Chapter 1 - Tales of Telys (1)

My dream began on an island, one of bountiful fruit trees, many herds of animal, and a handful of people.

I wake in my dream as a man named Telys, a farmer with no family, but enough wealth to keep himself alive.

His days consisted of the same routine; wake up, tend to the crops, head to town to browse the wares, and then return home to lounge around.

Though I may have been seeing from Telys' eyes, I had no control over the boring life I had been living for a few days.

Seeing as Telys' life was not getting anymore interesting I almost woke up, but just before I could a horn was blown in the distance.

Telys' quickly ran out of his house to examine the surroundings, and all anyone could see were ships off the coast of the island, approaching at rapid speeds.

The island's occupants were frightened, the blower of the horn rallied the people and began handing out weapons.

"People of Mayos, we need to protect our island. Any person that picks up a weapon and fights will be rewarded handsomely. If you survive that is."

This comment caused some to run away, but those with lives boring like Telys stayed and picked up the assorted spears and sword.

Telys picked up a short-sword and shield, took a few practice swings and began to shake. The reality of the situation was too much for people that lived in peace for all their lives.

As the boats docked at the seaside, the small group of fighters readied their weapons. Then suddenly out of the boats came running men with swords and clubs.

Many villagers dropped their weapons and began to run, leaving a small group of 10 to hold off this incoming force of 50.

People with bows began shooting, but lack of experience hindered their accuracy, only 1 of 5 arrows hit their targets.

The archers quickly dropped their bows and ran off. Now only 3 swordsmen and 2 spearmen remained. The swordmen other than Telys were trained soldiers that quickly rushed in to confront these invaders.

But the numbers proved too great, and they quickly fell. The spearmen tried to use their range but were quickly taken down by the enemies with longswords.

And so, remained Telys. The enemies easily surrounded him and were about to take his life when time seemed to stand still.

Telys glanced around and noticed the soldiers seemed to be frozen, confused he took this opportunity to escape his encirclement.

But before he could, a voice boomed from behind him, "Where do you think you're going coward?"

Telys stopped in his tracks and began to turn around, there stood a middle-aged man with a short beard.

"You're not going to let these ruffians take your home are you?" the man said, pointing a small hammer at Telys.

Upon observing this hammer, Telys quickly pieced together the identity of this man.

Hephaestus.
