The forest behind them gave way to rocky terrain, and the air grew colder as the canopy thinned. Taryn and Lucien moved carefully along the narrow path that clung to the cliffside, the drop below obscured by mist. Loose gravel crunched under their boots, occasionally sliding down the steep slope, sending faint echoes into the abyss.
Taryn glanced down and grimaced. "We're exposed up here," she said, her voice low. "If anyone's watching, they'll see us long before we see them."
Lucien, trailing just behind her, glanced toward the horizon. "Think of it as nature's obstacle course," he said lightly, though his eyes didn't linger on the ravine. "Keeps things interesting."
"Interesting isn't what I'm aiming for," Taryn muttered, stepping carefully over a jagged outcrop.
