As the very branch they stood on began shaking, Kai grabbed Amyla, ready to jump at a moment's notice. The branch started turning as the Ent stretched its legs–soon it would be entirely vertical.
If Natalie didn't want to join her friends, she'd have to find a way to climb up herself. Looking up, Kai saw many of the branches receding into the Ent's body. Within minutes its entire body would be completely smooth.
That left 2 options–go up to its shoulder or find a way to the ground.
Bracing himself, he looked down to see if the ground was an option. What he saw left his face completely white. The branches down there were rapidly receding. There were maybe 10 rows of branches left before they'd fall a long way to the ground.
Returning his attention upward, he jumped and the next second after he heard a thunderous clap below him. The branch he had been standing on was no more.
