zetsu, visibly exasperated, chose to hold his tongue.
White Zetsu, however, seized the moment. "Obito, since we worked so hard for this intel, don't you think we deserve a little reward?"
Obito nodded. "These details are barely useful to me, but fine. What do you want?"
White Zetsu's expression turned oddly eager. "Could you… relieve yourself in front of me? I think watching that might help me understand the nature of human bodily functions better."
Before he could finish, Obito turned on his heel and strode out of the cave.
"This is your last request. Next time you say something that stupid, I'll kill you."
White Zetsu sighed, dejected. "I was just curious, that's all."
Obito's voice echoed coldly, "In the world of Infinite Tsukuyomi, I'll make sure you experience diarrhea every day."
...
Nightfall.
In a secluded cabin on the outskirts of Konoha, Uzumaki Kushina gripped Namikaze Minato's hand tightly. Her pale face was slick with sweat as waves of pain made her gasp softly.
An elderly woman with a bun, Sarutobi Biwako, entered the room with a team of medical personnel.
"Minato, Kushina's about to give birth. You need to wait outside."
Minato gently patted Kushina's hand. "I'll be right outside, waiting for you."
Kushina managed a weak smile. "Don't worry. Kurama promised not to cause any trouble. Everything will be fine."
Minato nodded and bowed respectfully to Biwako. "Lady Biwako, I'll leave Kushina in your care."
As Minato stepped out, far away in the Hokage Office, Uchiha Mirai's eyes snapped open. Through his sensory abilities, he detected a distinct spatial fluctuation.
Obito is here.
