Chapter 97 - The Empty Classroom

Because of his muddied mind, Kai found it hard to focus for the rest of his class. Hido noticed of course, but didn't say much. The most he said was that next class, he expected Kai to do better. Then, without another word he sent Kai off.

He already knew that the next class was going to be boring–it was beast-taming, a subject he knew much about. And Cassie was already dead.

There would be nothing in the class to stop his thoughts from drifting to Hido's defense. No sound to block the student's screams, to stop his mind from traveling between defending Hido's ideals and thinking they were fundamentally wrong.

As he walked through the halls, he tried to devise ways to keep the nasty feelings off of his mind. Maybe he could imagine teaching the teacher, who already said a few things about beasts that was wrong.

When he finally reached the classroom, his heart stopped. Maybe he was just early...

No, he was almost late.
