Chereads / Sweet Mom, Rich Dad: Eight Adorable Children / Chapter 14 - He Alone Was Enough

Chapter 14 - He Alone Was Enough

The driver was speechless.

He had been with Henry for many years and knew that Henry was always cold, aloof, and dignified.

This was the first time he had appeared so sheepish.

The driver was suddenly frightened.

...

Charlotte had managed to escape.

She couldn't even take the bus anymore.

Upon seeing a taxi in front of her, Charlotte immediately waved at the driver.

When she got in the vehicle, Charlotte realized that there was already a passenger in the car.

Unexpectedly, it was Caroline, the wife of the deceased Jack!

Charlotte froze.

She didn't want to sit in the same car as this woman. Just as she was about to tell the driver to stop, Caroline covered her mouth.

Charlotte saw gold stars in front of her and fainted.

...

In the Johnson family's house...

Yolanda was feeding Octavia dinner.

Out of all of the eight children, only Octavia could not take care of herself and still needed someone to feed her.

Yolanda sighed heavily.

"Ah, fate!"

Octavia's cheeks bulged. "Grandma, your life is not miserable at all. You have us eight babies."

Primo said, "We are your cute grandchildren, Grandma."

Yolanda shook her head repeatedly.

After seeing Lily's boyfriend in her hometown that day, Yolanda had become absentminded.

He was young and handsome. He exceeded her expectations.

Yolanda couldn't figure it out.

Where had Lily found such an excellent boyfriend?

He was good-looking and obedient, and he bought her everything she wanted.

Besides, Lily was a stark contrast to her daughter.

Ah.

Yolanda was distressed.

After worrying for a long time, Yolanda suddenly realized that something was wrong.

Huh?

Why hadn't Charlotte come back yet?

Yolanda called Charlotte.

No one answered the phone.

At the same time, Quinto was asking about the results of Quarto's investigation.

Quinto was good at observing people's expressions.

As soon as Quarto came home today, Quinto had noticed that Quarto had an especially cheerful expression on his face.

He knew that Quarto must have found the murderer and could completely prove their mom's innocence.

Sure enough, when he asked, Quarto said exactly what he had expected.

However, when Quarto explained that the arrest warrant for the murderer hadn't been issued yet, but the murderer likely knew that she was a suspect, Quinto's expression changed.

He said, "Oh no, Mom is in danger!"

...

In an abandoned old factory...

Charlotte was tied to a pillar.

Someone poured a bucket of cold water over her.

Charlotte finally woke up.

When she opened her eyes, she saw Caroline, who wore a sinister expression on her face.

Charlotte looked around and understood that she had been kidnapped.

She tried to suppress her fear. "Let me go," she said. "Your husband's death had nothing to do with me."

Caroline sneered at her.

She took out a phone, turned on the camera, and pointed it at Charlotte. "Admit that you killed Jack right now."

"I won't admit it! I didn't kill your husband!" Charlotte said.

Caroline took out a sharp knife and approached Charlotte with it. "If you don't admit it, then I will scratch your face!"

She slowly moved the knife down over Charlotte's face and rested it over Charlotte's heart. "If you still won't admit it, then I will stab you in the heart!"

"Your husband's death had nothing to do with me!" Charlotte felt the tip of the knife against her chest and shivered.

"I don't care whether or not it had anything to do with you!" Caroline said frantically.

"Admit that you killed him in this recording!"

"What is the use in me admitting it when I didn't kill him in the first place?" Charlotte asked. "You can't find the real murderer, so you want to use me as a scapegoat."

Charlotte suddenly froze.

She stared at Caroline in disbelief and said, "You are the one who killed Jack."

...

"No!" Caroline immediately stopped recording.

"Yes!" Charlotte stared at her. "You want me to confess my guilt so that you can exonerate yourself!"

It suddenly occurred to her that she had stolen the fruit knife she had in her hand.

She had stolen it on the way to the hotel.

Only Caroline knew her schedule.

Caroline still didn't admit it.

"Are you going to admit it or not?" she asked imperiously. "If you won't admit it, I will stab you! I will say that you killed my husband and then tried to kill me! I was acting in self-defense!"

"You are crazy!"

Charlotte and Caroline had no grievances at all. She didn't understand why Caroline wanted to frame her so much.

"Are you going to admit it or not?" Caroline raised her voice, and at the same time, she pushed the knife towards Charlotte's heart.

Even through her clothes, Charlotte felt intense pain.

"Are you going to admit it or not?" Caroline asked again, a cruel, threatening expression in her eyes. "I will count to three. If you don't admit it, I will kill you!"

"One, two..."

"Let her go!" A low, intense voice suddenly resounded through the room.

A man strode in.

Wearing a black trench coat, he exuded an air of strength.

Charlotte was speechless.

Henry?

Why had he come here?

Caroline's expression changed when she saw that Henry had come.

She looked at Charlotte, then at Henry, and her heart suddenly skipped a beat.

She was the one who had killed Jack.

She had wanted to frame Charlotte, but she hadn't succeeded.

Recently, she had also noticed that someone was investigating her.

Caroline had become anxious.

She needed a scapegoat to take the fall for her.

Caroline had thought of Charlotte again.

According to the laws of the Imperial City, as long as there was a confession, the decision usually wouldn't be reversed.

So she had tried to force Charlotte to confess to her guilt through the video.

Unexpectedly, Henry had suddenly appeared.

"Mr. Stevens, I..."

Caroline still wanted to plead innocence, but she saw Henry take out a pistol.

He pointed the black muzzle pointed straight at Caroline.

Caroline understood that there was no way she could make excuses.

When she had threatened Charlotte just now, Henry had probably heard all of it.

Caroline suddenly said ruthlessly, "You must immediately arrange a flight for me, prepare tens of millions of dollars in cash, and send me abroad. Otherwise, I will kill her!"

Preparing a flight and tens of millions of dollars in cash was an easy matter for Henry.

Since Henry had been willing to personally come to this abandoned factory to save Charlotte, presumably, she held a high position in his heart.

Caroline was certain that Henry would agree.

However, Henry smiled coldly. "Do you think this woman is worth that much?"

Caroline hesitated.

She couldn't back down now. She said, "Since she's not worth it, then I will kill her!"

After that, the knife almost pierced Charlotte's heart!

At that moment, Henry said indifferently, "On second thought, I think she's worth it."Caroline immediately stopped.

Charlotte's heart was about to leap out of her chest.

Was he kidding?

Was Henry still joking with her?

Caroline also breathed a sigh of relief.

She stared at the pistol in Henry's hand again.

A pistol was much more effective than the knife she was holding.

"Throw your pistol to me too," Caroline said boldly. "Otherwise, I will kill her!"

Charlotte thought, "It's over!"

Henry couldn't give Caroline the pistol.

After all, if the pistol was in Caroline's hands, it would be impossible for Henry to overpower her.

...

Who knew whether or not this lunatic would shoot Henry?

Henry was a smart person, so he would never knowingly put himself in danger.

Just when Charlotte thought Henry would refuse, his thin lips parted slightly, and he uttered the word, "Okay."

Ecstasy flashed in Caroline's eyes. Charlotte was shocked.

Despite her own dangerous situation, she shouted, "President Stevens, don't give her the pistol. This woman is crazy. She killed her husband and kidnapped me to try to frame me. She is capable of doing anything!"

Upon seeing Charlotte's anxious appearance, Henry narrowed his eyes slightly.

He felt a flash of joy in his heart.

He hadn't come here to rescue her in vain!

After receiving the call in the afternoon, he had suspected that Charlotte might be in danger.

So, he had asked the driver to send her off.

He hadn't known that this woman would be so insensibly ungrateful and even smear his face with ice cream.

He didn't want to care about this stupid woman anymore.

But afterward, for some unexplainable reason, he had still asked the driver to follow her. The car's tire had gone flat halfway there, wasting their valuable time.

When he had arrived, Charlotte had already been abducted and taken to the abandoned factory.

He was afraid that if he brought too many people, Caroline would panic and hurt Charlotte, so he had come here alone.

He alone was enough just to deal with a murderous woman.

Henry bent over elegantly and tossed the pistol in his hand.

Charlotte's eyes widened.

After the pistol landed at Caroline's side, Caroline had to stoop to pick it up.

At this critical moment, Henry took out another pistol.

Boom!

A gunshot cracked through the room.

The bullet hit Caroline in the arm, and Caroline rolled on the ground, howling.

Henry walked over and scooped Charlotte up.

She was shaking violently.

After he untied the rope, her legs softened and she couldn't help but rush towards Henry.

Their bodies made intimate contact.

Henry felt his heart grow soft.

He felt like there were fluffy clouds in his chest.

He narrowed his eyes, stretched out his hand to squeeze her, and exclaimed, "How soft."

Charlotte was not amused.

She was still rejoicing over having narrowly escaped from the brink of death. She hadn't expected Henry to make such a move.

Charlotte felt flabbergasted and at a loss for words.

What kind of brain did this dignified President of the Stevens Corporation have?

Just now, he had actually...

Charlotte was speechless.

She left Henry's arms and stood up straight. A little embarrassed, she changed the subject. "You still had another gun on you?"

"What if I hadn't?" Henry raised his eyebrows.

Charlotte still hadn't recovered from the shock. "I thought you might die."

She could tell that Caroline was a lunatic.

After Henry had thrown his gun, a scene had played out in Charlotte's mind.

After Caroline got the pistol, she would immediately shoot Henry, shoot Charlotte, and flee.

Henry snorted. "Do you think I'm as stupid as you?"

Charlotte didn't respond.

Just as she was about to speak, an idea flashed in her mind.

She was the one who worried too much.

Henry had probably expected it long before it had happened.

When he had first taken out the gun, he had done so to induce Caroline to ask him for the gun.

Then, when Caroline was picking up the gun, he had shot her in the arm.

If Caroline hadn't picked up the gun, Henry might have injured her by shooting her directly.

Charlotte couldn't help but admire him.

Henry's aloof appearance had been part of his plan.

To think that she had thought Henry was a man with nothing but perverted thoughtsin his mind. Now, it seemed that the President of the dignified Stevens Corporation had a couple of tricks up his sleeve.

He lived up to his reputation as a dignified President.

Just as Charlotte was thinking this, she noticed that her wrist hurt.
