Kai blinked, sure he was being tricked. Hido basically just said... he wanted Kai to accuse him? He even presented the question in such a way that offered no interpretation besides an accusation.
Hido gave him one last stern look, the message clear: ask, or hold your peace.
Taking one last look around at the myriad of beasts, Kai steeled himself and asked, "Why did you let those students die? E- especially after you offered them protection?"
Hido gently rubbed his hand on the Moss Dragon's underside for a second before saying, "I fulfilled my promise. I said that if an SSS-Rank beast was too threatening, I'd kill it."
"The short answer is, if you couldn't survive the SS-Rank beasts, you didn't deserve to be a student at this academy."
"The only choices you offer are death or success?"
Hido stopped giving the Moss Dragon its massage to turn to Kai, who had accidentally sprouted a little fire along his fingertips.
