Chapter 229 - Chapter 229: Who's Taking Advantage of Whom?

After listening to Mei Terumi's explanation, Mirai didn't respond immediately. Instead, he asked curiously,

"If Yagura Karatachi is causing chaos in the village, there must be plenty of opposition, right?"

"Why not unite and overthrow Yagura's rule?"

Mei's expression darkened as she replied in a low voice, "Many have tried to assassinate Yagura, but without exception, all of them failed."

"Of all those who attempted, only Zabuza managed to escape Kirigakure alive."

Hearing Zabuza's name, a flicker of interest crossed Mirai's mind.

This man, who supposedly "punched Indra, kicked the Seventh Hokage, and single-handedly manipulated the Sixth Hokage," had already defected from Kirigakure. How amusing.

Seeing that Uchiha Mirai remained unfazed, Mei continued with a hint of bitterness in her tone, "Yagura is too powerful. I've had no choice but to seek an alternative."

"If you agree to help me overthrow Yagura's rule, I promise to lead Kirigakure to submit to you, just as Sunagakure and Kumogakure have."

Uchiha Mirai rubbed his chin, a thoughtful expression appearing on his face.

"I see..."

He didn't outright reject her.

After all, even if Mei hadn't approached him, he had already planned to visit Kirigakure.

With that in mind, Mirai spoke, "I accept your terms. I'll handle Yagura."

Hearing his agreement, Mei let out a long sigh of relief, a bright smile spreading across her face.

With Mirai's strength, there was no doubt he could topple Yagura's regime. Even if it meant Kirigakure falling under his control, so be it. Given the current state of the village, things couldn't possibly get worse.

The office fell into silence.

After a moment, Mirai noticed Mei still standing there motionless. Perplexed, he asked,

"Is there something else?"

Mei fidgeted slightly, lowering her head as she spoke hesitantly, "I've heard that when the weak seek the aid of the strong, they often must pay a price."

"No matter how unreasonable the strong's demands may be, the weak must comply to achieve their goals..."

Mirai raised an eyebrow. "What exactly are you trying to say?"

Blushing, Mei stammered, "Would you... take advantage of this and force me to offer myself as your woman to serve you?"

Mirai's mouth twitched. For a moment, he was at a loss for words.

He had always been the one to initiate in such matters. Mei's boldness was entirely new to him.

Seeing his silence, Mei stepped closer, her gaze resolute.

"Mirai-kun, why aren't you saying anything?"

Taking a deep breath, Mirai looked at Mei—her stunning figure and flawless beauty undeniable. Without further thought, he pulled her into his arms.

"Do you realize what you're doing, woman?"

Mei's eyes were misty, her lips slightly parted. "Don't speak. Kiss me."

Mirai looked at Mei, now draped lazily against him, her charm undeniable. Despite her alluring appearance, he couldn't shake the feeling that somehow, he was the one being taken advantage of.

Mei wrapped her arms around his neck, her tone teasing. "So, Mirai, when do we leave?"

"Anytime," he replied nonchalantly.

"Then let's go now," Mei said immediately.

For her, every day they delayed meant another day Kirigakure remained mired in darkness. Countless comrades could lose their lives if they waited any longer. Acting sooner was better.

Mirai nodded. "Alright, let's go."

With that, he activated the Flying Thunder God Technique, disappearing with Mei from the spot.

...

Land of Water, Kirigakure, Mizukage's Office

Yagura Karatachi sat expressionlessly at his desk, his empty gaze fixed forward. Nearby, a masked ninja perched on the windowsill, clad in a black cloak with red clouds. The swirling pattern on his mask emitted a faint crimson glow as he stared out the window in silence.

The room was quiet, save for their breathing, until a figure emerged from the ground. A half-human, half-plant being with a peculiar pitcher-plant-shaped head.

Yagura remained motionless, while the masked ninja didn't even glance back.

"Zetsu, what news do you have?"

Black Zetsu's raspy voice answered, "I've found the meeting place for the rebels. They'll gather tonight to discuss plans to overthrow the Fourth Mizukage."

Obito snorted coldly. "Then have Yagura take his forces and eliminate them all."

Black Zetsu hesitated. "Aren't you being too aggressive? Are you really planning to abandon Kirigakure as a base?"

Obito's voice turned cold. "What other choice do we have?"

"With Uchiha Mirai's strength, he'll inevitably set his sights on Kirigakure. When that happens, Yagura's manipulation will be exposed."

"Better to leave Kirigakure in ruins. That way, even if Mirai conquers it, all he'll inherit is a mess."

Ever since the Three Kage Summit, Obito had been wary of Uchiha Mirai's power. Not only had Mirai awakened the Rinnegan, but his bizarre abilities allowed him to effortlessly eliminate strong opponents like Mifune. He had even defeated the Fourth Raikage A and Killer B in a two-on-one battle, reducing Kumogakure to rubble.

It was only a matter of time before Mirai arrived in Kirigakure.

Obito's decision was clear—fighting Mirai head-on was out of the question for now.

Black Zetsu nodded thoughtfully. "Understood."

Obito pondered briefly before asking, "What about Nagato?"

"The Akatsuki has already recruited four Kage-level members, but Nagato's body struggles to handle the Rinnegan's power. Each use takes a toll on his life force."

Obito's tone grew firm. "The plan has changed, Zetsu. We'll need Nagato to fight Uchiha Mirai. Until then, he must remain intact."

Zetsu's voice carried a note of confusion. "What's your plan?"

"Have Nagato undergo an infusion of Hashirama's cells. It'll mitigate the Rinnegan's strain and enhance his power."

"Won't that make Nagato harder to control?"

"It doesn't matter," Obito said coldly. "The priority is eliminating Mirai. Everything else can wait."

Black Zetsu nodded in agreement. "I'll make the arrangements."

For Black Zetsu, Mirai's existence was inconsequential. As long as the Ten-Tails could be revived, nothing else mattered. After all, Uchiha Madara, Obito, Nagato—they were all just pawns on its chessboard. Only Black Zetsu held the true secrets of the world.
