Lucas! What the heck was he doing?
He was not supposed to broadcast her marital status to anyone. She almost thought he was about to spill the beans about their relationship. Luckily, he did not.
More than that, he acted like they were in a real relationship, behaving like a jealous husband as he fumed when their client kissed her hand.
Was he staking a claim on her?
It somehow appeared like he was marking his territory. But why would he? They were not together, at least not in the true sense.
That is just ridiculous, Andy.
She stared at herself in the bathroom mirror as she retouched her makeup and fixed her clothes.
"How could he be jealous when he had never shown interest in her?" She asked her reflection, wondering what madness possessed her to consider that.
She guessed she was assuming too much. He must have only said that because Mr. Williamson was too forward in his advances. After all, this was a business meeting.
As she learned more about her boss, she realized he never liked to mix business with pleasure.
What about Chase? What did she think about him?
She thought he was a complete package. He was tall, handsome, charming, and incredibly rich. She guessed his only flaw was his wandering eyes.
Researching their client's lifestyle, hobbies, and interests was one of her jobs. Luckily, it was easy to discover things about their new client since he seemed to be a regular topic in the gossip columns.
Based on the tabloid news, he was an adrenaline junky who loved adventures and the thrill of a game. He was also constantly seen with different women, a well-known Casanova.
In other words, he is bad news.
Dinner might be over, but the night was far from it. They headed to the club to get some drinks and check on the place. Although all she wanted was to return to her room, she knew it would be nice to see the club in action.
She supposed it would be a good way of getting a clear grasp of the club's activities. Eventually, it would help conceptualize the new designs.
"What would you like to drink?" Lucas asked as soon as they settled on their reserved table.
So far, their host was nowhere in sight. But she could already see the club's appeal as her eyes roamed the room.
However, it was outdated. It truly needed a complete revamp to catch up with the latest trends. But that was her job. It was why she was here.
"I will have a martini." She thought a glass would not hurt. But she had no intention of drinking more.
Immediately, her husband ordered their drinks as they waited for the guest of honor. In the meantime, she observed the place, watching the regular patrons of the establishment.
"Remember, we are here to do a job and not party." He suddenly whispered near her ears as if he was talking to a child.
She was not a party girl. She had nothing against those people who enjoyed painting the town red. She had also gone out clubbing with her friends for girl's nights out.
However, she preferred a good book or a movie at home.
"Of course, I..." But before she could say her piece, they were interrupted.
"Hey, look who the cat dragged in." Chase showed up with a stunning woman in his arms. "I accidentally bumped into Naomie. When I mentioned you were here, she insisted on joining us. I hope it is ok."
The woman looked like she just stepped out of a magazine, with a typical supermodel figure. She commanded the attention of everyone as if she walked on a runway fashion show.
"Hi there. If I did not see you with my two eyes, I wouldn't believe Chase here, Lucas." But the woman automatically let go of Chase's arms as her husband stood to greet her.
"You never liked going on vacation. So, what brings you to the island?" The unknown woman immediately wrapped her arms around her husband's neck before passionately kissing him on the lips.
Damn! They looked great together.
But the nerve of her husband to let her kiss him in front of her. Was their relationship one-sided? She could not look at another man, but he could flirt openly with another woman.
"Naomie, I thought you were still in Europe." Lucas finally pushed her away.
In her opinion, his action was too late. He already kissed her back. What did she expect? He was probably a womanizer, just like her ex. After all, they were friends.
Birds of the same feather flocked together.
"I miss you! So, I am back." The woman kept her hands on his shoulders as she stared into his eyes.
"Do you mind if I steal him away for a second?" She turned to Chase, completely ignoring that she existed. Then, she whispered something in her husband's ears.
"Come with me. I want you to meet someone." She pulled him with her, but he did not seem reluctant to leave with her.
She could not help but watch their interaction on the side. It seemed she was not Chase's date but someone with a past with her husband.
How she clung to her husband indicated a more intimate relationship than just being friends. They looked like a lovely couple.
They were perfect together.
She could not help but wonder why Lucas married her when he could have a woman like her. Suddenly, she felt inadequate to be his wife. She was nothing compared to her.
"Now that she is back, I can almost hear wedding bells," Chase mumbled loudly as he drank his whiskey.
Then, he pushed a fresh cocktail drink in her hand as they watched her husband and Naomie on the other side of the room.
"Why is that?" She asked, wondering about the relationship between the two.
Truthfully, she had no prior knowledge of her husband's past relationship. He had always been private about his affairs. Even the tabloids rarely mentioned his name.
Besides, she had not been interested in his life since she lost her infatuation with him. She never heard much about his life or relationships when he moved out of the mansion.
"Oh! You probably didn't know, but she was his fiancée. But they broke up before they could set a date." Chance informed her. "Lucas was completely heartbroken when she left."
She had never heard about her husband being engaged before. Did Tristan know about it? What about Daddy Frankie? Why did nobody mention that to her?
