"Where am I?" Ash muttered under his breath.
Surrounded by darkness, the only thing he could sense was the warmth of his body and the faint beats of his heart. Soon, the transparent holographic screen popped before his eyes.

"Wh-what in the seventh hell?!" Ash was shocked inwardly. "Beast Taming System? Wait, Heavenly Phoenix? Am I dreaming?!"
He wished everything was just a dream. But then, he began to feel suffocated the longer he wondered about it. Ash violently shakes his body around, punching his sides and banging his head forward.
At last, the first ray of light seeped through when Ash cracked the egg shell. He became more and more eager to break free. A few moments later, Ash finally emerged from the egg, he was completely bewildered when he found out that his whole body was covered with vibrant red and yellow feathers.
By the time his eyes got used to the light, he found himself nestled in the middle of a huge crater atop the mountain range.
Soon after, the Beast Taming System chimed again.

Ash was puzzled at first when he read the numbers. Luckily, the Beast Taming System was equipped with an AI which gave him a brief explanation.

After that, Ash clicked his avatar on the left hand side of the screen.
One meter in height and about 1.8 meter long from head to tail. His wingspan was about two and a half meters wide. In his previous home world, Ash could be mistaken as an adult eagle. In this world, however, he was so small compared to those Immortal Beasts who roamed the realm.
He became more convinced even further that he had been reborn as a bird when he saw a yellowish beak between his eyesight.
Still puzzled, Ash checked every part of his body thoroughly. A pair of small wings, two legs with four talons each, and a tail with short, undeveloped feathers.
"No shit. I have been reborn as a bird! And as a Heavenly Phoenix no less!" Ash wanted to shout aloud but what responded from his beak was a series of chirping noises.
His excitement soon died down when he remembered that Glowpaw was taken by the Demon King.
"Sigh, Glowpaw must be so sad without me. Don't worry, Glowpaw, I will find my way back to you. I promise!"
Suddenly, Ash felt the insatiable hunger as if there's a bottomless pit in his stomach.
Guided by his primal instinct and keen senses, Ash opted to climb up his nest. When reached the tip, he was dumbfounded by the sheer size of the Immortal Beast Realm.
Thousands upon thousands of mountain peaks scattered across the land for hundreds of thousands of miles and beyond. Dozens if not hundreds of flying beasts swerving between the clouds. The fact that those flying Beasts appeared bigger in Ash's eyes speaks volume of their real size. The scale of the Immortal Beast Realm was beyond Ash's comprehension.
"Yep. There's no way I could survive those beasts in this state." He muttered dejectedly. "If only my wings were bigger and stronger, I might be able to glide down the slope and reach the forest below. Sigh, if only the benevolent God would be kind enough to drop me some food from the sky…"
As if his prayer was answered, a big chunk of meat just landed from above, and was followed by a high pitched scream that of an eagle.
A moment later, the giant eagle perched on the tip of the nest, looking at the small, red fluffy bird curiously.
"Eerrrm… Hello?" Ash said. Still trembling due to the sheer size of the eagle.
The giant eagle spooked by the time Ash spoke to it through telepathy, spreading its wings to the fullest while its mouth was wide open.
However, Ash mistook the giant eagle's sudden change as hostility, cowering in fear and crying.
"No, no, no! Please, don't eat me! I have nothing but skin and bones!"
Collecting its senses, the giant eagle gradually calmed down. It speaks in human's tongue instead.
"I knew that you were a weird one! I have been watching you for millennia, and I am glad that my instinct was right to bring you up here!"
