Chapter 229 - Chapter 229: The Prelude to a Counterattack

Gwen looked at Alan unhappily and said, "How can you not be worried at all? If this continues, your reputation will be completely ruined. Do you even know what people are saying about you?"

Alan smiled, realizing that Gwen was upset on his behalf. However, he had his own plan, one he couldn't share with Gwen just yet.

"What's there to worry about with such trivial matters?"

Gwen huffed angrily. "How can you not worry? The public outside is almost entirely accusing you of murdering people without permission and demanding that you be arrested. Why don't you explain yourself? If you do, I'll stand by you!"

Alan sighed lightly. He didn't feel the need to explain because even this wave of public opinion was part of his silent consent. Gwen, however, didn't know that and only thought the Emperor was being unfairly maligned.

Alan pushed open the window and looked outside. "Let them say whatever they want. I can't go around silencing everyone, but you absolutely must not defend me publicly."

"Why not?" Gwen tilted her head, full of confusion.

Alan said with a heartfelt tone, "Because if any superhero steps forward to defend me, the public will target all superheroes as a group. That would make what I'm hoping for much more complicated."

Gwen looked at Alan's mysterious expression. Although she believed he had some sort of plan, she couldn't help but worry.

"What are you hoping for?"

Alan suddenly nudged Gwen toward the window, signaling for her to leave. Gwen gracefully climbed onto the windowsill, pressing herself tightly against the wall.

"Just go back and wait to watch the show."

Alan spoke with such confidence that Gwen's worries eased. She waved goodbye and disappeared out the window.

Alan returned to the room and sat on the couch, summoning Red Queen.

"Master."

"Mm. You can begin what I instructed you to do."

"Understood." Red Queen replied softly and then disappeared again. Simultaneously, numerous documents began flooding into pre-set email inboxes across the internet.

It was all being controlled by Red Queen, progressing step-by-step according to Alan's plan.

At the Daily Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson sat in his office, reading a report handed over by his secretary. Ever since the smear campaign against the Emperor had been published, their subscription numbers had increased by fifty percent. With exclusive, firsthand information, the Daily Bugle's sales had soared, leaving other newspapers far behind.

Jameson laughed twice. Today's sales were also extremely high; the papers had nearly sold out right after release. If things continued this way, the Daily Bugle would dominate New York!

Jameson was practically ready to jump for joy, growing even more confident in his approach.

"What superheroes? What masked vigilantes? I can smear them with a single word, and with another, the public will despise them!"

"I, J. Jonah Jameson, am the true genius!"

He danced around his office, fantasizing about a future where countless superheroes would beg him for mercy.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to him, something else was happening.

Aside from the Daily Bugle, every other newspaper and media outlet simultaneously received a special email.

The email, sent by Red Queen, clearly detailed various crimes committed by certain low-level officials in the United States, including bribery, malicious competition, and extortion.

Each piece of evidence was as solid as if carved in stone, leaving those newspapers both excited and anxious.
