The Raikage's Office in Kumogakure.
Yugito pushed open the door and walked inside, her expression tinged with nervousness.
"Lord Mirai, I'm here."
Mirai didn't immediately respond, instead giving her a scrutinizing look.
She was the complete opposite of Samui.
Yugito's frame was more slender, her features carrying a sense of refined boldness. Her willow-like eyebrows arched gracefully, her lips were vibrant red, and her tea-colored hair was tied into a braid that draped down her back.
Perhaps due to the Two-Tails sealed within her, her aura carried a faint, otherworldly allure.
Feeling the weight of Mirai's gaze, Yugito unconsciously lowered her head.
The sensation of being observed so intensely was far from comfortable, but since Mirai wasn't speaking, she dared not utter a word either.
After a long moment, Mirai finally withdrew his gaze and asked, "Did Samui brief you?"
Hearing this, Yugito immediately replied in a steady tone, "For the peace of the shinobi world and your plan, I'm willing to cooperate fully."
Mirai nodded. "Then come closer. I'll begin extracting the Two-Tails from your body."
Obediently, Yugito stepped forward and stood beside him.
Seeing her calm demeanor, Mirai couldn't help but chuckle.
"You're quite docile, aren't you? From the way you carried yourself earlier, I thought you might have more of an imperious, older-sister type of personality."
Yugito silently rolled her eyes in her mind.
An imperious demeanor? That depended entirely on the situation, didn't it?
In front of someone who could destroy a village single-handedly, how could she possibly act high and mighty?
"Get ready. We'll start now."
At Mirai's words, Yugito nodded nervously.
Although Samui had reassured her that Mirai possessed the means to bring her back to life, the thought of dying due to the extraction of her tailed beast still filled her with dread.
Soon, she felt Mirai place a hand on her abdomen.
A surge of overwhelming ocular power radiated from him, coursing into her body. Yugito could distinctly feel her strength rapidly draining away, along with her life force.
As time passed, her consciousness grew increasingly hazy, until eventually, she sank into complete darkness.
...
In the Mindscape
Gyūki, the Eight-Tails, watched as Matatabi, the Two-Tails, was sealed into the space alongside him. With a cheerful laugh, he greeted her.
"Matatabi, you've been sealed by Uchiha too, huh? Congratulations!"
Hearing Gyūki's hearty laughter, Matatabi bared her fangs and glared at him.
"What nonsense are you spouting, you fool?" she snapped.
"Being sealed by Mirai is supposed to be a good thing? Don't forget, you were pretty close to Killer B. Do you realize that your extraction means he's definitely dead by now?"
Gyūki scratched his head awkwardly, his massive horns swaying slightly.
"B was a good partner, I agree. But there wasn't much I could do about it."
"Besides, being sealed into him really isn't that bad. Don't believe me? Ask Isobu or Kurama."
Matatabi shifted her gaze toward the Three-Tails and Nine-Tails, who both nodded in agreement.
"Matatabi," Isobu said calmly, "consider yourself fortunate. Being sealed is a privilege."
The Two-Tails' jaw dropped in disbelief.
"You two… Are you seriously this far gone? You've been reduced to praising the human who's imprisoned you? How pathetic can you get?"
Matatabi had been sealed since the time of the First Raikage. Every jinchūriki she'd encountered was either unreasonably cautious around her or had peculiar quirks that made them unbearable.
Just when she'd finally bonded with a compatible host, she'd been forcibly extracted.
And now she was sealed inside an Uchiha—a clan notorious for their overwhelming power. She doubted she'd even be allowed to stretch her claws under the sun again.
"Listen up!" Matatabi growled. "What if we all attack the seal together? We might just escape from Mirai's body!"
Before she could finish, Kurama interjected bluntly, "Matatabi, calm down."
"I've already assessed the situation. Mirai is the one the Sage of Six Paths prophesied—a person capable of bridging harmony between tailed beasts and humans."
"What?!" Matatabi was stunned.
She shuddered as memories of Mirai effortlessly subduing Gyūki flashed in her mind.
"That guy… is the Sage's chosen one?"
Kurama sighed and continued, "No amount of defiance will change the outcome. Stretch out your paw."
Still skeptical, Matatabi hesitated but eventually extended a claw, touching it to Kurama's.
In an instant, memories flooded her mind—Kurama basking in sunlight, lounging on cliffs, strolling nonchalantly through bustling streets, sampling various human delicacies…
Most astonishingly, humans treated Kurama with respect, bowing deeply and addressing him as
"Lord Kurama."
When the influx of images finally ceased, Matatabi stared at Kurama, wide-eyed.
"These… these are real?"
Kurama raised his head proudly.
"Memories don't lie. And I have no reason to deceive you."
Isobu added, "Mirai's immense power ensures he doesn't fear our rebellion. That's why he grants us a degree of freedom. Furthermore, he's aware of the Ten-Tails' existence and possesses the Rinnegan. He intends to revive the Ten-Tails while preserving our consciousness and chakra separately. We won't die even if the Ten-Tails is resurrected."
Matatabi froze in disbelief.
So, Mirai's goal in sealing the tailed beasts wasn't just for the peace of the shinobi world, but to revive the Ten-Tails?
How could he know about such things?!
Gyūki, noticing her stunned expression, tried to console her.
"Matatabi, it's not as bad as you think. Mirai has the power to suppress us effortlessly, yet he still treats us as allies. What more could we ask for? Besides, it won't take him long to gather all nine of us."
"Once the Ten-Tails is revived, we'll finally be free…"
Before Gyūki could finish, Mirai's figure materialized within the mindscape.
Just as Kurama, Isobu, and Gyūki prepared to greet him, Matatabi darted toward him with astonishing speed.
"Mirai, it's an honor to meet you! If you ever need my power, just say the word. I'll do everything I can to assist you!"
Her sudden display of obsequiousness left the others utterly dumbfounded.
Wait…
What just happened? How did she change her tune so fast?!
