December 9, 2004, Beacon Hills Outskirts: Hale House
"Like I said, it's not going to happen," Talia frowned, looking at Deaton, who stood before her with a furrowed brow.
"I just need you to listen to me. We need to find the boy," Deaton urged, a serious expression on his face as he sought to make her understand the situation.
"I'm listening, but like I said, Deaton, it's not going to happen. Have you seen the bodies on the floor?! How many of our pack members died?!" Talia shouted, her anger evident.
"And you want me to what? Follow you to look for a kid just because you think a myth is real?" Talia asked, disappointment clear in her eyes as she shook her head. "Even if you are my pack's emissary, I wouldn't follow your advice this time."
"I need you to stay here, with me. Help me with this pack, please. Everyone is falling apart after what just happened!" Talia's voice cracked as she looked at Deaton with teary eyes, her anger toward the ninjas mixing with her sadness about Deaton leaving.
"You don't even know where you can find them!"
"But I need to try. It's impossible that they'll just disappear without leaving any trace."
Deaton met Talia's gaze, sighed, and turned toward the door. As his hand reached for the handle, Talia's voice called after him.
"I thought you'd be the one here with me when I needed you the most," Talia said, her voice laced with heartbreak.
Deaton closed his eyes for a moment, not responding, as he opened the door. "This is much bigger than you and me," he said as he walked away, passing Laura, who was heading toward her mother's room.
"Deaton! My brother is awake!" Laura exclaimed, a happy smile breaking her face that was filled with dry tears. As she can't help but share some good news after everything that happened yesterday.
"That's good. Your mother is waiting for you," Deaton replied, smiling at Laura before proceeding downstairs.
"Hey, wait, are you already leaving?" Laura asked in surprise. She had thought Deaton would stay after witnessing the deaths of so many from their pack, including Satomi's.
"I still have something to do. You all already know how to remove wolfsbane from your wounds!" Deaton called back as he jogged down the stairs.
Laura looked at Deaton, confusion on her face, before turning and walking into Talia's room. "Hey, Mom, why did you let him go? We ne—" Laura stopped, her mouth agape as she saw her mother crying and wiping away her tears.
"What is it?" Talia asked, turning around after wiping her eyes.
Laura pointed at Talia and then toward the door. "Did you just cry? What happened to you both?" she asked in shock.
Although she sensed Deaton's feelings for her mother, she was surprised to see her mother in tears over him.
"It's nothing now. Why are you here? Did something happen to your brother?" Talia asked, standing up from her chair and walking toward Laura, shifting the focus of the conversation.
Laura recalled what she had come for. "Derek has woken up!"
"Come on then, let's not keep him waiting." Talia took Laura's arm and pulled her out of the room.

Meanwhile, outside the house, Satomi held her japamala as she watched her beta moving the dead bodies of their pack members onto a pickup truck for a proper burial.
"That's all of them. What about Talia's pack members?" Demarco asked, his voice tinged with sadness and bitterness.
"I'll ask her what she wants to do," Satomi said, a sorrowful look in her eyes as she gazed at the lifeless bodies. Their pack had been hit the hardest in the attack, losing nine of their young members, bringing their total to nine, including Satomi. Talia's pack had dwindled from fourteen to seven.
Satomi noticed the Hale house door opening as Deaton stepped out with a serious expression. "Are you leaving already?" Satomi asked worriedly. They might need Deaton if additional problems arise.
"I'm sorry, but I need to leave. I already checked on your betas; they don't have any serious issues, just need more rest to heal their wounds," Deaton said, looking at Satomi. "I'm sorry for your loss, but I really need to go." He hurried back to his clinic to pack his things.
Satomi watched him leave with a bitter expression. Just then, her phone rang. Glancing at the caller ID, her eyes narrowed as she recognized the person she needed to speak with.
Sighing, Satomi answered the phone and put it to her ear, hearing Noshiko's voice.
[Hey, what happened? I thought your pack and Talia Hale's already defended Beacon Hills against the other supernatural creatures.]
Satomi couldn't help tearing up at that. They had been celebrating their victory when this attack occurred. Noticing her distress, Demarco placed a comforting hand on her shoulder to console his alpha.
"We were celebrating when a group of ninjas suddenly attacked," Satomi responded, holding back tears as she wiped one from her eye.
"That's why I'm calling to see if you have any information about that group," Satomi said. Satomi's eyes glowed red at the thought of the ninjas, her anger surging. She needed information from Noshiko, who was the oldest being she knew and hailed from Japan, just like her. But Satomi was just a normal person before she had been bitten by an alpha in America.
[Ninjas?...] Noshiko murmured from the other end, contemplating Satomi's situation.
[I hate to ask this, but can you describe the ninjas you encountered?] Noshiko's tone was careful, not wanting to provoke her friend.
With understanding, Satomi took a deep breath, closing her eyes to recall the events of the previous night. "They appeared almost silently, blending into the shadows, killing with lethal techniques. If they hadn't used the wrong wolfsbane, we'd all be dead." Satomi's eyes glowed with a quiet intensity, though she couldn't help feeling anger swell as she recounted the events from that night. Claws began to extend from her fingers.
As she spoke, all of Satomi's betas' pupils shifted to gold, aware of her escalating emotions, as well their anger for the ninjas.
[They blend with shadows...] Noshiko fell silent, her mind racing. She thought of a particular ninja clan, puzzled as to why Satomi and the others were still alive.
[Did you receive an envelope with black sand?...] Noshiko asked tentatively, hoping that it wasn't Satomi who had received it.
Satomi frowned, recalling a moment when Laura had given Talia an envelope with black sand just before the lights went out.
"Talia opened an envelope with black sand inside just before we were attacked. Why is it connected to this?" Satomi rubbed her temples, confused by how an envelope could relate to ninjas.
[And is she dead?...] Noshiko asked, taking a deep breath and waiting for Satomi's response.
"No, the ninjas backed out when they saw we had the advantage in numbers. They tried to take her daughter," Satomi replied, shaking her head at Noshiko's words.
[Are the Ozunu Clan taking supernatural creatures' children now?...] Noshiko exhaled slowly.
"Ozunu Clan? Is that who attacked us?" Satomi interjects, hearing Noshiko whispering through the phone.
[Listen to me, just take your pack and leave. They won't come after you or your group.] Noshiko replied with seriousness in her tone, emphasizing the danger of Satomi's situation.
"Why would you say that when they failed their mission to kill us?" Satomi's brow furrowed as she looked at the bodies of her dead betas.
On the other end of the phone, Noshiko sighed, hearing the weight of Satomi's words.
[The Ozunu Clan is a group of ninjas that carries out assassinations for money. Typically, they don't target supernatural creatures.] Noshiko's voice was tense as she mentioned the name of the clan.
[When they send someone to kill you, they first send black sand to warn their target that they're coming after them. They won't stop until that target is dead.]
Satomi's eyes widened as she understood what Noshiko was trying to convey.
[Satomi, they won't stop until Talia dies. Your pack is just collateral damage because you're with her. Now get out of there, and I'll contact a friend of mine for more information.] Noshiko said, hurriedly cutting off the call.
Satomi's expression turned complicated as she put the phone down gently before turning to look at the dead bodies with a heavy heart.
"So they died for nothing? Died because of other people?!" one of Satomi's betas sputtered, his enhanced hearing having caught the conversation.
"Don't say that. We are comrades of the Hale pack; they didn't die for nothing," Demarco retorted, his voice bitter as he glared at the other beta.
"Oh, really? They died just because Talia Hale was involved? If one of us were the target, would they die for us, too?!" the beta challenged, his eyes glowing with anger as he stepped in front of Demarco.
Satomi looked at the dead bodies, hearing their argument, which was escalating toward a fight.
"Enough!" Satomi commanded, her irises glowing red, halting the betas as she walked toward one of the deceased. She placed a Japamala in the dead person's hand and gently closed it.
As she turned to face the two betas, she said, "Leave, and I'll stay here." She started toward the Hale House.
"Satomi, you can't be serious! Let's leave this forsaken place together," the beta exclaimed, looking at her in shock.
Satomi paused. "Maybe it wasn't supposed to be our fight, but when they killed one of us, it became our fight."
"Demarco, lead them back. I trust you to keep them from causing trouble. I won't let any of you die," Satomi ordered, resuming her walk toward the Hale house.
Demarco frowned, wanting to stay, but as a beta, he had to follow his alpha. He looked at Reed. "You heard the lady. Now, let's go back."
Reed frowned at Demarco before glancing at Satomi's back as he turned to walk to the car. "We'll return to give them a proper burial, but we're coming back. We're not letting you stay here alone," Reed said, getting into the car while Demarco shook his head with a thin smile before taking the passenger seat. The other cars started up as the other betas in Satomi's pack followed them.
Satomi, who hadn't yet entered the house, heard her betas' words. She couldn't help but smile as she made her way inside, heading toward the stairs leading to the second floor and Cora's room, where Talia was.
Before Satomi could knock on the door, Talia sensed her presence outside. "Come in."
Satomi calmly opened the door. Upon entering, she saw the Hale family looking at her with a mixture of emotions. Talia whispered, "Thank you," toward Satomi.
Satomi simply nodded and smiled as she looked at Derek, who had woken up. "Are you okay, kid?" she asked with concern.
"It will take more than ninja bad guys to kill me," Derek grinned, showing his teeth and trying to flex his muscles to make his little sister laugh. He quickly forgot about his wounds still healing. "Ahhh…" Derek gasped, clutching his stomach as his sisters laughed at his antics.
Talia shook her head at Derek while Satomi smiled at their bond before turning her attention back to Talia. "Shall we talk?" she asked, gesturing toward the door.
Talia nodded, patting her youngest daughter on the head. "You need to look after your brother and don't let him move, okay?" she said, standing up and walking toward the door.
"Aw, aw, awoooo," Cora playfully howled at Talia, agreeing to her instructions.
Talia smiled lovingly as she closed the door and looked at Satomi. Satomi opened her arms, and Talia embraced her tightly.
"Thank you for not leaving," Talia whispered to Satomi, her voice filled with emotion. Although they hadn't heard what Satomi was discussing with Noshiko on the phone, they could still sense the tension from Satomi's betas. Talia wouldn't even blame Satomi or get angry if Satomi's pack decided to leave.
"It's fine. Now, do you want to know who attacked us?" Satomi asked, releasing Talia as she wiped the tears from her face.
Talia nodded and led Satomi toward her room, where she sat on one of her stools while Satomi stood in front of her.
"The Ozunu Clan is a ninja clan that specializes in assassination. Noshiko mentioned that the black sand was meant to warn us that they'll be coming after you," Satomi relayed the information she had gathered from Noshiko.
"Is that so? Then they won't stop coming after me, will they?" Talia said, closing her eyes in contemplation, trying to formulate a plan.
Satomi shook her head. "No, but we can be ready for them this time, unlike last night," she said, her resolve strengthening at the thought of facing the Ozunu Clan again.
"But last night, they made a mistake with the wolfsbane. What if they're prepared this time?" Talia asked, opening her eyes, her expression complicated with worry.
Satomi's brow furrowed in contemplation as she processed the details regarding the Ozunu Clan.
"Noshiko mentioned they're not meant to target supernatural beings. Once she gathers more intel, we'll be prepared to take action." Turning her gaze toward Talia, Satomi offered an encouraging nod, determined to ignite a fire of resolve within her.
"We need to stand firm, Talia. Together, we can face whatever comes our way."
Talia searched Satomi's eyes deeply, seeking reassurance and strength. After a moment of intense contemplation, she let out a steadying sigh and closed her own, solidifying her determination.
"I've made my choice," she declared softly. "I'll leave Beacon Hills with my pack."
